On a similar classing note.

Is a 125cc kart eligible for JA? or is it KM?

It's not JA. The details are on the SCCA site under the rules. I'll verify it this evening.

125cc is KM.  That's what he ran at the last event.  I think it's just old info from the JA kart.

I'll be there Saturday to tech for practice.

We also have inspectors for Sunday. I'll pick up some more tech dots/stickers.

Engelbert, we should catch a few of Sundays cars at the practice on Saturday and I have Sunday covered at the moment. I'll get with James if we get into a bind.

I wasn't sure how to register Tyrel's kart; his type of kart is KA, but he's not old enough to run KA, so that's why I put it in as JA...which does allow some 2cycles.

Tony, if he is not old enough (15) to run KM then I don't see how he can run a 125 kart.  We have no leeway on classing underage drivers, we have to follow the rules.  I know he is competent to drive a 125 but unless he meets all rules requirements he needs to run a legal JA kart.  If you see something that I am missing let me know and we can get everything straight, I've been wrong before......

I don't think there's any problem there Gene. Tyrel's  just outgrown four cycles, there too slow. I figured this might be a problem with his age, he's kind of stuck in the middle. It sort of seems unfair that if you're capable of running a higher class kart but you can't participate because of your age. I guess I need to talk to Audie about getting a refund for the practice event and withdraw him from future events.

I will always respect the rules but I find it ironic that this age thing has to be a problem; we live in an age now where you can have teenagers running in formula 1...you would think the rules would catch up with that reality.

Just read the rules on KM class and did not find any age restrictions for the class unless the organization's insurance states otherwise.   Age restrictions for JA is 12 to 18 years old.  I also did not find the age restrictions in appendix G and H of the SCCA rule book.  I could not find the "age 15 minimum for KM" restriction in the SCCA rule book.  I know that is was stated in the rules in 2014 but not able to find the age restriction in the 2015 rule book.  Please correct me if I am wrong?

I can't get to the rules at the moment but it's either the last line of KM or near there.
(Just before the JA rules.)

I was wondering if my son could just run unclassified? At the end of the day, I just want him  to have fun.

You are correct Mr. Gene. I found the statement.

H. Driver
Minimum age requirement is 15 years old to participate in KM.

Tony, unfortunately it's a safety rule, not a classing rule. I don't see where we have any options other than following the rules. If the insurance has been set up for the"JA" legal kart then he could run that. I don't see anything else we can do.

+1 on what Gene said. The insurance doesn't cover it. How long until he is 15? He will be a contender ftd every event

He'll turn 15 in April of the 2017 season.

One thing I need to make clear is I totally understand and respect the rules of the organisation. I appreciate that fact that VMSC puts safety first...we look forward to many years of fun driving to come Smiley
