Hello all.

There's a chance I know some of you, but probably a better chance some of you knew me when I was young.  My mother (Marian DeBardeleben) and father (Fred DeBardeleben) were active in the club in the 70s and 80s.  Both having past away, I am left with several boxes of trophies.  While there are some key choice ones I have chosen to save, I still have a mass of (what I believe to be) pewter trophies that I cannot figure out what to do with.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  I haven't been able to bring myself to just toss them in the trash (yet).  I can't seem to find any place that wants to melt them down and reuse them.

Does VMSC have some sort of museum (doubtful, I know) that I could donate these to?

I realize this is a strange question so please let me know if you have any ideas.

My email address is ndebard@gmail.com.  I will try and check back here regularly but clearly I'm not one of your club and I hate to intrude.

I also have some old rallies they had written and run but I'm keeping those as they are very compact (paper).

If anyone remembers Marian, she passed away on election day 2008 after a long battle with schlerodermo, an auto-immune disease.  She spent the last few years of her life in Los Alamos, New Mexico, living near me, my wife, and my girls.

To jog your memory, I've attached a picture of her from Christmas 2006.  Looking for some ideas, take care.

I remember your Mom and Dad. I know they were avid rally competitors, and I think they autocrossed a 240-Z when I joined the club in 1975. If no one else has any ideas, you may want to check with Bill and Shelia Hunter, or with Chuck and Betsy Edwards. I'll try to get the message out to them.

I knew Fred and Marian in those heady days.  What to do with the trophies of another era is a question that all of us have to consider.  Trophies are evidence of the achievements of those who have left them and sadly have little value to the next and future generations.

VMSC has no physical home and no place to display them.  But they don't memorialize the club.  They show the successes of those to whom they were awarded.  Nathan, I suggest you keep one or two and give the rest to those who would enjoy the pewter bowls, mugs, or plates.  Give them to an organization that can make them available at little or no cost to needy folks.
