1  General / Classifieds / Re: Feeler: Hankook RS3 V2 235/45 17 (10 runs and 1200 street miles) $425 OBO on: April 28, 2015, 08:34:43 AM
I am just seeing if there is any interest, if not I'll run these all season and learn the new car. Its been fun having stiff competition. Most fun I've had in years. Smiley

Next year, if I like how things go, I'll buy the right tire, shocks and rear bar. This is my daily and it's a great car. And I don't have to change tires. (Unless I want to. Smiley)

I ran 710s when everyone fast was on Hoosiers. It's my MO.

From what I've read, they are worth 3-6 tenths on a 60 second course.

Anyone interested in Hankook RS3 V2 235/45 17 (10 runs and 1200 street miles) for $425 OBO? I'm considering changing to the new Bridgestones. New price was $568+shipping from Tire Rack about a month ago.

The re71r makes HS civics faster than SS GT3s. Smiley

Hahaha ouch!
6  General / Open Forum / Re: Modifications allowed in a class on: April 20, 2015, 03:19:29 PM
A simple list for street clas is as follows, in my order of importance:

  • Tires and wheels- pick up a set of Bridgestone RE71R's in a size recommended for your stock wheels or 15" if legal for your car. Do not overtire the car. If you are on 14x6 wheels, you can upsize to 15x6 for better tire sizes (you can +/- 1" in diameter, but retain stock width)
  • Swaybar - You can change out one bar from stock. Miatas usually respond best to a bigger bar in front. Miata.net link probably references the best options.
  • Alignment - good info on miata.net autocross forums.
  • Shocks - Koni single adjustables (best bang for buck)
  • Other mods - drop in air filter in stock airbox (K&N or similar), cat back exhaust

James,
I was looking at our/my STX class and it seems the best time posted there was from a Mitsubishi EVO that is classed as a STX, I believe those cars should be classed as STU?  That would put me in the number 2 spot behind Travis ..... I got some work to do there! Thoughts?

Best regards,
MikeDe

Yes that EVO will be classed in SM. Thanks for pointing that out.

With you level of prep, you should compare yourself to the CS cars. Smiley

James, why are you moving that Evo to SM instead of STU? I teched that car and told him STU.

David

If this is the same car.....it is beyond STU.

9  General / Open Forum / Re: Roger Garrett on: May 05, 2014, 02:26:04 PM
I just heard the sad news. For those who didn't know him, Roger was a long time VMSC regular and all around nice guy. He was at all of the first events I attended in the late 80's and was very active until his health worsened a couple years ago. RIP Roger you will be greatly missed!

13  General / Technical Help / Re: 2.5 Boxster with exhaust class question on: April 12, 2014, 05:16:48 PM
Looks like B Street (BS). It would be C Street R (CSR) if on R compound tires.

Boxster (986 & 987, non-S)

14  Results / Autocross / Re: Reaults from 3-30-14 on: March 30, 2014, 07:00:29 PM
Maxima class issue my be my fault, it's been a while since my last autocross and I wasn't aware of any class changes. I was SM the last time I ran and assumed SM FWD would apply.
I'll go over classification and reclass myself for next event if nessicary.

Had a great time today, see you all next event.

Your car is eligible for SMF and is hardly misclassified. You can run in either SMF or SM, but the PAX is friendlier in SMF.

That looks more controllable than I expected. Sorry I missed it guys. Had to babysit my house while it was getting new windows.
18  Results / Autocross / Re: Race results VMP 8-11-2013 on: August 12, 2013, 05:03:07 AM
That would explain the 83.0 on my second run. I did see a 66 on the display. Didn't get the correlation before.
19  Results / Autocross / Re: Race results VMP 8-11-2013 on: August 11, 2013, 07:52:44 PM
Had a great time today. Really enjoyed the course.

FYI - Looks like Tony Todd (NCS) may have been credited with someone else's time.

His 66 was 10 or so seconds faster than all of his other runs.
20  Events / Autocross / Re: Need info on car class rules on: July 17, 2013, 08:05:56 AM
I just bought a 04 Miata a few months ago and brought it out to the AutoX this last Sat. I'm somewhat familiar with the VMSC classing (SCCA rules), but I'm having a tough time finding any rules about what modifications can be done on a car to be considered for a this class or that class.

In a nut shell, I'm trying to run in stock class, but I would like to know what things I'm allowed to modify while staying in the same class (i.e. tire compound, size, minor engine stuff, etc.). I would also like to learn about rulings for other classes as well. I would like to add a oil cooler, and a aftermarket driver's seat eventually.

Thanks!

If you want to stay in stock (street next year), you will not be able to change the seat or add the oil cooler. Looks like the engine mods section is page 78-79 for stock. I couldn't find any allowance for the oil cooler, and if it is not specifically allowed, it is not allowed. Good thing for your car for next year is it is possibly moving from CS to ES, per the proposed street class listings.

I kinda like most of it. Never could afford to keep fresh r comps on the car any way.

Speaking of which, we missed #23 on Sunday....  ever going to pick up your trophy?   Wink

I'm trying. Looks like I'll miss the next one due to the DC Pro. With all these rules changing on the horizon, I'm kinda glad not to have bought a car for a stock class yet. Hope to be at the next one after the 9th.
