My fastest run (#4) wasn't much, but I'll get the party started:

I'm hoping to use http://youtubedoubler.com/ to compare my runs and see where the tire pressure changes made a difference.

Your turn!!    Grin

One of my runs. I keep forgetting to turn the camera on. Hit a cone on the end.

I still can't believe that my times are that close of the top.

This is my first run @ RIR on 10 June 2012. I also kept forgetting to turn the camera on so it's the only run I recorded!
The camera angle was set to watch my hands and where I'm looking, but you still get a good view of the course.

Here is my second run, doing a little experimenting with some software on my phone. May get a blue tooth gps for mapping the course.
My rear tires are gone, toast, fried. I just paid everything off and now some more debt! Was hoping the tires could hold out for this season.

You came around the first "Right" corner too Hot !  The last corner too ! I did the same thing. We are having a practice next month a two day event. Get as many people to ride along and drive your car as you can because feedback is always relative to what "works" for the drivers style.

Marc's video above looks to be a good example of the right line. I drove the course pretty sloppy.

Ditto!!   Except that next month isn't a practice (where everybody simply drives the course as many times as they can during the day) but a school:  limited number of signups, and each student gets an assigned instructor for the day.  So it's more expensive than a practice, and more valuable since you get a lot more input.  Registration isn't open yet, but when it is you should jump on it before it fills up.

I expect Audie will be on the phone soon looking for volunteers.  Stay tuned!  Grin

Just to clarify, the school is just on Saturday.  Sunday will be a regular autocross event.  (There is a practice day scheduled for August.)

Also, if you're a club member and interested in picking up non-competition points,
consider helping out at the school even if you don't take it.  Ditto for the practice in August.

You're right, that was a pretty sluggish run.   Tongue

What are you using for data acq?   And how did you get it superimposed on the video?

I'm using my cell phone. I installed a app called "aLapRecorderHD" for Data acq. Right now I'm just using the software and my phones capabilities for data. The software on the phone will support an external GPS
and can get vehicle data via the OBDII port!.
Once I have the data I use a program called Trackvision http://www.trackvision.net/ to decipher the data and to sync it up with video from my gopro.

Beth, if you have an android phone check out trackmaster.  It's pretty neat and records video and overlays the data directly on the video.  It allows mapping the course using GPS during walkthrough, lets you set sectors, supports external obdII and GPS devices for higher data rate and lets you export for overlay using trackvision (if you have more than one camera).  It will also upload the data realtime so people can track your lap times via internet (better for track days/races than autox).  I've played with it some in my Ferrari but don't have a good mount for recording video.

Do any of you know of a good camera mount for a car without a roll bar?  I'm not interested in getting a GoPro as I have 2 or 3 HD cameras already and can't justify buying another one just for the car...I tried a suction cup mount with my phone but it was not sturdy enough for decent video and I was afraid the phone would fall out, so didn't even bother trying it with a camera.  I may make one of those headrest mounts but they don't allow much flexibility in where the camera mounts...

I don't have an android phone, closest thing I have is an iPod Touch which (last I checked) doesn't do TrackMaster.  Sad
I do have an app called Dynolicious, but I haven't actually tried it in an autocross.  Could I just use my regular GPS,
stuffed securely in my glove box perhaps?  Then extract the gpx and feed that to a program that does the overlay.

I am very impressed with my Contour HD camera mount.  I don't see any shaking whatsoever, and yet it's easy to
attach & detach from the windshield.  You'd have to see whether you could attach your camera to it.

Thanks for that, I ended up ordering something very similar that also came with a smartphone adapter so I can either use one of my cameras or my smartphone.  I also picked up a mount that just clamps to things and a 3M adhesive disc that allows you to mount the suction cup to anything flat that it will stick to like the rear package tray.  Total was only around $50, we'll see how it works out.

I tried trackmaster, a recent update broke the ability for it to record laps (data) and do video at the same time. I still have it on my phone and will wait for an update. I sent the creator symptoms i was having with my phone and he's going to fix. I also tried RaceChrono, Just ended up with the one I have, easy to use for me. I  think alaprecorderhd will work on the ipod touch.

Checkout Torque Pro for Android.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torque&hl=en

There is also a free version.

It requires a bluetooth obdii connector and can pull and log everything from your car's computer and capture gps and video too. Google ELM327 for a good/cheap one.

It also helped me get out a reckless speeding charge when I was able to produce gps and car data proving I wasn't speeding. Smiley I now run it every single time I get in the car. I also happen to run google latitude all the time so having two separate data collections probably helped in my case.

It's not really for racing as far as lap tracking goes. You can have it automatically upload the data to their server so you can review it later. I sometimes use a different program, MegaLogViewer, to review the data. Although it does require you to edit the header section of the log first.
