On that subject, check out the latest VMSC Poll.  At the moment the votes seem to be in favor of
shorter courses IF it means more runs.  (Only four votes so far, so keep watching.)

Of course I suspect most people would like longer courses AND more runs.... but that's not one of
the poll answers.

I bet answer depends on the venue. if I make a 30 second course at vmp it would only cover 1/4 of the lot.
polls if not asked correctly suck.

Whether a poll question is asked "correctly" depends on the purpose of the poll.

If you want to measure how people feel about all types of courses, then there are a lot of
factors that need to be taken into account in the questions.  (Probably more than we have
room for on our web page.)

If you are interested in a more specific topic, such as the tradeoff between course length vs.
number of chances to drive it, then the venue doesn't matter.  A 30 second course is a 30
second course no matter where it's set up.  And assuming a fixed amount of time for the heats,
you can fit more 30 second runs into an event than 60 second runs.

although I appreciate you view I think your wrong.
so for example at rir, if you have a 50-60 second course it gets way confusing to keep track of the cross over and what have you. Really not fun to drive in my humble opinion. So yea I can see a 30 to 40 second course being more fun.
Now go to vmp, we have a longer course but not cross overs, ect. ect. not confusing at all. to waste all that space for a 30 second course? come on be real. I feel it make all the difference in the world on the venue.

look at tidewater. difference between pungo and ACU 4. shoot if 30 second runs are so popular we dont need a ACU-4, national events would be 30 second. I can go on and on. The venue is the key factor for a course. Read up!

look you have your opinion and you run the web site and have your polls (i vote bannans every time) I have mine opinion and I dont have a poll but I would bet others would agree with me.
anyhow I'm the od for the last event at vmp, Beth you can Co od.. make a 30 second course, we'll put it up.. then lets do the poll.

Gunny.

I'm sorry if there has been any confusion.  The poll is just for fun, I didn't seriously mean that we should use it to make any rules about how courses should be designed.  By all means use the strengths of each venue to the fullest.

I like the polls keep em coming, but yeah I did figure it was meant of RIR and not other venues. I would really like to look into getting some other places to autocross just for a change of scenery.

Gunny - For November, i can add you as a co-OD.  That's our challenge meet with Blue Ridge and it's their turn to OD even though it's at RIR.

Really?
I'm not understanding these things correctly. How does blue ridge OD a event at our venue? We are the hosts.
Do we OD events at theirs?

We do every other year, they host and I assume they od their event. we host and I assume we od our event.
matter of fact they od the event at VMP a couple of years ago how does this happen?

how do they od our event?  sorry but really WTF?

BRR is hosting this year, but they asked to use this date for the competition because VMP is a better lot.

We should be the ODs. Ray is just designing the course since they are the host this year. We have done this before with BRR at VMP.

IIRC being "O.D." does not necessarily mean designing the course, although it often works out that way.
It means being responsible for making all aspects of the event happen, delegating as needed.

If I am ever O.D. I will definitely recruit someone else to design the course for that event!   Grin

how did they get assigned to running the course? are they paying this year?
you know what, just scratch me from this event, I'm done with all the drama and setup.

Keep in mind that Dominion Raceway will be up and running Spring 2015!

I believe they have an area suitable for AutoXing...not to mention a nifty looking road course for cars and karts Smiley

BRR is hosting this year, but they asked to use this date for the competition because VMP is a better lot.

And it helped resolve a conflict in the schedule to free up the original date (scheduled for Verona on 10/19) so that VMSC could have a challenge event with Tidewater SCC.

Now as for this;

"Ray is just designing the course since they are the host this year. We have done this before with BRR at VMP."

All true.

"how did they get assigned to running the course? "

If I remember correctly, I think I signed up and paid dues to be a VMSC member this year, so technically I'm "us" and not "they".  So if I wanted to be OD for a VMSC event I could , right?  By the way I'm also a member of BRR, NASA, and TSCC.

No problem. Now just design a good course for Sunday!

As Ray said, BRR was asked to move the challenge from Verona to VMP to resolve a schedule conflict and permit us to also do a TSC challenge. They were fully prepared to host at Verona.

I would like to volunteer to be either the OD or Co od for the october event at RIR.
if possible I would like to work with at least one person who has never been a OD or CO OD
things I'd like to work with this person is course layout and getting the event setup. I'd like to go thru things like timing, computer, display and trailer setup.

Can I design the Course ? I would make it frickn complicated but fun, fast, and not painful ?

If this is OK, I would volunteer to do the OD.

Can you move the trailer ? If not:

1. Can we park it Friday night ? If yes, please PM me you address and I will pick it up and move to RIR Friday evening.

2. If we cannot park it Friday night, I would pick it up Saturday afternoon.

I would like to set up Saturday late afternoon.

Let me know

Cheers
