So what tires are all ya'll street tire folks looking at getting?

I have very limited choices so I'm looking at Hankooks Ventus R-S3 (version 2) on all 4 corners for this season.

season will be here before I know it, just need to scrub the cone marks off from last season get tires and change out the tranny fluid (already taken care of the engine fluids)

The Michelin Pilot Super Sports on my 997 are still fairly new,
so I guess I'm stuck with those for the season.

I was thinking about going back to RE-11s for the 996 - which did
need new tires - but of course that is a moot point now.

I'm looking at R-S3, ZII Star Specs, Rivals, and Toyo Proxes R1R's... the R1R's are reported to be released this season in a 200 UTQG. The problem I have is the Rival is the only one of these that make a tire large enough for the rear of my GT3.  So, I'm probably going to run the ZII or R-S3 up front and the Rival at the rear, each on 18" wheels.

I am flipping my tires before the season. I bet at least two more tire choices will be available sometime late spring (Rivals V2, 200tw Toyo, Huh?). I'm going to let the national people with money figure out what is the best before I buy anything.

Did something happen to the 996???

After losing to you, she sank into a depression and never recovered.
Sold her as a project car to someone who hopes to bring her back as a DD.

At the moment it looks like you will have to contend with the Pearl once again.
You have been warned!  Grin

I was also sold on the RS3's after so many drivers did well at the Nationals on them... But I've heard that the new ZII is a huge improvement over an already great tire so I'm not sure yet which tire I'll run.

I'm going with the RS3's. I ordered them today and they have the rear tires but said it will be about a month for the fronts. They had to be special ordered from the factory. Anyhow I wish I could wait. The rivals I have are legal but my rear tires are 180 treadwear and I just dont want to chance not getting tires before the season.

I can't say enough good things about the DZIIs. We ran them on the chump car and the merkur the last season. I thought they had the best grip and predictability of any street tire on the market and on top of that they last forever.

yea so my special order was for 275/35zr18
this is what I will run up front this year.
Got 305/30zr 19 on the rear.

the rears are on the way so I'm legal for street tire. I can use my rivals if I have too.

I'm really itching to get this season going. I think it's really going to be competitive.
got a white Porsche I'm gunning for. Oh wait, there is a black bmw, blue Porsche (boxter), silver Merkur, blue honda civic, red honda civic, any corvette, and I'm sure I'm missing somebody (maybe pearl!) and I think there is a crazy white miata nipping at my toes.

Going to be a great season!

Tire Rack has posted new test results comparing ZII Star Spec, Rivals, R-S3 v2, and AD08 R.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testDisplay.jsp?ttid=197

tl:dr Looks like the ZII SS is a good choice unless
it is a warm wet day,
they don't have your size,
you are a national level driver looking for contingency,
or waiting for rivals v2 and 200tw toyos...

Pretty good tire review... Although limited to a fairly heavy RWD sedan, it does present several significant observations. Most notably is the warm, wet performance of the R-S3... It clearly dominated that test. As for the others, the ZII SS seemed to be slightly faster and possibly more predictable but the difference between any of the tires are small enough to be artifacts of the test car, surface conditions, or other outside influences.

btw, Steve Fehr tells me that BFG is supposed to make an announcement about the new Rival S in early Feb. I suspect that others will follow around the same time frame. As I recall, any new tire has to be available in five sizes by March 1 to be SCCA approved

So my rear tires arrived today! So no worries I'm legal for stock with the treadwear. I can put 200 treadwear on all four corners (rivals up front from last year).

Cant wait till the first event for 2015. I'm going to try and do more tidewater events this year also.
So many goals! 2:15 on VIR, beat Ricardo, Marc, and Stu just to name a few.

Ahh you made my top 3!
I know I'm slow and all but in my little mind I think you should be honored to be mentioned.
Lots of fast guys and gals not mentioned that will bring the speed! and I'm sure I'm not even a worry to them!
where is my tire oil applicator! I let them borrow it.
