I'm looking to get a set of R comps for my '94 Miata. The stock size is 185/60 R 14.
I'm curious what other sizes Miata owners are using for autocross?
I'm considering using 205/55 R14.  Tire Rack has the Hankook Ventus Z214 for $132.00 each and the Kumho V710s for $176.00 each for that size. I'm leaning towards the Hankook due to the price difference. Any feedback on those tires?

If anyone has some used R comps that will fit my stock rim, please let me know.

Thanks

If you're just looking for something cheap, give this guy a call: http://www.jbracingtires.net/  His stock is always changing but I wouldn't be surprised if you could get a set of tires for 40-80ea.

I've heard mixed reviews on the Hankooks but am probably going to end up getting a set myself next year since Kumho V710s got expensive all of a sudden.  Make sure you get the C71 compound, the C51 will likely be too hard for autocross.

I run 15" wheels for autocross so this may not be the best advice for you, but I run 205-50/R15 V710s

Stock rims are only what, 5.5"?  The more rubber you can stuff under your car, the better, but I think it would be pretty tough to squeeze a 205 onto a 5.5" rim.  I really irked a buddy with a tire machine a couple years ago by having him put 225's onto a 7" rim.  It broke his machine.

There was a factory '94 with 6" rims, though, so if you're trying to stay in ES, you could source a set of 14x6e45 wheels and stuff 205's on them.

Your best bet for autocross, though, IMO, is 225/45R15 on the lightest wheels you can get.  Hankook Ventus Z214 C71's for any month other than July or August (when you actually want the harder C51's).

Team Dynamics makes fantastic light wheels for Miatas with 25mm offsets for an aggressive stance.

The stock rims on my Miata are 14x6.  I definately want to stay in the stock class (ES).
I'm still hunting for used tires & rims.
Hope to have some by the next AutoX.

Tire & Rim Search is Over!
Now, can i some how get all that stuff in the miata? or do I need to get a small trailer to carry the tires?
Guess I'll have to try it out.

Any ideas on where I can get a cheep tire trailer & hitch?

What did you get?  Some people just drive on their R-comps to and from the events.  Otherwise, I've seen a bunch of people make tire trailers out of the cheap utility trailers from Harbor Freight.

Oh, I found a set of stock rims of another R edition on craigslist & i ordered the Hankook R-comps. Hopefully, they will last til the end of Next season.

I don't think I want to drive the car with the R comps to the event. I want them to last as long as possible.  Grin
