E.bert, I was thinking the same thing.  Those tires are no doubt fast, but they definitely spoil the look.  Smiley
777  Pictures and Media / General Pictures and Media / Re: Solo Nats 8-31 on: September 01, 2011, 07:56:09 AM
Excellent!!  Thanks for the news, and getting the pics posted so quickly.

778  Events / Autocross / Re: Solo Nationals live! on: August 31, 2011, 04:44:26 PM
Two days done, and it looks like Donna is still in third place in SSL!   Grin

So now what - is it over for the Tues-Weds folks, or is there more to do there?

779  Events / Other Events / Re: Cars & Coffee - Richmond on: August 31, 2011, 06:43:12 AM
Nominally 8 to 11am.

It's very close to me, so I'll probably stop by early on my way to the monthly PCA breakfast, then again later on my way home.
780  Events / Autocross / Re: Solo Nationals live! on: August 30, 2011, 07:59:17 PM
For the uninitiated, how does a multi-day event work?
Looks like Keath, Donna, and Chris have each had three runs so far.  Is tomorrow's course the same as today's?
781  Events / Other Events / Cars & Coffee - Richmond on: August 30, 2011, 06:04:28 PM
For those in the Richmond area, we now have our own Cars & Coffee event.  Like the others, it's held early Saturday mornings, and any and all makes/models/ages/conditions/etc are welcome.  (Even MR2's.  Smiley

It's a very low-key gathering; everyone just parks together in one area of the parking lot, then we stand around for a couple of hours and look at all the cars and talk shop.  Bring the kids, the dog, whoever or whatever you can fit into your vehicle of choice.

The Richmond C&C is held at the Starbucks just north of the Huguenot Bridge (next to the Eye Institute).
Official street address is 5001 Huguenot Road.

It just got started in late July; it is held at least every other Saturday, but so far it has turned out to be every week (except this past Saturday which was called off due to a little rain).

It definitely WILL be held this Saturday (9/3), which gives you a chance to show up once and find out for sure when the next one is.  Wink

To keep up with the latest news:

This has been a Public Service Announcement.  Hope to see you there!

782  Events / Autocross / Silly questions about the next event on: August 29, 2011, 07:05:00 PM
I have no power so I'm sitting here bored in the dark, thinking deep thoughts about cars & stuff.

And I'm wondering...  why does MyAutoEvents list the next autocross as #8?  August 21 was #6... what happened to #7?   Or is this one of those embarrassing family secrets you're not supposed to bring up?

And then I'm wondering, why does the VMSC calendar describe it as "Autocross #8 for charity"?  Who is the charity and how does our squealing like maniacs around VMP benefit them?  (Unless they plan to sell videos titled "How To Make Your Car Last [Episode 4: Counter Examples]"...)
783  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Nürburgring on: August 27, 2011, 09:22:38 AM
Maybe we should inquire about group rates.   Grin
784  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Nürburgring on: August 26, 2011, 08:15:27 PM
How many laps did you get to do?
And, how did you like the paddle shifter?
785  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Nürburgring on: August 23, 2011, 12:37:04 PM
Wow, you must have been tearing up the track today!  We even felt it back here.   Grin
786  Pictures and Media / Pictures and Media from Events / Re: 8/20/2011 Practice Autocross Media on: August 22, 2011, 08:59:32 PM
Wow, yours is a lot... louder than mine.  Wink

Next time though, maybe you can give me tips on getting off the start faster.

Watching all the videos is fascinating.  Makes me really want one more crack at the course (maybe 5 or 6), I can see a few things I'd definitely change.

Here's my last run - not my fastest, but I hit a cone on that one.  Tongue

Hey Engelbert, how do you say cone in German?  Smiley
788  Results / Autocross / Re: 08/20/2011 Practice Autocross times on: August 22, 2011, 04:27:30 PM
Looks like the raw times only list the first 20 runs?
Bummer, since my best time didn't make it on the list... must have been #21.

Not a big deal of course! - just a practice - times don't matter - etc etc   Wink
789  Pictures and Media / Pictures and Media from Events / Re: 8/20/2011 Practice Autocross Media on: August 20, 2011, 07:42:41 PM
I took a few pics before everyone else showed up.  It was really cool hanging out in the fog for a little while.

I added them to my VMSC FB album, just skip to the end for this morning's photos.

OK just one more post on this...  Smiley

I made a couple of short video clips of the lift in action:

791  General / Technical Help / Re: Tire advice needed on: August 15, 2011, 05:48:42 PM
OK - well I was in a hurry to order today, and I already went with the ES100s.
So don't pick on them too much now!  Wink   We'll find out this weekend how they do.

792  General / Technical Help / Re: Tire advice needed on: August 15, 2011, 05:15:08 PM
Even in the rain?
793  General / Open Forum / Re: Do want! on: August 15, 2011, 03:16:50 PM

This one might be closer... but I don't think it's for sale.
794  General / Technical Help / Re: Tire advice needed on: August 15, 2011, 07:20:37 AM

Don't know yet how much I'll be driving it outside of autox - it gets great mileage and is fun to drive, but not for long distances I think.  For now it sounds like the ES100s are a good bet.

Thanks for the input!
795  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Nürburgring on: August 14, 2011, 06:07:32 PM
That looks cool!!  How many laps are you planning to do?
796  General / Technical Help / Tire advice needed on: August 14, 2011, 02:48:36 PM
What are some good tires to put on a MkI MR2 if you want to stay stock (ES)?   ...AND on a budget...

Current tires are 185/60R14 front, 185/65R14 rear; must be replaced this week.
797  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Dannmar Max Jax lift installation on: August 13, 2011, 08:10:35 PM
Lift is installed and operational!  Couldn't have done it without help, thanks again.

The FB album has been updated with a few more photos.   (By lucky coincidence, there was a Toyota MR2 handy to test it with.  Smiley )

This thing is awesome.

Will do!   Grin

I'm thinking tomorrow afternoon, but that's still tentative.  Gotta find out where/when I can rent a rotary hammer drill.
799  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Dannmar Max Jax lift installation on: August 12, 2011, 03:12:13 AM
The lift?  Or Sabine?   Cheesy
800  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Dannmar Max Jax lift installation on: August 11, 2011, 07:42:49 PM
I've got most of the large pieces assembled now.  Facebook album has been updated with more photos.

I'm hoping to hold the anchor-drilling and install party this weekend...  Smiley
