Hello everyone!

Figure I'll introduce myself in the chance our house actually sells and we get to leave the cold for Virginia!

Names Allan, I'm from Albany, NY and we are looking to move to the Virginia Beach area. I'm a married father of a 15 month old boy who has 1/2 a season of autocross under my belt and am LOVING it!

I drive a Jetta VR6 Wagon.... yes a wagon. Seems to handle well in ST class. (I'm not sure how your classes are compaired to SCCA's)

Just wondering where your events are held? I saw RIR and VMP but I don't know what that is. hehe.
Richimnd International Raceway?
Virginia Motor Park?
Anyways.....

Heres to selling our house at the worst possable time!

Welcome and good luck on selling the house so you can join us! We have a number of regulars and semi-regulars who come from the Va. Beach area.

To answer a couple of your questions, we follow SCCA classing rules so you would still be in ST. You would definitely not be the first wagon to run with us.

RIR is Richmond International Raceway. We use a parking lot there that is just inside gate 2.

VMP is Va. Motorsports Park. It is just south of Petersburg in Dinwiddie County. It is a large drag strip with a very large parking lot that we use for autocross.

Tidewater Sports Car Club (TSCC) runs in Norfolk on a concrete lot called ACU-4 on the Little Creek Naval base. Their website is http://www.tidewatersportscarclub.com/. We try to set our schedule to not conflict with theirs, but we are not always successful.

Ask away if you have other questions.

Welcome to the forum.  I actually started autocrossing in Troy at RPI.  I never ran with the SCCA up there but ran with the group at school as well as the Porsche club.  Good luck with the house, hope to see you at some autocrosses if you make it down.

Yeah I found the Tidewater club too I just figured I'd go up to some of your events too.

I saw some pics of the site Tidewater uses. SWEET!!! VMP sounds like a great spot too. Our local drag strip has a swamp for a parking lot. I run in the MoHud Region of the SCCA up here and we use a number of different local schools, state employee parking lots, mall parking lots and whatever else will let us run.

On a side note: I'm also psyched to see some AAA baseball with the Norfolk Tides. As a Yankee fan I'd be happy to see them play the SWB Yankees!

Troy hu? I work in watervliet and can look out our back door and see RPI.

We're having an open house on the 18th so we've got our fingers crossed!

Allan be prepared not to be able to find a decent bakery down here, hard rolls are completely unknown.
That said, it's WAY cheaper to live in VA than NY so it kinda make up for it.
I'm from Long Island originally and the wife is from Latham (which you may be familiar with).
Good luck with the move.

Ellwood Thompson's sells bagels from NY.

Allan, you won't be the only Yankees fan around. I have been one all my life ... and I am from Va.

Welcome to the sunny southland!!  At least in VaBeach you will have the ocean breeze to insulate you from the 100+ temps we have had for the last week or so.  And when (not if!) you come up to Richmond for autocrossing and your stomach is feeling homesick you can try out our NY Deli at: http://www.returnofthedeli.com/.  It has been a local favorite for as long as I can remember.

Good luck with the house sale and you will love Virginia.  I went through the same thing last year and finally sold my house on Long Island last February.  After a brief stay in Richmond we are now in Williamsburg.  It's a tough real estate market for selling but remember that a buyer's market will help you when you move to Virginia.  And it's a relief to get away from NY taxes.

I've autocrossed with VMSC a few times and it's is a really good group of folks.  I haven't tried Tidewater yet but I may now that I'm living in Williamsburg.  Hope to see you at an event soon.

Allen,

We are racing at ACU-4 in Norfolk this Sunday. Only problem is if you have not signed up on hte website, you cannot gain access to the base. Unless you have a military ID.

If you did sign up, come and find me or my husband Keath. We drice the silver vette in SS.

Hope to see ya there!
