Excellent web page, short & to the point.  Thanks!

And if you like long runs, check this out:  1.5 miles, 2+ minute course.  The video is from last year, but this year's course was pretty similar.

Venue is the Pomona Fairplex in southern California, where I was visiting last weekend.  When I heard there was an autocross going on, I dragged one of my friends over to watch.  The place is huge - you need binoculars to see the car once it gets to the other end!   (And maybe a Segway for the walk through.)

Noob question:  I know what a dyno is, but what is a "pull"?

I'm in.  I still have a looong way to go before my skills catch up with what my car can already do.

The one on the track at RIR in April was put on by the Shenandoah region of the PCA (Porsche Club of America).  The Southside Speedway event (June) was also the same group.  They list their events on .

It was - except for the walls which sometimes got a little too close for my comfort.  Tongue

Great pics Engelbert!  I've already stolen one for my new profile pic.  Thanks!

Brought my cool new little camera to RIR yesterday, but I must have pushed a wrong button somewhere because none of my runs got recorded.  So.... I'll just have to share this one from the Porsche club autox at Southside Speedway instead.  My fastest run of the day, where I shaved almost two seconds off what I'd been doing earlier.

I was all set to do even better on my next & final run, but instead I hit a cone and got flustered and missed a gate (or three).  Still - I came in laughing instead of beating myself up, so I guess I'm learning on a lot of different fronts.  Smiley

Looks like you'll have a great turnout!  I'm bummed I can't make it.
834  Events / Other Events / PCA HPDE at VIR Sept 24-26 on: June 04, 2011, 02:15:57 PM
The First Settlers Region of the Porsche Club of America is hosting a Drivers Education event at VIR, Sept 24-26 2011.  (The May event filled up VERY quickly, hence the advance notice!)  It is open to all makes and models of cars.

First two days on the South Course, third day is on the full course.  You can sign up for just the first two days if that suits your schedule better.  Having just returned from my first DE experience, I can tell you:  the PCA instructors are great, the track is awesome, and hanging out for three days with fellow drivers is... well, priceless.  Smiley

Info and registration is here on

Most folks stay at the Sleep Inn in Danville, but be aware charges a premium if you reserve through their website.  Best to call the hotel directly and ask for the PCA DE special rate.

Hope to see you there!

My Passport was thinking about it.  I told her it's for Hondas, not Isuzus.  Wink

I gotta say, these photos are awesome.  The clarity is just stunning.  (Better than what the pros took at VIR last weekend.)  Do you do this at all the events?

Looking for inspiration?  Happened to catch an old Top Gear episode tonight, and they had an interesting course laid out for some RC cars:   (first 3 mins or so)

I'm thinking, a Demolition Ball of Death in the final straight could be an exciting new twist.
