1  Events / Other Events / Re: WDCR Looking for Workers for Their Final Series of PDX's in 2017 on: August 20, 2017, 07:29:45 AM
Thanks Gunny!  (Shoulda checked the schedule first.)
2  Events / Other Events / WDCR Looking for Workers for Their Final Series of PDX's in 2017 on: August 17, 2017, 03:56:35 PM
The Washington DC Region is hoping that some VMSC members that are also SCCA members might be interested in working their final PDX events for 2017.  In particular, they are looking for volunteers to work the September 16-17 event at Dominion Raceway.  Volunteers don't need to be experienced as WDCR will train them in whatever specialty they may be interested in, e.g., corner worker, grid, T&S, Tech, etc.  WDCR has a worker program that allows someone to work three PDX events and receive one free PDX day at the track (Dominion Speedway, Shenandoah Circuit, or Jefferson Circuit).

If you're not interested in PDX days, you can work one day or both days if you like and receive other goodies.  Please check out this link for more information.

Just for info, since I've been down in the Atlanta Metro area, I've worked the SCCA's Track Night in America program at Atlanta Motorsports Park for the past 3 years.  Met plenty of new friends and had some fun doing it.  Working a track event can be fun!

3  Results / Autocross / Re: Street Tire Class on: March 21, 2017, 04:14:33 PM
I too am interested in whether or not VMSC runs a Street Tire class like ODR and BRR.  It's one of our more popular classes as any Solo class allowed to run R-compounds/slicks may run in the Street Tire class on DOT approved street tires with a thread wear rating of 200 or greater.  All the Street Tire competitors are PAXed using their base class PAX to determine the  actual points allocated per event.

There are some exceptions such as FSAE, all the kart classes, all the CAM classes, and SSR that cannot participate in the Street Tire class.  The big question for ODR's 2017 season is whether or not to allow HCR (Heritage Class Race) participate in the Street Tire Class.  (BRR does allow HCR to run in the street tire class.)

Here's a link to Roger Johnson's latest version of his Solo Course Design presentation version 5.3.  This one is current as of 2016.
5  General / Autos and Autosport / Old Dominion Sports Car Club on: October 28, 2016, 11:35:07 AM
Does anyone remember the Old Dominion Sports Car Club?  I believe that it was based either in Northern Virginia or the Richmond area.  Someone found an old car badge from the club and asked if anyone knew about the club's history.  Thanks!
6  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Need Corner Workers for Events at Dominion Raceway on: April 24, 2016, 04:41:47 PM
As you may have heard by now, Dominion Raceway did not pass their SCCA track  safety inspection.  There are several safety items that need attention plus the track needs to finish their paving of both the track and paddock area. Their track worker force is all but non-existent.  All scheduled events have been placed on hold pending Dominion Raceway completing the required actions and passing the SCCA safety inspection.

For those that volunteered to help at the PCA event at the end of the month or the SCCA Track Night in America, thank you; however these events have been overtaken by the track's failure to pass the safety inspection.

According to Dominion Raceway, they still intend to to advertise for individuals to become part of their worker staffing for future events.  Once the track publishes their worker requirements, I'll post the info here on the forum.  I'm sure that Dominion Raceway realizes that they need depth in the number of workers they train so there will also be enough workers to staff an event.  Since most of VMSC's members live close to the track, it might be an easy way to see the events while picking up some extra money for thier auto-x/race/rally car.

Thanks again to those that volunteered!
7  General / Autos and Autosport / Need Corner Workers for Events at Dominion Raceway on: April 18, 2016, 12:40:33 PM
Hi, most of you know me as the solo chair for Old Dominion Region.  I've been contacted by various sources to see if any VMSC members would like to volunteer as corner workers for some upcoming events at Dominion Raceway.  If you have ever worked as a corner worker be it for the SCCA, NASA, IMSA, or other racing organization, we could use your volunteer assistance to fill the need for one of the following three venues.  If you can help, please contact Greg Smith ( directly.  Thank you.

1) The First Settlers Region of the Porsche Club of America has an upcoming event at Dominion Raceway (just north of Richmond off I-95 at Thornburg, VA) on the weekend of April 29th through May 1st.  Here's an excellent opportunity to see a great race at the new track while getting paid for your efforts.  If you can't make all three days of the events, don't let that hold you back, as workers are needed all weekend long.  For those of you that think "well, it's been a long time since I did this", don't let that hold you back.  We have some on-line training and will try to arrange a quick refresher course before the event.  Please let us know if you can work this event!

2) Washington DC Region (WDCR) has a Track Night in America (TNiA) event scheduled for May 10th at Dominion Raceway.  This is an excellent opportunity to renew your Corner Worker skills plus drive the new track during the parade laps session (if you like).  Although SCCA members with some Corner Worker or Club Racing experience are preferred, this is an excellent opportunity to have the SCCA pay you to work the event and essentially pay for your SCCA membership.  Since all the TNiA events are scheduled on the 2nd Tuesday of each month for May, June, July, and August, it's a great opportunity for some of our "seasoned" veterans to take advantage of their relaxed schedules while earning money in the process.  Please contact me for more info.

3) WDCR has a PDX scheduled at Dominion Raceway on May 28th and 29th. WDCR has a unique volunteer worker program that features work 3 days and get 1 day of PDX FREE (and I expect they will have gas cards available as well).  Planning for this event is far enough in advance that aspiring Corner Workers can gain some experience working the prior TNiA events at Dominion Raceway.  Please let me know if you're interested!  Thanks again!
