Bill, you are right about "evolving". I expect the next step will be the rename the  "VMSC Competition and Speed Regulations" to something a little less harsh sounding. Maybe we should change to  "Suggestion for Event Participants".
We might even get some sponsorship funding from advertising. A "Low T" infomercial would fit right in.

There is a Safety Section that lists the requirements by class for roll bars.  Look at 3.3.2 in the Solo Rule Book.
You are not required to have a roll bar in D or E Mod if you have closed car. It is certainly safer to have one. If you are building a "mod tub" car and structure in the roof has been removed I would put one in even if it is not a legal requirement. We have one in our "stock tub" E/M car.
Do you have some details on the car? Did you have it out before?

Hmmm, rollover is a consideration, but before someone goes to a lot of trouble to prove that it won't roll or to modify it so that it can't roll, keep in mind that the primary reason it can't run is that it's a motorcycle and motorcycles are not allowed to run.

Looks like a good beginning for a Mod car.  Just change that "ES" to "EM" and you will have a lot more freedom to develop the car.

Bill, the Board Meeting should have been on Thursday the 1st, before the event so there was no opportunity to officially change these cars.
The Corvette is B/S by Appendix A and the Cadillac is not listed in Appendix A, but it falls into the "catch all" of V8 American Sedans not otherwise listed in ESP.
I'll shoot Paul an email, this shouldn't require Comp Committee discussion.  It really shouldn't require Board discussion.

X/P allows engine swaps and you can modify the trans tunnel. As mentioned the engine compartment/firewall must remain pretty much original.
It's a step up from Street Mod and not quite as open as D/E Mod.
One thing to watch for is that you meet all of the safety rules whether you end up in X/P or E/M.

Just to clarify, I brought "running by class" to the Board as one of the last things I did as 1st Vice President last year. Autocross is a competition that takes place on one or two days. The finishing order in each class is the important part of any particular event.  Year end points and other considerations are secondary to the class finishes for the day. All National events run by class.  It makes for fair competition within each class.

If you reread David's post note that the 5 minutes start when you return to grid. How much time it takes to return to grid is not included. You do not have to be on the start line within the 5 minutes. You have 5 minutes minimum SITTING in grid. This does not mean that you can sit somewhere for a half hour before returning to grid, but if you need extra time we'll try to help. I see that David has added some additional info on this.

We are a local club and we can adjust some rules to suit ourselves, but technically running 3 drivers in the same car is illegal.

There's no  "allowance" for 2 driver cars. In many ways it's considered an advantage. On colder days 2 drivers can get some usable heat in the tires. On hot days the best thing to do is check tire temps after each run and (if necessary) spray the tires to get them down to the correct temperature. An infrared digital thermometer is good for quick checks. Usually you can keep tires at their optimum temps for each run.

Tony, there should be no problem making changes as long as you can do it between runs. Technically, if you can't make a change between runs you could lose a run.  We try to be flexible but we also need to be realistic.
Now, are you allowed gear/sprocket changes or is there a standard ratio that you need to run?  You are the karting guru so I expect you to answer that.

Ben, I understand that the waivers have been signed, but we still need someone who is legally responsible for them to be on site. This is not for something that they might do, it's because there is always the possibility of an accident. It's important that a parent or legal guardian be there.

SSM looks good, but the best thing to do is go through the SM rules and look for anything that might keep you out of the class. Remember that SM (and SSM) builds on less modified classes so follow through the classes listed as pertaining to SSM.

I checked the entry list and the kart was correctly listed as "KM".  How did it get to FM?

Michael Francis should be KM, not FM.  He is shown as 165 and 765 in class results, definitely a KM class kart.  Thanks for posting so quick and great event and course.

Just noticed, his name is spelled differently in each class, guess the computer sees 2 different people. I assume that the KM spelling is correct.

I was wondering if my son could just run unclassified? At the end of the day, I just want him  to have fun.

Tony, unfortunately it's a safety rule, not a classing rule. I don't see where we have any options other than following the rules. If the insurance has been set up for the"JA" legal kart then he could run that. I don't see anything else we can do.

Tony, if he is not old enough (15) to run KM then I don't see how he can run a 125 kart.  We have no leeway on classing underage drivers, we have to follow the rules.  I know he is competent to drive a 125 but unless he meets all rules requirements he needs to run a legal JA kart.  If you see something that I am missing let me know and we can get everything straight, I've been wrong before......
