I'll start things off with a little Lost and Found entry!
The following was found near that last great Right Sweeper of Death before the finish. So if you heard a funny clunk as you drifted around the corner with all four tires screaming for mercy.... this might be yours.

Here is a link to some photos I took today. My first autocross and had a good time though embarrassed by my inability to "stay on course" repeatedly. These pics are primarily of the 1st heat as I was running in the 2nd and worked the 3rd....wife took a handful of pics of heat 2. Enjoy.... if anyone wants a print or the original file, let me know, I can email a few files. Some pretty good shots in this group, some not so much..... http://emphotos1.shutterfly.com/pictures/31390website has some of my other work form last few years of NASA events too if you want to check those out. Looking forward to the next one!! Eric

My fastest (as far as I know) was my re-run. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3-NuEBlI2AMy "official" fifth run may have been just as fast, but I'll never know 'cause they had a little glitch and gave me the rerun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4roRwZBKODo1T in SS! Basically because John Harmon couldn't make it. But hey, it's my first time ever with a first in class. Any class. I'll take it.

That's a good thought, a sway bar end link wouldn't be quite so critical. I was assuming a ball joint meant steering or control arm... which presumably the driver would have noticed shortly thereafter. (Just ask RedZero.)

The first 200 from heats 1 and 2 are online. I will upload the other 400 tomorrow night sometime. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ogburn/setsJust choose the set in the upper left marked Autocross @ RIR 6-9-13. Thanks to Gunny for the heat 2 photos and to Chris, Beth, Gunny, Jeff, and Dana for letting my niece, Kate, ride with them. She gets her learner's tomorrow and is anxiously awaiting an autocross school. David

you're pretty off on your evaluation of the tires everyone was running. ^^
STS runs street tires too. so do some of the other cars that were in classes that allowed for slicks.

Sorry Kas! Hard to distinguish. I'd love a list of whoever is on street tires I enjoy keeping on eye on them particularly.

it's all good. it would be cool to be able to see certain specs on your competitors but it's not so easy! all street touring classes have minimum treadwear requirements of 140 or 200 though. those are street tires, for future reference.
good video too.

I didn't have my head in the game but still had fun and am happy with the results. I definitely left a couple of seconds out there on the course though. When i get some pictures and external footage I'm going to revamp the video but until then heres what i got. The funny thing i would like to note... every time i came around the first round about my eyes wanted me to go straight and even when i go back and watch the video's I'm still trying to go straight as the camera swings unexpectedly left to head for the triple cones. Giving me an odd feeling every time I review it. http://youtu.be/DI5Xy1Xc5AQ

Doesn't look like anybody beat my best time of 39.775!! LOL I had expected to get better grip out of my pseudo-slicks, but I found they were somewhat unpredictable... so I decided to work on on "smooth and connected" rather than "blazing speed" this event. (At least, that's how I plan to tell it in my memoirs.) Actually I thought my fifth run went well, just don't know what the time was. But then my rerun turned out to be my fastest official time so I'll take that and be happy. Run #5 (time unknown)Re-run (official fastest, 47.895)(Travis, what software do you use to combine video clips?) Really fun course!! Thanks Engelbert! b.

The camera-in-hand infraction was noted by multiple course workers and publicly chastised by the announcer during the heat.
Probably wouldn't hurt to add a reminder to the driver's meeting; these days it's so common to have a camera in hand that it might not occur to someone there was any danger in doing it during an autocross run.
