This is I want to see out there! Defiantly would rise some eyebrows from the norm thats running
28  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Optima search for the ultimate street car 2016 on: August 08, 2016, 10:19:04 AM
Yea that's what whole event is really about "street cars". Some of the cars are far from that, but hey what can you do at the end of the day the times don't lie and that is what gives the points to win.

Ask me anything, They have all the info and rules posted on the website, http://driveusca.com/ But I know the club has some great drivers and cars that would fit in and have some great fun!

Thats right something to do with how they are titled. I know thats got to be weird.
31  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Optima search for the ultimate street car 2016 on: August 08, 2016, 02:03:53 AM
Thanks! All considered I did very well earning 400 points. From what everyone has told me if I could do that 3 times that could get me to vegas on points.

GTL is the most diverse class they have. Anything can run in it as long as you make the weight cap. Mostly see vettes in it but I've seen neons, classic trucks ( thats right have no clue how they did the weight for a 60s fullsize), civics, s2000s, miatas, evos, sti. I totally forgot you still had the civic, but you'd make one hell of a showing in it! If you get your dad's cobra done get him to bring that down.
32  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Optima search for the ultimate street car 2016 on: August 07, 2016, 05:44:47 PM
Hell ya man! Keep me posted with foxbody and I'll do the same when they start to post the info for next season. Charlotte sold out past 2 years I'm sure they will have it again in 2017.
33  Results / Autocross / Re: August 7th 2016 Results on: August 07, 2016, 05:35:24 PM
That FS #32 stang was miss classed should of been in CAM-C from what I saw.

Great event as always and thanks for everyone who make it go so smoothly. Great course Gunny I'll try not to kill so many cones next time haha

34  General / Autos and Autosport / Optima search for the ultimate street car 2016 on: August 06, 2016, 05:58:58 AM
Well after getting hooked on being part of this series last year I just had to go back. The Optima event is a year long series held all over the country at some of the best venues for racing. I took the short road trip down to Charlotte to run my chance for an invite to join in the fun at the end of the season in Vegas. That's the ultimate goal is punching a ticket to Vegas for the championship event and a spot in the Sema show. They did make a change to the points system this year by having every event ( 5 total ), being a 100 points for winning and 1pt for each position down from there. That being said they put all the times together for each event then gave points, and at the end of the event what points you receive then counts to your individual classes. Really does make sense once I got to the event and started to count points. Well enough of that here is how I placed.

First being decided by a coin flip on Saturday morning ,at the drivers meeting, on what group will get the Autocross first. Group A got the call so we were off to the Autocross grid, Oh yea I was in A, Which was perfect! We lucked out and had clouds all morning which kept it cool for being the end of July, and with rain in the chances that afternoon which didn't come. The course was huge and had a lot of speed and room to move about. And I mean speed grabbing 3rd in my stang was crazy. My fastest run was a 48.8 but had a super late cone call. Late enough I made another run before I found out about it, so I had to rely on my next fastest of a 49.5 which I didn't think that was going to stick long. The afternoon session was hot for group B and sunny, at the end of the day I finished 4th in GT and 14th of the 75 cars giving me 87 points. Really surprised that the 49.5 held on for that placing, Damn them cones! Here is my fastest run ( coned )

Then we had a lunch break and on to the Speed stop. Which was basically a 1/8th mile drag then a 180 right hand turn through a lane change and stop in a 20x40 box. This really gives me such a challenge for some reason, need to practice for it some how..... maybe I'll need to OD a event and do a stop box at the end?Huh?? Would that be allowed? I also kept having issues with shifting. I'm still all stock on my drive train and I think 15k hard miles its starting to show. These Stang's have a terrible MT-82 trans and paired with a remote shifter and 6500rpm and a wearing clutch just kept locking me out of 2nd and 3rd. So already have plans for the winter doing a clutch and shifter swap to solve this issue. I was able to get a 17.2 placing me 12th in GT and 33rd out of 75 giving me 68 pts.

In between all that fun was the Design and engineering event. Which has been getting alot of bad rep as of late and I'm sure you can guess why. They have different judges for each event and its all subjective. Basically have alot of sponsors and stickers you win. But I did better than I figured placing 14th in GT and 32nd overall giving me 69pts

https://clubregistration.net/clients/usca/results/overallDetails.cfm?subEventType=ED

Packed the car up all after a long hot day and hit the road on the road rally 40mins through all kinds of roads to our destination meet up at the Go-Pro karting track. I made it so that was 100 pts.

Sunday was all about the Track. Up at sunrise and moving the car into the speedway. Got into my garage stall and swapped out my pads for a better compound. G-LOC brake pads are AWESOME if anyone is looking for pads they offer from Autocross up to full track pads. On the track for the first session, I ran with the novice group because I've only done 3 track day events ever and don't have all the safety equipment yet to move up to intermediate group. Still is unreal every lap you turn there running on the 24degree banking of Charlotte and the speed down the back stretch at over 150mph. Ran the 2nd session out and thats when I ran into an issue. Being the fastest is novice group only took 2 laps to catch the end of the field and we couldn't pass. Did Post a 1.49.9 lap in that session that ended up being my fastest. The 3rd session out was ready to cut some more time but as soon as I hit the banking for the first lap my dash lit up with all kinds of lights. Locking all the stability, traction controls, and ABS. Being that I parked to try to fix it to get back out. With no quick fix or even a hint of a solution, Something electrical in the computer was my guess. So that ended my day really short, but my time stuck for the Fastest novice group. Placing me 8th in GT and 25th fastest overall giving me 76pts.

End of the event placed me 8th in GT with 400 pts. Even with the challenges I faced was great. Going to plan more upgrades for the car in the off season and run again next year I'm knocking on the door I can just feel it to get my invite. Also you can try to get in on Points alone, by running 3 events through the year and if you have enough points at the end the top 15 will get in, and from this year so far looks like 1100-1200 points will get you in. Just need to get more funding or maybe some sponsors to help with entry fees to get to more than just one event a year.

Limping the car home on Monday since the computer system was still all locked down, took all week to search down the issue and reason why. Trying every scanner I could get my hands on none would read any codes, finally Thursday I got up with a local shop and my buddy scanned with his scanner after a while of trying different ways he found a code and was able to clear it. Threw a c0063 which is a YAW sensor fault. After talking to some racing groups and builders the advancetrac stability control system on these cars is good for street but terrible on track, Which I knew and that is why I turn everything off at Autocross and Track days. I some how pushed the car enough on the track that I faulted out and locked everything back on thinking it was in a wreak. There is a simple solution and Ford is the one who makes it just for the racers. Its a whole new ABS control module ran in the Boss302r race cars, that over rights all the traction controls and advancetrac and turns it all completely off along with all the sensors from the factory. The ABS is also changed to uphold for better brake pads and sticker tires. This will also be an other thing done in the off season so I don't have that problem again.

Had a Great time despite issues, Would still like to get a group together for next year to head to one of the events. All you need is 200tw tires and a car, basically CAM rules but they are open to any make and model. Needs to be street legal registered and insured  Chris??? Marc?? Joe??? Gunny?? Paul??? Justin?? I know I'm forgetting some but I know We could raise hell out there.

Awesome event everyone can't wait for the next one as always. Can't believe I still got a top 10 just wish I could of stopped killing cones that 34.4 would of been nice clean haha.
43  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Street Touring brake cooling? on: May 07, 2016, 02:52:43 PM
The lower grille is about 2/3 open for the radiator the sides are blocked off and thats the area I would use for the brake ducts. Being that I would have to open that up know that isn't going to be legal. Rules are rules  I know there's no way around them.  Every club should keep to them and not allow any exceptions.

So I'm going to just make the jump to CAM..... open rule book this could get expensive haha
44  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Street Touring brake cooling? on: May 04, 2016, 01:26:52 AM
So which one will be a vette Chris? Haha
45  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Street Touring brake cooling? on: May 03, 2016, 01:18:18 AM
From who I have talked too locally you can get away with it  not too many people have an issue, but. Technically its illegal at a national level. Body is suppose to be unmodified even if its just a 3in hole for the sole purpose of brake cooling. Now I could fab up a mount to hold the ducking and put it in the lower grille where its already open, as per the rules, but thats just blocking airflow for my radiator.

It's going to much easier for me to just make the jump to CAM-C just an open rule book with the same pax just about.
46  General / Autos and Autosport / Street Touring brake cooling? on: April 29, 2016, 02:34:12 PM
After my 1st track day with the new set-up and STP prep learned I need some brake cooling. Now what is legal in Street touring? I'm looking to make something like this ( pic attached) now is this legal since you are cutting some of the dead space in the front lower grille.

The rules in ST state, Air ducts may be fitting to the brakes provided that they extend in the forward directions only and that no changes are made in the body /structure for their use. They may serve no other purpose.

Not sure if there is another way to make them functional without cutting something in the front to install. Thanks for the ideas

47  Results / Autocross / Re: Run by class on: April 23, 2016, 02:56:26 AM
Are we going to be running the same schedule every event as the 1st one? Or will the club rotate around the heats for the classes?

Thats the plan, as soon as I get a chance to do it. Thanks for the information
49  General / Classifieds / Re: WTB tire trailer on: April 20, 2016, 04:41:37 PM
Yea there are some scary stories out there about the harbor freight ones, these are similar in alot of ways but not all of them, that's why I went with the northern brand. The cage I made for the wheels ties the mid and rear frame rails together with the sides, and the box does the same with the front end. I do plan on blowing it all apart in the off season ( unless a reason pops up to do it sooner) and welding the whole frame together. Here is the finished trailer.
