 The Re71r is proven and unchanged for 2017

 The Rival-s is the other "Top Dog" changes have been made in 255 and smaller to improve turn in and transitional response. I'm still not sure exactly how to tell if your getting the new tires. Here is an explanation From brgoodrichracing :

The Hankook RS4 are showing on the tire rack website as available on 3-17-17 not much is known but they appear to be lightweight and have a very wide tread width. The tread depth also starts at 8.9/32 which is pretty deep maybe to meet the 200 treadwear standard ? Most likely to be shaved award.

I got a set of RE71R's for the Vette, Last two seasons I ran the re71's up front and the RS3's on the rear
the RS3's lost alot of grip about mid season last year so I'm hoping the re71's all the way around will be make a big difference. I also mounted the tires on slightly wider rims than my stock rims, Everything fits nice and neatly in the stock wheel wells.
I also got a set of RS3's (clear out price!) that I mounted on my stock rims for track day use.

Hoping to be competitive and having fun this season!

 Looks like the updated Rival-s v 1.5 are on tire rack website. Some have been changed from W to V speed ratings to adjust for higher loads.

Does anyone know the date the tire construction changed ?

Too bad there's really nothing in 275/40/17 and 315/35/17 other than the NT01s, NT555Rs, or NT555 G2s.

 That bothered me about my 17 inch ccw's couldn't find appropriate 17 inch street tires in wide sizes for the vette almost like it was in style to run gigantic front brakes and 1 inch taller wheels in the rear.

The NT-01's aren't legal in street, or CAM. I think their tw is 100. The NT-05's are legal, but suck. I couldn't find anything that would fit the Camaro's wheels properly.

I don't think this is really the year to be stepping away from the proven 71rs just yet. Tire manufactures are catching on to the 200 tread wear market. Fallen has come up with a "new" AZENIS RT615K tire, nexen came out of nowhere with the N'fera SUR4, and Maxxis has been heavily advertising its VICTRA VR-1. Tire rack has even started to pick up brands it never did like falken. Give it another year and I am sure you will see more side by side comparison as people experiment to see what really shaves time.

Stick with the RE-71R unless the R-S4's somehow has caught up. I'll wait for the Tire Rack tests.

The sidewall stiffness and spring rate can make a big difference on how a particular tire handles on a particular car, too.  Stiffly sprung lightweight cars with lots of camber (STS) tend to do better with softer sidewalls while heavy soft sprung camber-challenged cars tend to prefer as stiff a sidewall as we can get.  Then you get into tire compound and heat range and it becomes a big mess.

IMHO, RE-71R is still tops across the line, unless you have a stiff light car in which case RivalS 1.5 may be the tire to get.  Optimal RE-71R temp is 120-130F, try not to exceed 160F [source: a Bridgestone engineer].

FYI, there's speculation the Falken RT615K+ is sharing the same tread compound with ZII*.  Their performance is very very similar.
