1  Results / Autocross / Re: Results 1 November 2015 on: November 02, 2015, 06:36:37 AM
Many thanks to everyone who put this event on; that course was a boatload of fun, even though folks like me in the first two heats almost needed a boat to get around it! :p
2  Results / Autocross / Re: Race Results VMSC/BRR challange 10-13-2013 on: October 14, 2013, 11:51:17 AM
<happydance/>

I would love to have run that course in the dry, but then I probably wouldn't have fared as well on the results sheet.

Thanks to all who put on a great event!
3  General / Classifieds / Found on BaT: 1966 Fiat Furgone Mobile Workshop on: July 01, 2013, 12:53:41 PM
Paging Mr. Cooley to the red, white, and green courtesy phone...

Currently featured on Bring a Trailer and selling for ~$5,000 on on eBay is a 1966 Fiat van with an entire dealer's garage crammed into custom-made toolchests.  The pictures show a dreamland of vintage Fiat-specific tooling wrapped in a dealer-liveried vehicle that would be perfect for, say, towing a race-prepped 500.

This was just too wild and exotic to not share it here.  Smiley

4  General / Open Forum / Your Ride Is Here on: May 29, 2012, 08:05:22 AM
It's so... dusty... in here... (sniff)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3Vh53KMPSs

Car nuts and exotics dealers in Austin, TX started an all-volunteer organization called Your Ride Is Here, giving cancer patients rides to and from their treatments.   ...in hot rods and supercars.

It doesn't just improve lives -- it really can save them.  "Missing a treatment, missing a week off because of side effects, your cure rate, or control rate, goes down 20%.  So it's that serious that patients need to be here day after day."  So why not bring them to the hospital in an M5, DB7, Ghost, or Enzo?

5  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: SOON on: May 22, 2012, 06:31:40 AM
You may could fin in a 2.2L flat 6. I got on on a engine stand in my garage.

We only just got the 1.9L running (and by "we" I mean the guys at Bug Haus); all we need is some better intakes and we'll be ready to go.

It might go in the '71 though...  Smiley

7  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: SOON on: May 20, 2012, 08:17:42 AM
I don't see the Ghia listed in Prepared, although it should fall under one of the "Volkswagen NOC" listings.  The problem is that your 1915cc engine doesn't fit in any Prepared class except X/P.  Other options are D or E Mod.  It might fit somewhere in SM.
Gene

Ah, good to know, although given those choices, and the competition already in and around them, I guess I'll be screwed for points. Smiley
8  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: SOON on: May 05, 2012, 12:00:07 PM
What class will it be in?
Gene Cooley

With all its mods, I'm expecting FP, but I haven't looked at a rulebook lately.
9  General / Open Forum / Re: VMSC needs a home. Got $1,000? on: May 01, 2012, 12:39:55 PM
Buy my old house.  $53,000 will drive it away today.  Seriously.

There is a big garage, a driveway that can accomodate four cars, a big backyard, a fieldstone barbecue pit with fieldstone patio and cedar shelter, and the house itself ... is a house.

It's also only a mile's walk from RRC, so if you have mechanical issues during an event, you could cart your ride over there on a trailer and fix it in the garage/driveway at your leisure.

Also, the long driveway and fenced backyard would be ideal for the VMSC trailer.

BUY IT.  YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO.

SOON

For reals, this time.
11  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Relative newbie with a couple questions on: May 01, 2012, 12:35:30 PM
Airbags shouldn't be an issue unless there's any danger that they'd go off in your face while you're running.  If they're disconnected, then you should be fine.  You shouldn't be thinking about slamming into anything anyway.

If you're concerned about the lack of a functional airbag in your car, just install a speaker in your steering column, and tune your radio to a station with a political talk show.

Your tires should have rubber all the way around, but tread isn't a concern.  We have plenty of folks on tires that are intentionally slicks; you can play it off like you're just fitting in with the super-serious.
12  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: VW factory test video on: August 25, 2011, 11:35:08 AM
Yes!  I'd seen that once before, but it's a great video.

Reminds me of that rallycross I ran with THSCC a few years ago... poor Golf... poor plastic undercarriage plate...
13  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Nürburgring on: August 15, 2011, 05:58:22 AM
OK, have fun; I'll be over here crying jealous tears.

Great choice of car.  Grin

15  Events / Road Rally / Re: T5.5 on: July 13, 2011, 05:48:34 AM
Any hope there might someday be a T5.6?

The rally program is a bit stalled-out due to lack of participation, and the Edwardseses are taking some well-deserved time off from holding it all together.  If we can be confident that we can get sufficient workers and participants to make the effort worthwhile, then I look forward to rally flourishing again.

We invest about 700 miles on our cars and 4 or 5 weekends of our time each year we put on the T5, between scouting runs, safety checks, and running pace and chase on the day of the event.  I don't know whether we're over or under the other rallymasters in that respect but the tasks that have to be completed are the same each time.  It's a big deal to make a rally happen, and it's totally worth it when folks come out and have a good time.

I hope to put on many more rallyes in the future, tulips or no tulips.

Lots of activity this morning.

I don't even understand the point of some of these automated spambots.  Not only is the post content way longer than the average forum user's attention span, but they seem to be ... well ... Mad Libs.

At least they're entertaining to read.

17  General Category / Announcements / Spamitty-spam, blunderful spam. on: June 23, 2011, 05:46:16 AM

Some local fora have been the target of a strange advertising/spam campaign where fake accounts post large blocks of apparently random text.  Our fair forum has seen a few of these in the last week.  I will be keeping an eye out for such posts and wielding the Banhammer as needed.  I invite the other admins to join me in glorious anti-junk combat.

this will be my first time out to an autocross event, can i register tomorrow morning?

Yes, you can always register at the event; you just have to get there before we close registration and start the drivers' meeting.

While VMSC was putting on the autocross school, the Shenandoah chapter of the Porsche Club of America held an autocross on the tri-oval at RIR.  Some of our members were there, and I got pictures.
