Events / Road Rally / New Alfa Computer
|
on: April 10, 2012, 02:18:39 PM

Alfa has designed a new rally computer. The full function computer is called the Elite and the new one seems to have some beneficial improvements. We use a 2003 Elite and it's a sturdy product, but I encourage you to check out the latest version. Need a link? Try this: http://www.rally.cc/#EliteStart . See you at the first checkpoint. -Chuck Edwards

General / Open Forum / VMSC needs a home. Got $1,000?
|
on: April 10, 2012, 02:03:39 PM

VMSC dates from 1950 having been formed by UVA students when sports cars were just becoming popular in the United States. But its never had a home. When I was a lad it met in the Branch House on Monument Avenue and I got accustomed to such impressive surroundings. Meeting in a restaurant is so transitory.
How about buying a place? If 1000 folks can come up with $1,000 we'd have a cool one million dollars. Too unlikely? Well, 100 folks with $1,000 would produce $100,000. Wouldn't that procure a site for a home? It'd be a start.

General / Open Forum / Re: Marian DeBardeleben - old trophies

I knew Fred and Marian in those heady days. What to do with the trophies of another era is a question that all of us have to consider. Trophies are evidence of the achievements of those who have left them and sadly have little value to the next and future generations.
VMSC has no physical home and no place to display them. But they don't memorialize the club. They show the successes of those to whom they were awarded. Nathan, I suggest you keep one or two and give the rest to those who would enjoy the pewter bowls, mugs, or plates. Give them to an organization that can make them available at little or no cost to needy folks.

Events / Autocross / Record the drivers' meeting on Apr 30 at MEP

Betsy and I would like the club's and the OD's permission to video a greeting from VMSC to the Carmarthen (Wales) Motor Club for their 100th birthday. After recording/editing as necessary we'll burn it to a CD which we'll send to CMC for presentation at their banquet celebration in June, 2011.
A little history: Betsy and I were the Course Opening Car for the 2007 Ferrari of North America Rally of the Virginias through 5 states. The rally was developed by members of CMC and they worked the Special Stages. We visited CMC in 2009 and worked their Quinton Stages Rally in Llandovery, Wales, UK. We distributed VMSC pins and decals to the CMC members.
We propose to address the camera with....
Chuck & Betsy: "We're at an autocross of the Virginia Motor Sport Club in Caroline County, Virginia. The members and guests of VMSC wish to offer our congratulations to the Carmarthen Motor Club on its 100th birthday."
Drivers' meeting participants: "Happy 100th birthday, Carmarthen!"

I want to think everyone had a good time. Except for a train getting in the way, and an unexpected small portion of dirt, the rally went smoothly. The final results will be forwarded to the statistician soon and hopefully posted. Thanks for asking and sure hope you can make it to "Down to the Rivah" April 19.
