Shane you beat me to it.....Justin's point synopsis ... I have read this too many times!
27  General / Open Forum / Re: Dyno Day on: March 05, 2016, 05:00:49 PM
Had an awesome time at Dyno Day.  Thanks David and everyone else who put this together.  Got to see and hear approximately 5000 horses (total) running down Laburnum! I think I may have made the least hp at 112hp and 104tq (top speed 114mph) all which I am thrilled with.  Stock my car had approx 90whp.....26 years and many miles ago.  I'll take it! My son and I have put many hours in this thing over the winter (so did Jeff and Audie before me) and we got 22 more than stock.  That's 9 more horses and 2 ftlbs more than my estimation.  Good Isht!

Do y'all smell that? Because I smell a bet involving a large chain with a huge BMW pendant.
29  General Category / Ask the Competition Committee / Re: Older tires and classing STS vs CSP on: March 02, 2016, 07:46:00 AM
We can close this one.  I just got off the phone with Tire Rack (again) and they now believe they will be able to get them to me in time.  I have been following the website daily for the last week......and saw that the "due in warehouse" date had been moved up. I decided to call them to get the story.  I went ahead and ordered them, so I have now committed to the RE-71R, they should be here just in time for the season to start!!
30  General Category / Ask the Competition Committee / Re: Older tires and classing STS vs CSP on: March 02, 2016, 05:40:16 AM
Yeah, I have read the rules. I just didn't want to buy a lesser tire if I didn't have to.  Thanks for the replies never hurts to ask.
31  General Category / Ask the Competition Committee / Older tires and classing STS vs CSP on: February 29, 2016, 02:31:47 PM
Comp Committee:

Question:  I would like to run STS all season for points but my tires will not be available until April.  Will you allow me to run in STS until the new tires arrive?

Plea: I purchased the "Chenery" 1990 Civic SI at the end of the 2015 season.  I attempted to order tires from TireRack, Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R, but the website says they will not be in the warehouse until March 11th.  I called them and they advised me that it would likely be April before they will be filling today's orders.  The car currently has older Toyo Proxes R1R that have a treadware rating of 140 stamped on the sidewall.  However, It is pretty well documented that Toyo simply changed the stamping in the last few years to abide by the 200 treadware rule (same tire new stamp) This rule kicks me out of STS and into CSP with the older Proxes.  The new Bridgestones will be more competitive than the used/old Proxes, but I also understand that the rules are the rules.

Kevin,
I just spoke to David and am going to give up one of my spots for you.  The headache of getting two cars there is just too much (plus we can't get a sitter).  So David please remove one of mine and add Kevin's chump car... Looking forward to it!

Thanks
33  General / Open Forum / Re: Machine shop near Richmond, need to polish a crank on: February 13, 2016, 07:37:49 PM
Paul,
There is a small machine shop on the corner of Hungary and Mountian Rd.  I have never used them but did call to get info about building the original 283 V8 in my 57 Chevy.  They were very knowledgable and seemed to genuinely care about what they were doing and their customers.  The guy spoke to me for probably 15 minutes and then said it would be more economical to just buy a 350 block and keep the 283 on the shelf.  It's called Laurel Automotive Parts and Machine....again I don't know their work and have never used them, but thought I would throw it out there.  They have been around for 20 years or so.  I am sure someone else has a better first hand suggestion.

Best,
Mike D

Thanks to all for your well wishes and comments.  The van is officially totaled.  I managed to persuade the ins. company to total the van before it even went to a body shop.  The estimate was low, but I guess after me worrying them to death for 2 weeks, they decided to total loss the vehicle.  My wife is still in pain her shins are still black and blue.  The kids have a few deep bruises as well.  All considered we are okay.  So thankful that God took care of my family!

Justin,
How many coats of clear did you have on it and how did you go about wet sanding with the 1200, I am worried about going too deep on the Civy.  I too have lots of orange peel.  Also curious .... how do you get the pics to post in the post?
Thx

Here are a few pics.  My wife was driving down the road and an elderly lady was at a stop sign and pulled right out in front of my wife.  Luckily, she was running about 35mph, our minivan t-boned hers.  The elderly lady graciously admitted fault at the scene and subsequently to her insurance agency. I think my wife's shins may have been shattered if not for the floor airbags.  Looks like her legs flew up into the dash. God is great!!!

My wife was in a decent accident today in our 2015 Town and Country 12K miles.  I have a feeling they will try and fix the van as opposed to "totaling" it.  Driver/passenger/leg airbags deployed. I think I would rather them "total" it so I know the car is as good as new.  She was with all three little ones.  Katie (wife) is beat up pretty bad, kids are okay except for car seat bruising etc.  We had everyone checked out and everyone is okay.  God is great!  If they try and fix it I want it done right.  I want every clip/chip/scratch and body gap fixed.  I want it back .... better than new.  I need suggestions for elite body/engine shops in the Richmond/Fredericksburg area.  I started the vehicle several hours after the accident (at the wrecking yard) and swear it was knocking.
39  General / Open Forum / Dyno Day 2016? on: January 10, 2016, 06:49:56 PM
I think I have seen in years past that there has been some sort of Dyno Day early in or before the season.  Is this something that we are doing this year?  Just noticed I have graduated to a "Jr. Member" yet another accomplishment!
40  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Hit a deer in the Miata at 50-60mph on: January 03, 2016, 06:38:50 PM
Justin,
Looks great! My dad and I had a similar type of booth set up when I was a kid/teen  Two things that might help.  A moisture filter on the compressor (which you may have already) always helped us.  We made an inline one with PCV pipe with end caps and fittings on each end.  We filled the PVC pipes with tampons (I know ... But it worked..you really need another inline filter downstream to keep lint out.  Another step that helped was to wet the floor.  You can use a hose with a fine sprayer, or use an old crappy paint gun filled with water to dampen the floor before you paint the car.  That kept the lint and everything else on the floor and out of the paint.  I no longer have access to any sort of "booth" as you can see from my user pic....I just find an empty field now days....it turned out "okay" for a patch job, in a field.

All,
I am just curious as to when we will get a flavor of the 2015 points.  This was my first season autocrossing for nearly the whole season.  I read Justin's old post on how it is done but am anxious to see how the fight panned out, not for me per se, but I know it was a competitive season.  I am more interested to see how it panned out for the more experienced drivers!  I am having withdrawals already...

Justin,
Glad you are okay...glad it worked out the way it did.  You may have swerved and done much worse if you had time to react.  Maybe it is the season but I have this vision of you and Paul digging up parts in the Miata bone yard.  Seeing what kinds of parts you can harvest.  The scene cuts to the Miata on the lift during a thunderstorm.  You have a labcoat on and Paul is hunched over gazing at the Miata thru one eye...from the shadows... (iin black and white of course) Lightening strikes and the car starts....ITS ALIVE...ITS ALIVE....."Miatastien"

Pat, there is a local used tire shop near me that I have reached out to for tires on occasion.  I remember him slipping up and admitting that he would get the used tires in bulk for about $5 a piece.  I will try and stop by there to see if he would give you a deal for used tires and if so will put you in contact with him.  I know you gave a range in the post but can you spell out specifically which sizes will work for you? So that I can ask him.
