I noticed registration isn't open yet... update from Marco is that it will open "early July".

Meanwhile if you want to make a longer weekend of it, there's the Rezoom one-day DE the day before:
https://www.motorsportreg.com/index.cfm/event/event.dashboard/uidEvent/91445F9F-9267-227C-DCD4ACE457094F34/

I have also heard a rumor that Rezoom may be doing the North course on the day before THAT (i.e. Thursday).   So you could be racing driver educating for five days straight.....

Registration for the fall DE is open!

     http://msreg.us/FALL2013

Note that you can sign up for just Sat/Sun (South course), just Monday (Full course), or all three.

There are separate checkboxes for Sat/Sun and Monday.  You can check either or both.

I can't see the prices any more because I'm already registered, so the website skips that page.
But I'm 99% sure it's less for Sat/Sun only.

In any case, you'll see the prices before you complete registration.

It was $400 for Sat, Sun on the short course plus Mon on the full course and $200 if you only do Monday on the full course.

I don't know how it all works so I very hesitantly signed up for Green Group Novice which to be honest hurt my ego a little bit. I hope I don't regret my selection and I kind of wish i would have got some second opinions before doing so. We shall see...

Green Group is the right place to start.  (In fact if PCA doesn't know you, and you don't have a verified boatload of track experience already on your resume, it's the only place you can start.)

It doesn't mean you're a novice *driver*, just that you're new to driving your car at track speeds at VIR.  There's a lot to learn that isn't necessarily about driving per se, that you can only learn by doing a bunch of laps with someone who knows the rules and the track.

Your instructor won't be interested in your racing prowess, but your ability to drive the track consistently and safely, including interacting properly with others in traffic and responding to corner worker flags.  As he sees you become comfortable with all that, you'll be cleared to go solo and then move up to the next run group.

(Personally I wouldn't rush it.  It was a lot more fun being one of the fastest drivers in Green than it is being one of the slowest in Blue.  Tongue   )

It was $400 for Sat, Sun on the short course plus Mon on the full course and $200 if you only do Monday on the full course.

So you didn't see an explicit option for Sat/Sun only?

The only options available were the three day event or the half priced one day event on Monday.

As for the novice stuff I'm more worried about how tight of a leash ill be on. I really want to open up on the throttle a bit and see what I can do. I knows there's a bunch of rules and protocols to be learned which is cool but I have a need for speed that must be appeased.   Tongue

I also can't use the A6s and I don't have any speed complaint street tires so still need to find some tires before I can even attend the event. Gotta figure something out...

You'll drive fast.  Just make sure you know where the flag stations are and look at them every lap and passing is only with a point-by in designated areas (straights).  If you get hung up behind a group of slow cars who won't let you pass, just pull into hot pit and ask the worker to space you out some.

Also, figure out the track before you try to drive to the car's limit.  It's pretty simple because you can see where it is and you're on it for more than 5 minutes, unlike autocross.  You'll have plenty of seat time so just work up to the limit at a reasonable pace and focus on driving the right line, looking ahead and being aware of flag stations and other cars.

Yea you'll get a chance to drive plenty fast on numerous occasions!
If you never done a hpde/de then you have to start in green.
So after a session or two you'll get to know the faster and slower cars and its really fun just running with someone that is running the same pace as you, I always tried to hook up with some driving at my pace.
Oh did I mention it's really fun passing some Porsche's and other high dollar cars! (this is why Justin has so much fun) and I know at one point I was front of the line waiting to go, I actually pulled around to get behind some cars. You will have a blast!
I unfortunately cannot make this event. I have some things on my plate to pay for (wedding, transmission (justin), ect. ect.) So Spring will be my next hpde or de.
