Alright everyone, street class rule question. I am looking at running a oil catch can on the veloster to prevent it from regurgitating oil into the intake. I know this is legal as long as its not modifying the pcv system. Anyway after running my system, which blocks off a line going into the intake from the valve cover I have noticed BOV noise. The same you would hear if I removed to recirculation tube from the intake(no performance is gain from this just chuckles). If this is the case would it be modifying the intake, and make it street class illegal? Thanks again.

The catch can on my corvette catches the oil before it enters the intake but doesn't block the path. The oil it catches is pretty nasty looking when I remember to change it.

So I've been doing alot of reading about these catch cans and I'm not so sure if I should put on the Vette. I'm just saying that I've taken the front part of the intake off and I don't really see a build up of oil, My plugs look good, etc. etc.
Question I keep asking myself is if these catch cans are that helpful why aren't they OEM?
just wondering, catch can would look cool but do they really work?

In all engines, even those with good compression and no signs of "burning oil", some measure of compressed gas leaks past the piston rings (i.e. "blow-by").  The more time an engine is spent at high RPM, the more likely it is to have measurable blow-by. This blow-by contains some oil vapor that eventually condenses in the intake manifold and can gum things up.  That is one reason throttle bodies need to occasionally be cleaned. Anyway, a catch can is a simple devise that provides a condensation location. So, the oil catch can collects the oil mist and condenses the vapors while allowing clean gases to pass to the intake.

Yea I watched a video explaining pretty much exactly what you said. So i guess I'm in the market for a good catch can.

 As Mark said the throttle body and intake ports on the intake manifold side that mate to the engine were icky when I did the clutch which spawned me to get one. Its not like oil its more of a smeary pasty type of gummy bear film that you wouldn't want to lick.

I have teched many cars with catch cans, some were pretty sketchy.  If you should add one please secure it with something more substantial than zip ties.

Will a ole Marine web belt do?
They are pretty damn strong! I'd bet it can hold 250lbs

This is what I ended up doing. A line from the top of valve cover to the catch can, that is bolted to the strut tower, and back into the intake.  Ran it past BRR SCCA board and we are good. As mentioned above for some time now I have noticed some blow by in the intake after the races. After a little research I found it to be extremely common problem with DIS engines and the turbo didn't help my case. So last week when I had the bumper off to change the headlight bulbs( this is a sad thing now with new cars) I pulled the intercooler, piping, and tubing and cleaned. So hopefully this will help keep it that way.

I recently installed one on the Vette and it looks great but to empty it without spilling anything will be a challenge.

Did you get the Elite engineering one ? The one I have just unscrews from the bottom like a thermos, never spilled a drop. You don't want to let it get to full I supposed then there would be an issue.

Yes I did get the elite. So for my car you can install it two different ways. One is were most of the catch can is underneath the valvecover plastic shroud (this is the way I have mine) so when its like this you can unscrew the bottom but its so close to the frame that you have to tip the bottom over to get it clear to come out. The other way to install it requires a extension bolt. using the bolt pushes the catch can forward so it does not have to sit under the valve cover shroud. Elite is sending me that extension bolt, should be here tomorrow.

Not the easiest to empty. It has a single large bolt on the bottom. The original plan was to put a drain valve and a tube running down the frame. But the way its mounted now I can remove the whole thing with one bolt and drain it with the hoses connected.
