1  Results / Autocross / Re: May 21 Results on: May 22, 2017, 02:05:27 PM
Are there a provisions in club or SCCA rules for separating a tie?  There has to be something more than alphabetical order, really.  Perhaps consider the second fastest time as the deciding factor.  It's totally unbiased and should work every time (like this happens every weekend).  Honestly, who'd a thought...to the thousandth!!!  Me 'n Jeff were both giving it all we had.  Do we call it a day and both get 2nd place bragging rights?

Wow...tied to the thousandth!!  One list shows my time as 38.403?  What determines the tie breaker?

Great day, fun course, really good people.  Thanks to everybody for a successful weekend.

I have teched many cars with catch cans, some were pretty sketchy.  If you should add one please secure it with something more substantial than zip ties.

Hey Gunny,

I'd like to give it a try as a Co OD.  Can't really nail down a date yet.  We'll talk.  See you on the 26th.

5  General / Classifieds / Price REDUCED 1991 Miata STS on: December 07, 2015, 12:48:37 PM

For Sale: 1991 Miata STS #3
on: September 29, 2015, 04:15:34 PM

BRG with matching hardtop, tan interior, 208,000+ miles, runs great. This car has been my daily driver and autocrosser for many years, then was developed into an SCCA STS racer. It's a lot of fun! Very stable, not particularly fast but will give you all it's got every time out. If you have been running with VMSC over the last few years you have certainly seen my car. We run the BIG yellow #3 and #8 when we compete. Check some of the photo archives, David's photos are great.

The Good Stuff

Lowered with Eibach springs and KYB shocks.
Racing Beat 7/8" front sway bar with adjustable end links.
Racing Beat Urethane bushings in all suspension parts - very stiff.
Boss Frog "Clearview" roll bar...uuhhh...never been used!
BFG Rivals 205/50/15 new for 2015 season.
G-Force performance chip. Helped a little especially in the mid range.
Racing Beat intake and header. WOW! You get what you pay for, these really work.

The Other Stuff

AC removed, brackets, hoses and all other hardware. Didn't work anyway.
Cruise control removed. It was pretty crappy to begin with.
Rear sway bar removed. Allows the rear suspension to work better and it does.
Paint is DEAD. Looks OK when wet or if it has recently been waxed.
The ride is stiff! You'll want to dodge all bumps and holes but you'll never have to fret about kidney stones.
The wheels are old American Racing alloys that are kinda heavy and real square.
The seats are the original leathers with speakers. Real heavy.
The stereo is still there but the door speakers were removed after being abused by Zepplin, ZZ Top, etc.
The power windows work but they are heavy and need to be swapped for manual wind ups.

All in all it's great little car. Often competitive in STS but can't keep up with those 2000lb Miatas. I'm asking $3,000 for one you can get in, drive to the event, race and drive home. A bit more development and this car could kick ass. Can be seen in archive photo files. If interested please call John Peddy @ (804) 937-2685.

7  General Category / Ask the Competition Committee / Re: Rules interpretation on: August 05, 2015, 08:08:26 AM
No really, no tricks. I've been under the impression that "Street" implied full street equipment. After reading through the SCCA Solo rules I did not find anything definitive that applied to STS. "Street Categories" and "Prepared Class" are pretty explicate about what you can or cannot remove.
Thanks,
John

May I gut my Miata (as in no carpets, door panels, ancillary components) and still compete in in STS. If so I need to get to work? Any input is welcomed.

I know there were some classing problems with preregistration. Perhaps some never got straightened out. Hate to sound like a whinner but I think Jeff Chenery and Paul Inskeep should be in STF instead of STS. Lonnie Hawkins has been running ES with his Miata for some time, maybe he was misclassed too.
All around great event, loved the course Engelbert!! My compliments to all the course workers who managed well without the radios. Thanks James for the quick results.

James,
Great job on the quick posting.  Would you please make a couple of changes.  I know, I know it's just gonna mess up everything...but, I was running my wife's car last Sunday.  John Peddy in STS should be in ES with a 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder or you could just list it as "my wife's car" she would be proud. The other Peddy in STS is shown as "Peddy, 245." Don't know how that happened but her real first name is Bailey. Thanks

11  Events / Other Events / Re: Marque Trophies on: January 12, 2014, 08:08:46 AM
So the trophy shop is closed all weekend.  I will be off on Wednesday and can take the plaque then.  I've been in and out of the hospital twice since November and then "home bound" for IV antibiotic therapy.  My surgeon finally released me to return to work and drive a car last week. Finally I feel like regular guy again!!

I went downtown one afternoon, looked all over Cary Street and couldn't find the trophy shop...dumbass. I'll take it to them today...on Grace.  Never was that good of a navigator.

We have finally gotten this little project back on the road; runs pretty good under light to medium throttle. Full throttle gets you a solid whiplash inducing misfire at about 4000rpms and again at about 6000rpms. Through the course of its' resurrection many parts have been replaced just to get it running again; plugs, plug wires/coils, crank position sensor, timing belt and the ECU was replaced by one from another car that was "running great before being rear ended." Anybody out there have experience with these cars. OBD 2 tells me "random misfire"...the misfire is hardly random - happens every time at the same RPM. Any help short of roasting wienies over its glowing embers would be appreciated.

I believe Scott is correct on the time assigned to the CS-Novice #74.  That car was next in line behind yours and it sure looks like your times for the second run were switched.
15  General / Open Forum / Re: Where to have rotors turned ?? on: March 05, 2013, 01:17:58 PM
I've used Cloverleaf Tire and Auto on Turner road near Midlothian Turnpike.  $20 bucks and only took him about an hour to do 2 rotors

That was cool.  I haven't seen that skit in a while.  Raised my daughters on a steady diet of Monty Python...could be why they're little bit twisted. Ya think!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Alex Albus and Bailey Peddy both ran the same WRX.  Bailey probably needed to be in Novice or perhaps DS with Alex.  Could be some kinda weird computer thing or maybe even a typo ( the D lives right next to the S on my keyboard ).  After all she's still listed as Bailey Peeddy...GOSH!

Had a great time regardless of letters.
