For those of you who have been to a PCA1 DE, I think you'll agree they are very well done.
This is a great way to get your car on a track and actually see what it can do when you
get out of second.  Grin   Instructors are provided (required, in fact) for novices, and a lot
of attention is paid to safety while still leaving plenty of room for high-speed fun.

Two three-day PCA events are coming up this spring, both are 3 days on the full course:

1)  "Zone 2" (group of PCA clubs including First Settlers) will be at VIR March 14-16.
Blue group is already full (I am on the waitlist) but other run groups are still open including
Green (novice).  Click here for more info and registration.  Note that the Zone 2 event includes
*two* dinners, along with the usual event t-shirt.

2) First Settlers region PCA spring event will be May 16-18, which is the weekend before
Memorial Day weekend.  Registration should open in mid-February, and it fills up even
faster than Zone 2 so be ready to jump on it if you're interested.  MSReg placeholder is
here, but there's not much posted yet.  Expect it to be just like last year's, including the
BBQ on Saturday night.

PCA is certainly not the only group holding DE's at VIR, but it's the one I have the most
experience with and can wholeheartedly recommend.  Check with anyone who's been to
one of these to find out more.  For example me (Beth), Audie, Jeff, Bud, Justin, Marc,
Gunny, to start with.

Note:  The First Settlers DE in May will also include a PCA instructors clinic, so if you
already have a lot of track experience and would like to be a PCA DE instructor, this is
an opportunity to get certified.

1PCA = Porsche Club of America.  You do not need to be a member or have a Porsche to
participate in their DEs.  (Just have to be willing to hang out with them.  Smiley  )

Thanks for the reminder!  I've signed up for the March event and am waiting to be confirmed.

For anyone else thinking about going, I can definitely back up Beth's recommendation.  This is the best event I've ever been to.  Here are a few of the reasons:

1) 3 days on VIR full
2) only $425 for 9 30-minute sessions.  that's cheaper $/seat time than any other HPDE I've found
3) free food!
4) good group of people - of the few HPDEs I've done, people have been best about watching their mirrors and pointing me by here

Wooo hooooo!    I'm off the waitlist.   Scruffy & I will be there!

Now I just have to get a room, since SOMEBODY (not mentioning any names
but their initials are Chenery) took the very last room at the Lodge.....

Get a room?  VIR lets you camp.  They even have hot water for their showers.  Though with it being March, I may bring a space heater to stick in the wagon or tent or whatever I decide to do.

I'm holding out for the May 16-18 event.  Hope we can put together a group of VMSC folks like last year!

FYI - latest rumor is that registration for the May event will open on Monday Feb 24.

That event includes both a 3-day DE and a PCA instructor clinic (for becoming a PCA instructor).

Beth,

Do you have to pay when you sign up? Or can I hold a spot and pay when the date gets a bit closer in order to be sure the car has a chance to make it?

Normally you give your card# when you register, but it won't be charged until shortly before the event.

I believe the cancellation policy will be on the registration pages somewhere, so you can read that before you click to complete your registration.  (It's not there at the moment because there are no registration pages yet.  Smiley  )

PCA will be better!   See if you can cancel.   Grin

(Not to knock TrackDaze, they are a good organization too.)

I got an email from the FSR DE Registrar today confirming Beth's rumor that registration opens at 10PM on 24 February... but I'm still going to keep checking daily because as Beth said, this event fills up fast!

Info on the event is now available on Motorsportsreg.com.

Note that they changed the event a bit this year. It's still a 3-day event, but Friday track time is limited to solo drivers and drivers taking the PCA National DE Instructor Training.

So, the price for novice drivers (blue & green run groups) is less ($300 -vs- $400) and includes ~90 minutes per day of instructed track time along with one AM classroom session per day

Good catch, Marc.  I was assuming the instructor clinic was an add-on, not a replacement for one of the 3 days.
Makes sense though, they probably want their instructors working the clinic rather than instructing novices that day.

I wonder if I'll be cleared for White group by May.....

Ok. This makes the pricing fall back into line with other HPDE venues (price per minute). Thanks for posting this.

Jeff reported there is already limited lodging left at the track.
If you don't want to sleep in Danville (or in your car) better sign up soon.

Almost 180 now, however the counter includes some entries twice -- e.g. folks who are signed up for both Fri (solo only) and Sat/Sun.

If you count just the Sat/Sun entries it's still an impressive 120, considering registration has only been open since late Monday night.   Smiley

For those who have been to VIR before, along with the repaving there have been some
slight track layout changes.  This image gives you an idea where the changes are.
(btw you need to be logged in to see the image)
