I love it! Can you imagine all the looks on the highway? I see this as a good business model supplied by all the old Caravans and Aerostars, forget tiny homes, microhomes!

What are the chances you still have these?
5  General / Technical Help / Re: Looking for cheap track tires on: December 04, 2017, 07:46:02 AM
That's surprising with the 100 treadwear rating, which I know is subjective. Either way good to know, the NT01's have received the most votes, just wish they weren't so expensive. I would hate to cord the outside of them while still lots of center tread.

Thanks for the help guys! gonna marinade on it for a while...

275/35/18 NT01s are $249ea at Discount Tire Direct.  Can't comment on number of sessions, it depends too much on your setup and driving style...also NCCAR chews up tires.

Very true. What do you think worst case scenario at nccar on a heavy car is?
7  General / Technical Help / Re: Looking for cheap track tires on: December 01, 2017, 02:02:11 PM
Thanks guys, I've had the most votes for NT01's, unfortunately they are the most expensive! Of course if they last longer, then thats less mount & balance cost too. How many 20 minute sessions at nccar would you think they average? I've found Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's for 600 shipped, which is about half the NT01's, but they probably will only last a few track days, especially NCCAR.

Only 135 Gunny in the vette? I thought you'd be higher than that! Notice I said "ultimate grip" Obviously I want to stay on the pavement, just don't want Hoosier like grip so I can feel to mistakes, in a safe way of course!

Well I'll follow you into turn one so you can test that "Ultimate grip" on cheap tires! Yea I rounded down, you made me look at my videos. All I could muster was 138, sorry to disappoint.

LOL
your going to have a blast!

Gunny

You know what I mean! Not cheap, but rather low cost good tires!

Is yours LS2 or 3? I think the gearing got taller in the c6 didnt it? I get into 5th at about 133 and half way down the straight if I hit the sweeper right but not sure what I top at, stereo has gps speed but stops at 135. I basically have c5 z06 drivetrain.

It will be on my 3700# (with me) Camaro which eats the outside. Currently around -1.8 camber but I'm going to grind the slots for another -.5 and I have offset bushings that get another -.5 if necessary.

I don't mind dropping a little more for tires that will last and ultimate grip doesn't matter since I'm learning. Also these will be dedicated for track, maybe drive to the track but that's it. Inside storage isn't a problem either.

Thanks for the recommendation!
10  General / Technical Help / Looking for cheap track tires on: November 27, 2017, 06:27:26 AM
I'm looking for cheap summer tires to learn track driving in 275-35-18. I've been to a few events and between running mostly old Hoosiers and a session on all seasons, I could tell how much smoother I had to be on the street tires. So I'm looking for the best cheap summer tires I can get, not spending a grand on some Pilot Super Sports, though I know they would be great.

***EDIT***(previous tires not so great)
I'm thinking about the following, both good reviews, one is cheaper and seem to be reviewed more for track/ax so that alone sounds better that they get attention:

Kumho PS91 $580 shipped from tire rack.
Federal 595RS-RR $515 shipped Amazon

Since its a safety issue, you should write a letter to petition the use of reinforced brackets like the ones Alan Blaine sells.

16  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Dominion Raceway on: July 27, 2016, 03:15:08 AM
Me too. I emailed SCCA and I guess the runoff is the issue. They said it is more of a pro setup and not enough for novices that will likely go off course. The DC SCCA will still have PDX weekends there plus the NASA events so all is not lost!
17  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Dominion Raceway on: July 26, 2016, 04:24:02 AM
Well so much for DR, it looks like SCCA cancelled all "Track night in America" events. Sounds like there was a falling out, not just the schedule delay. Here is the email they sent:

Quote
Track Night participants,

As you may be aware, there has been a significant amount of work and effort put into potential Track Night events at Dominion Raceway in Northern Virginia. Despite those efforts, SCCA Track Night in America has made the decision not to hold events at Dominion Raceway in the foreseeable future.

While the track has made great strides to accommodate groups like Track Night, the current configuration of the track itself is inconsistent with the philosophy and needs of Track Night.  For those of you who are interested in learning and experiencing the track, we recommend the Performance Driving Experience program offered by the Washington DC Region.

I was unable to make it down Saturday, any chance of another weigh in day?
19  General / Classifieds / Re: WTB tire trailer on: April 21, 2016, 03:57:13 AM
Just make sure you reinforce that tongue. Just the bolts through thin sheet metal isn't much to hold the lateral loads without any triangulation.
20  General / Classifieds / Re: WTB tire trailer on: April 18, 2016, 03:27:44 AM
That looks the same as the Harbor Freight trailer which half that price when its on sale and you use the 20% off coupon. You should reinforce the tongue  and all of the joints, there are horror stories on forums about them coming apart. I welded all the joints and used 1" square tube to triangulate the tongue on the two cross bars that it connects to. One of the Vette guys had his rip off on the highway, luckily it went in the ditch instead of another car.

22  General / Technical Help / Re: Car scales and corner weight? on: April 03, 2016, 05:10:22 AM
The scale pads are ~2 5/8" tall with a 15"x15" footprint.
23  General / Technical Help / Re: Car scales and corner weight? on: April 02, 2016, 06:19:05 AM
Wow its been a year already, where'd the time go!? I'm still willing to build some ramps for this. Should be easy just stacked and staggered plywood about 20" long overall and as wide as the scale,  1/2" sheets staggered every 4" going up to the scale.

If we set up a station to pull cars up to, the rear scales and ramps can be slid out, pull car up to front scales and align them, slid in rear scales and ramps, weigh car, roll off, slide out rear scales, move car, rinse, repeat. Of course like you said, finding a flat level surface is the hard part.
