Tire Opinion

     I had been wanting to buy some new tires and had been looking at either Falken 452's or the Toyo T1R's.  I frequently troll the G35driver forums and had been getting bad reviews on the Toyo's, which is what I had been leaning toward. Do any of you have any experience on either tire or have other recommendations?  I was looking for a good performance street tire as I only drive 4 miles to work everyday so wear is not a huge issue.  Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Eric, welcome to VMSC!
You may want to consider the Falken Azenis RT615's or have a dedicated race set of wheels/tires with some DOT R-Compound tires, like Hankook Ventus.

  Yea, I would love to have a spare set of R tires, but I just can't justify that cost right now with my rather long wish list of mods I want to do this year.  I did look into the Azenis, but unfortunately it doesn't look like they make them in a 19", or at least I couldn't find them anywhere.  One of our forum sponsors on G35driver quoted me a good price on the 452's so I'll probably end up going with those in the next month or so I guess.

So far I've run the Rt615 205/50/15, Hankook Rs2 225/45/1 and Toyo RA-1 225/50/15(not really street/race but close). This year I will be tring the Toyo T1R Since im moving to STX. (until Tr1-r comes in size i want 225/45/15).  I beleive you stated in another tread your running in SM class which is pretty much open when it comes to tires. There for a Good R compound is best bet, But if you want to make them also your daily driver. I suggest in order of best on the Track.  Toyo RA-1 (wont last long on street but is ok to get you to track and back), Next the RT615 these have proven to be about .5-1.00 faster on the track in the dry than the Hankooks. While the Hankooks are better in the wet than the RT615. These are my opinions

     Actually, I should be running FS. The car is completely stock... I lie... I added some JDM Clear Corners a couple weeks ago!    I do have a K&N drop-in filter and a Z-tube (intake) ordered and due here on Friday, but I probably wont switch the tube in until next week as it's my understanding the intake mod would knock me out of stock.  The z-tube boasts a whopping +1 to -4 rwhp gain/loss based on dynos posted to our G forums, but the more aggressive tone is what I want it for. I can't wait to get it in!

You might want to check out the Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R.  They stock two sizes, 245/35/19 and 275/30/19 at tirerack.com.  They were one of the top performing street tires at last years nationals.

     Yea Rick, those are great tires but at $245 per + shipping it's just out of my league.    I can get the Falken 452's (F-245/35/19 & R-255/40/19) for $738 shipped. Though, just thinking ahead a bit. I bet the Bridgestones would look great wrapped around the Volk GTM's I had planned to put on the minivan...

Yea, well... I couldn't just leave it sitting in the box all alone so I slapped it in tonight. From my reading it looks as though I would step up to the STX with my 3.5L, 4 seater coupe. Could someone confirm this for me?

What's the displacement cut-off for STX?  I'm too lazy to look, but I think it's below 3 liters.

The limit in STX is 5.1 liters. STS is 3.1 liters.

     I finaly found what I think will be a great tire for me in a 19".  I just went with the Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R. Can't wait to get these on the track!  Thanks for the suggestions!
