During the second heat of yesterday's event, the station nearest the trailer had 2 cones knocked over by the car prior to Bernard Cooley. Two of us ran to set the cones up, (they were in the cross over "wall" of cones), before the Fiat got that section, only to discover there were no boxes to indicate where they came from. Plenty of time to set them up had there been a spot marked for them, but Bernard had to be red flagged. We placed them where we THOUGHT they came from. Another cone was hit later and it, too had no box. Again, it was placed where our collective memories thought it came from. I marked the three cones after that heat, but remember, if you place a cone on the course, please mark it as well.

Thanks Bill. This was my responsibility and I'll be sure cones back check peoples work next time I OD. I remarked several during the event just due to the marking being too light and not easily being found.

Luckily I didn't see any cones out of place by heat 3 that effected times what so ever.

I'll take responsibility for that, I thought I had marked them all as I walked the course. I however did not mark the lay down/ wall cones, as it was my understanding they were for safety and clarity, not for penalties. I guess i should have had that clarified.

Bill has made a great point... One thing we (as a club) should consider doing is instruct the course workers that as they take their positions on the course, they should inspect all of the cones in their area to make sure they are where they are supposed to be, and in this case that they are marked.  At SCCA national events this is a regular practice and one that we could likely benefit from.

I always marked them all, including the pointers. If for no other reason than their orientation to the cone they're pointing to. Makes it so much much easier when you're trying to set cones quickly.
