51  General / Autos and Autosport / Street Touring brake cooling? on: April 29, 2016, 02:34:12 PM
After my 1st track day with the new set-up and STP prep learned I need some brake cooling. Now what is legal in Street touring? I'm looking to make something like this ( pic attached) now is this legal since you are cutting some of the dead space in the front lower grille.

The rules in ST state, Air ducts may be fitting to the brakes provided that they extend in the forward directions only and that no changes are made in the body /structure for their use. They may serve no other purpose.

Not sure if there is another way to make them functional without cutting something in the front to install. Thanks for the ideas

Are we going to be running the same schedule every event as the 1st one? Or will the club rotate around the heats for the classes?

Thats the plan, as soon as I get a chance to do it. Thanks for the information

Yea there are some scary stories out there about the harbor freight ones, these are similar in alot of ways but not all of them, that's why I went with the northern brand. The cage I made for the wheels ties the mid and rear frame rails together with the sides, and the box does the same with the front end. I do plan on blowing it all apart in the off season ( unless a reason pops up to do it sooner) and welding the whole frame together. Here is the finished trailer.

I finished up the fab work on the "cage" to lock in the wheels

I'm in process of building mine now, ( mines a little over kill ). Its a 40x48 w/ 12" wheels, 36" tool chest, and the rear is a 53" wide tube rack to hold my 315's. I'm in it just over a grand ( trailer, chest, metal, and hitch) I think its all worth it instead of putting the Stang up on a trailer and paying for the gas in my 88 tow rig. When towing I get 7-8mpg where I get 25mpg with the stang and with a 200mi route trip the trailer will pay for itself.

57  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Street-touring Pony build on: April 16, 2016, 03:41:39 AM
HAHAHA I've seen so many of them now, that's a good one. But hey when you have one of the most popular car in the country, match it with a big V8 and can get them cheap. This is what you get a lot of non driving fools. With that said, I sense a large group of people at a car show near by........
58  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Street-touring Pony build on: April 11, 2016, 03:46:27 PM
The Forgestar guys seem awesome and their products are top notch. I ran last year on skinny rs3's and they were a huge step up from the factory tire, and after running the factory wheels/tires the first event I'm so ready for a proper tire again.
59  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Street-touring Pony build on: April 10, 2016, 05:07:18 PM
Got some updates on the car. FINALLY got in the Forgestar 18x11s. That is all...

Haha but really they are in and just amazed by them. Light enough I'm still dropping weight off the stock wheels and tires. Factory 19x9 with 255s are 56lbs and these 18x11s with 315s are 52lbs. The rears fit inside the fenders no problem, however the fronts rub on my koni strut bodies. Just need a small spacer and will be good to go.

Also since I do drive this car to and from events ( carolina line and back) and want to try make the tires last as long as I can, I'm building a trailer.

The trailer will have the wheels stacked side by side on the back, big chest to store all the tools and jack. will be great to traveling to events further away. The hitch is made by Curt that Blowfish racing developed the receiver unbolts with 4 bolts to hide the whole assembly in between hauling.

Can't wait to get out there and see how big of a difference the wheels and tires make.

I'm interested as well in getting mine up on the scales as well. Maybe early before registration opens one autocross? (Hopefully May since I'll miss this month's event Nascar! Haha )

Guess I'll start off the media from Saturday's autocross. Congrats to everyone who came out, was great to see everyone again and get back on track. Thanks to all the members who put on the event couldn't be done without you.

Was my first event with all the changes to my stang just missing my wheels and tires but still had a blast sliding around out there on my stockers. Somehow managed to knock my alignment out of wack during my runs got to get that sorted out. Hope you enjoy the video

65  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Street-touring Pony build on: March 19, 2016, 02:02:55 PM
I know right should make for a fast little pony, but as of now, 1week out of the first event. My wheels are still being machined by forgestar. Slim chances ill have them in time to mount and check fitment before the event. Good thing I still have my stockers to drive on.
66  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Street-touring Pony build on: March 05, 2016, 04:03:19 PM
You know it! Wont be able to complain about lack of grip this year
67  General / Autos and Autosport / Street-touring Pony build on: March 05, 2016, 06:27:41 AM
Scca announced last year that in 2016 there will be a new class in ST for all the American made pony cars. ( Yea Yea I know there is CAM with all most the same rules to a point) But I like the idea and the push of the competition with all the ST classes together. So I decided to make the jump from Stock up to Street touring and have some fun. Here is my little transformation of my 2014 Mustang GT from stock to Street-touring.

First things first had to ditch the super soft and spongy struts and springs. A good friend of mine was trading up mustangs so was de-moding  his and got a killer deal on his Koni yellow SA struts with ground control coil-overs ( used but barely a season on them) running 440lbs front and 275lbs rear ( might have to drop that once i get to drive and fine tune the balance) with J&M caster/camber plates.

Then next the biggest upgrade I've been planning all last season. The rear ends in these cars just plain suck. bushings are super soft, move all around, wheel hop when ever you try to press the accelerator control arms flex. So Called up BMR suspension great people and quality products. They hooked me up with a killer set-up for the rear. All adjustable tubular with spherical rod ends on one end and then poly on the other end. Lower control arms with relocation brackets, upper control arm with bracket, panhard bar with brace.

Moving up too the front now discovered in all my research that except for the struts and springs ( which I've already checked off my list) and I already have brembo 14" brakes. The next and huge upgrade will be ditching the factory hydraulic fluid filled control arm bushings. Terry Fair of Vorshlag was a huge help with all this information and he wasn't lieing about the total pain it was to replace them. So took 2 days to burn, cut, and clean out the old factory bushings to replace with poly bushings.

Here is the whole package installed work of art.

After all the install and first impressions the car should of had this for the track pack options from the factory. Finally feels like the wheels are connecting to the ground. Rear end is locked in place no movement at all front steering is night and day. No brake dive or body roll. Can't wait till the 1st autocross to really see the difference this all makes. Alignment specs -2.8 camber +7 caster 0 toe. rear is centered and square with -1 degree pinion angle.

Oh wait How could I forget the most important part of this madness. The wheels and tires. STP allows 18x11s for max width with straight axle cars. Terry Fair of vorshlag has the specs for a custom Forgestar wheel to run 18x11s on all 4 corners with 315 bfg rivals under the factory body with no modification. I have the tires just waiting for the Custom wheels to be made and sent out should get them any time now.

Difference between FS (265 rs3) and STP ( 315 rivals)

Thanks for the interest in this build and CANT WAIT to get this year started hope to have a-lot of fun out there with you all again.
68  General / Open Forum / Re: Dyno Day on: March 03, 2016, 05:55:27 PM
David as of right now with the forecast with the snow up there I'm going to have to pull out. Just too far for me to drive and chance with the snow if it does accumulate. If you do decide to cancel will there be a make up date?
69  General Category / Ask the Competition Committee / Re: Older tires and classing STS vs CSP on: March 02, 2016, 02:21:15 AM
Goes by what's written on the sidewalls. But looks like the battle for ST trophy this year is going to be a tough one.

I have fun last year trying to keep up with James and you, but I'm moving up with the new class STP. Really need to sit down and make a build thread for here. So I wont be in the fight for stock trophy but street touring, still need to out PAX you gunny haha.
