Typically to club gets together earlyish in the year for a dyno day. Is anything scheduled this year?

Looking to put the xr4ti on the dyno. Most likely it will pop again but what the hell right. Just need to know when I should have it running by.

new motor for 2013!

For those that are wondering what happened at the last event of the year.

Took the head and block with it...

I need to put about another 200 - 300 miles on the 3.6L and test it again.

That is what I'm thinking as well. Need to drive it around a bit first. Meaning I need to get it together that much sooner.

You should see some decent improvements over last time however.

I don't know what that is but it looks melted !? My mazdaspeed 3 had a 2.3 cosworth turbo motor. Is that a cosworth ?

Not scheduled yet but David is working on it. looking at late feb early march I think but stand to be corrected.

I like Dyno days, free coffee and dounuts sometimes pizza and cars making noise = good times

Cool. Yes, I've never been but I want too.

Its the head gasket. It's not a 2.3 cosworth, I wish. Those are 16v, this is a old classic ford 2.3 turbo. Years and years of use in a lot of cars.

Here is the head

Here is the block, I think I can deck it out at 20-30 thousandths and save it... for the next time.

Is this a cast iron head ? You should be able to have it milled down, and ready to put together if the valves are OK. At least clean them and lap (check the springs, new valve stem seals), or next step, have the valve grinded, seal cut, etc.

Like those 4 I engines, there are easy to work on.

Cheers

Yes. Its a cast iron head. I ended up finding a head and shortblock and put them together. It ended up being pretty cheap because they are so common. The head i dont believe can be saved. Its gouged 50-60 thousandths. Beyond decking, not to mention that wouldnt be the first time it has been decked. Maybe if it was a na motor.

Im saving the bottom end of the old motor. Once i finish putting in the bridgeport i should have a fun time machining and building my first bottom end.

Your right, these old I4 are cake compared to what you had to deal with.

I checked with Kevin at Performance Autosport about scheduling our Dyno Day. They are racing at VIR on 2/17, another club is signed up for 2/23, and he isn't sure about his schedule for 3/2 yet.

Anyone have any problems with joining in with this other club?  It is Torque Spec from the Beach. http://www.torque-spec.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=243 They have at least a couple of autocrossers. This would make it much easier to get the full discount ($50 for 3 pulls with air/fuel ratio), but would likely limit us to around 8 cars.

Want to take this or wait and see about 3/2? Please respond and tell me who would come on 2/23 with the other club, who would come on 3/2, and whether you have a preference. I need to respond to Kevin this week so please respond quickly.

I'd be able to attend either of the dates. Whatever works best for everyone else.

I would prefer the 2Mar date ... gives me  more time to run in my ST's new motor.  But I'm in, whatever date gets picked ... I'll just have to take a couple of nice leisurely trips is all.

OH darn!  Poor ole me, I'll have to drive my new wheels.

That's your problem, right there.  Those nice leisurely trips are detrimental to creating a good piston ring to cylinder wall seal (or so I've heard).  Gotta drive it like you stole it immediately, so what better/safer way to do that than on a dyno?

We are set for 2/23. We will be sharing the date with the club from Va. Beach. When I get a starting time, I will start a new thread for sign-ups. The cost will be $50 for 3 pulls with air/fuel. (This assumes we get ten cars, which should not be an issue when combining with the other club)

Thanks. I will be a spectator as well. I don't have anything that hasn't already been dynoed.

Ok. Put any more posts in the Dyno Sign-up thread.

An admin has to approve his forum registration because of all the robot accounts we would get otherwise. It should not take more thna a day or 2.

Also, after the account is approved the new user still has to activate it.

Please put me down, sounds like fun. Hope I am not too disappointed, but I need a base-line.
