101  General / Classifieds / Re: 1979 Fiat x1/9 race car on: September 16, 2015, 12:51:09 PM
Wow. If you look under, "Autos and Autosports", I posted the topic "CL racecars". Yours is one I mentioned. Yours is a great deal, but I've almost finished reassembling one that I blew several years ago. You're right, the logbook is a huge selling point!
102  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: CL race cars. on: September 02, 2015, 06:49:25 AM
Also a 914 roller for around $2000.00. With logbook.
103  General / Autos and Autosport / CL race cars. on: September 01, 2015, 08:30:44 PM
A quick search of race cars on CL turned up an IT/C Fiat X1/9 for $2700.00 with trailer, a spec Miata for around $9000.00, a Honda endurance car with a blown motor for $500.00, and a couple of Legends cars. Plenty of quarter milers, and oval stuff also.

Great pictures, thanks for posting. Even saw a hit-n-miss engine in there. There were a load of USCCA cars at SEMA. My favorite was hemi powered Valiant re-badged as a "Violent". Sounds like you did really well, and it looks like a fun series. What are the tire rules?
105  General Category / Ask the Competition Committee / Re: Rules interpretation on: August 05, 2015, 09:57:35 AM
SCCA, (like most sanctioning bodies), will only allow us to do what they say we can. In other words, (from a conversation I had years ago), "Unless they say you can, you can't". I believe we can thank the late, great Smokey Yunick for that.
106  General Category / Ask the Competition Committee / Gene.....you have mail..... on: August 01, 2015, 02:26:55 PM
PM sent, Gene.
107  General / Open Forum / Re: Interested in eventually getting into HPDE on: July 16, 2015, 03:22:24 PM
I'm not sure, but I think anti-freeze is a no-no. I had "water wetter" in my car when it was on the track.
108  General Category / Ask the Competition Committee / Re: Can't make the event on the 19th. on: July 16, 2015, 03:20:31 PM
I'll be there on the 26th. I grabbed the S/P book at the last event to do a little research. Do you need it prior to this weeks event?
109  General Category / Ask the Competition Committee / Can't make the event on the 19th. on: July 16, 2015, 09:18:41 AM
I won't be able to help with tech at the autocross this weekend, due to a prior commitment.
110  General Category / Ask the Competition Committee / Re: Tech Inspectors Needed for VMP 6/28 on: June 24, 2015, 06:23:27 AM
Gene, if Bernard is running, (and you see him prior to the event), please send that blue notebook with him. It'll help with classing.

I'll be there.
112  Events / Autocross / Re: NASA at VMP. Cancelled? on: June 21, 2015, 07:43:18 PM
That's what I assumed, but their event was still listed.
113  Events / Autocross / NASA at VMP. Cancelled? on: June 21, 2015, 07:50:34 AM
I was just on MAE and saw that NASA had an event at VMP on the 28th. I'm assuming they cancelled. Or are we running together? Just curious.
114  General / Classifieds / Re: Take off tires on: June 13, 2015, 07:15:31 AM
You could do a burn out until Rapture in a rear drive car and not achieve any front camber:). Pretty sure there was no rule against it when I did it in the 90's.
115  General Category / Ask the Competition Committee / Re: MEP event. on: June 12, 2015, 07:21:02 AM
Oops! Yep, it's this weekend I can't attend. Good thing I didn't plan on running!
116  General / Classifieds / Re: Take off tires on: June 11, 2015, 07:25:21 PM
When I drove a car that I could dial a lot of negative camber into, rotating front to rear was not an option. I had the tires shaved with more rubber taken off towards the inside, shaping them somewhat like a cone. Since they were directional, I simply didn't rotate them. Until the end of the year and I was too cheap to buy new tires......
117  General Category / Ask the Competition Committee / MEP event. on: June 11, 2015, 07:21:01 PM
Gene, I won't be able to make this event. Just a heads up for tech.
118  Results / Autocross / Re: Results 31 May 2015 on: June 02, 2015, 06:47:57 PM
That's how it was all those years ago. If a competitor didn't work or have someone work for them, (without the permission of the OD or other club official), they had DQ beside their name. No times posted. But like many other rules that aren't needed with any real frequency, we become a bit complacent and assume everyone will play nice. Mention it at the drivers meeting and enforce it.

Nice pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Waaaaaaay back, (as of 1975 anyway), we had folks volunteer to work the course. This was when we ran 10 car heats, and ran in numeric order. Once cars 1-10 were on their last run, cars 11-20 started to grid themselves, without having to be instructed. There would be a very brief break to change course workers, then we were off again. And we ran 100+ cars back then too. Once we started having problems getting course workers, ( and somewhere around here we began 20+ car heats), we went to a "work the heat after you ran" concept, with the last heat assisting with course take down. The first heat was generally staffed by volunteers or "hardship" issues where someone had to leave early. The last technique was to work the second heat after you ran. !st works 3rd, 2nd works 4th, etc. This was to allow time to swap tires, grab lunch or whatever. We did have a policy of being DQ'd if you did not work, and hadn't spoken with an OD, or club official regarding why. Trading or volunteering to work for someone was allowed.
121  General Category / Ask the Competition Committee / Re: Comp Committee Notes for 5/31 on: June 02, 2015, 06:30:17 AM
Gene, I've sent you a PM regarding the 5-31 event.
122  General / Classifieds / Re: Feeler: Hankook RS3 V2 235/45 17 (10 runs and 1200 street miles) $425 OBO on: April 29, 2015, 07:20:25 AM
Back in the '90s when my H/S Chevy Vega gave many faster classes a fit. Right tires, right suspension changes, a crap load of negative camber, and a relatively strong engine. The Civics were bad enough, but once the Mini's came to H/S it was all over, and I had already had the Camaro. Scott Hoffman drove the Vega once. I agree with your opinion, that there should be a "spec" tire. It'll never happen because of a reluctance to make them in enough different sizes. I pulled the Camaro out of Street for that reason. I can't find "the" street tire in a size that will work on that car.

SCCA should follow the NHRA on "Stock" classes. Run on anything, (and I mean ANY thing), you want. Street tires, slicks, all weather radials....as long as they don't have any cord showing. This "street" tire rule will escalate over the next few years or until the tire manufacturers decide they're not making enough money on a "purpose-built" street tire.

Oh boy. A new tire war brewing. This is gonna get expensive, folks.
