1  General / Technical Help / Anyone understand NASA's AutoX classing? on: September 02, 2015, 02:08:48 PM

What a system these guys have developed!  I think I have my points figured out, but I'm curious how they adjust your time to get to their version of PAX.  SCCA's multiplier is pretty straight forward, anyone know how NASA uses the point system?

Cheers,
2  Events / Autocross / Re: Patriot Course Circuit Cross Sept 5th on: August 10, 2015, 07:20:50 PM
It's pretty awesome that NASA can basically host a time trial on the Patriot Course for $85!  Gripfest was created by a few local car nuts a few years ago because there were no affordable track days, and the chance to take a few autocross-style runs at NCCAR for about $100 was pretty extraordinary.  And, it turns out, visionary: TSCC was inspired to do similar events at Academi, and it looks like NASA was paying attention, too.

Would be awesome if VMSC could hold similar events at Dominion Raceway Smiley  I just hope Dominion Raceway is affordable enough and safe enough to do it.  I really worry about autocrossers hitting high-speed tracks in autocross cars with very little (no) safety equipment, no instructors, and drivers used to driving 10/10 all the time.  Hard to tell yet what they're planning at Dominion, but from the early photos, it looks like a place where roll cages and HANS may be required.

I've run this event years ago.  You're absolutely right about the danger of approaching it like an Autocross and driving 10/10s, unlike track events you can't ease into it. You have a start light, a drag start and you're off. The elevation changes on the patriot course don't help. That being said its a blast and they do a great job of running it.

If for whatever reason James passes on them I'll take them.

Thanks,

Has VIR relaxed the roll bar requirements for Boxsters, or was this just hyperfest?  I thought they required a straight roll bar extension for 986 series, top closed, and 2" clearance to the broomstick.

I'm still worried about wrecking and this is just... WOW.  How did he manage to spin on the straight, what happened?

He doesn't know.   I think he just tried to point and pulled the wheel, or maybe he overreacted getting close to the grass.  Who knows, thankfully I was in a Boxster and not in a faster car that would have gained on him more!

I was wondering what your car was doing at the Sleep Inn in Danville.  Looks like they love their slaloms, nice run!

I'm in the wrong class and its all my fault.  I should be B Street, not C Street.  I' m not sure why I decided to change my class this year. Sorry for the confusion.  I was wondering how I got 6th.

I feel better already. Still very nice driving yesterday!

David

Likewise!  Hopefully I can trim some time off and I'll at least give you a run for your money before you take that 2nd place street trophy away from me.

I daily drive on my RS3's and Rivals all year.  Snow, ice, rain, below freezing etc.  Just make sure you don't let anyone borrow your car in those conditions.
11  General / Open Forum / Re: getting started: minimum requirements? on: February 21, 2015, 06:13:29 AM
Ridding along with Gunny every run is a great idea...remember to fill your pockets with fishing weights beforehand. Kidding of course, you should definitely catch a ride with him though, he was my instructor during last years autocross school I learned a lot.

Welcome to the club!  I started last year so I'm no expert but I can certainly show you around. When you get to your first event find me (I'm in the blue and white boxster ), I can walk the course with you and make sure you get registered, tech, etc. it's a very laid back group, you'll be hooked.
13  General / Open Forum / Re: Tires for the 2015 season on: January 18, 2015, 02:54:36 PM
So my rear tires arrived today! So no worries I'm legal for stock with the treadwear. I can put 200 treadwear on all four corners (rivals up front from last year).

Cant wait till the first event for 2015. I'm going to try and do more tidewater events this year also.
So many goals! 2:15 on VIR, beat Ricardo, Marc, and Stu just to name a few.

Gunny

Looks like we have conflicting goals!  Can't wait for the first event!

Looks like this sub has been dead for awhile, are there no longer any events in the area?  I'd love to try it out

I'll check this weekend...if it's mine do I get kicked out of street class for an illegal weight reduction haha

I heard that we're thinking about not counting the tidewater event.  Is that true?

Are we planning on posting the season standings one more time before the end of the year?

Thanks guys

Did anyone get a picture of my exclusive interview?  I need to let everyone know how famous I am.

I just ordered 10 magnets and will pick them up tomorrow.  If you want one let me know, they charged me $4 so you can give me $4 or 2 hotdogs.  If you want stickers or anything let me know and I'll have them made.

What size decals can you get? I was thinking about getting some for my karts. I was thinking something in a 6"x6" size?

Any size you want, just let me know the size and quantity.  My guess is they'll be around 3 bucks, I'm ordering everything through banner express and I'll pass along the just my cost to whatever you guys want.

If someone sends me the VMSC logo I can get magnets made up in-case anyone wants to represent VMSC at the event.  I might be able to turn it around for this Sunday.
22  Events / Autocross / Re: Oct 19th TSCC Autocross a Points autocross for VMSC? on: October 06, 2014, 06:59:34 AM
Shoot. I have a wedding, was this event on the calendar at the beginning of the year?  I'm not sure how I screwed this up.  Its a great event if you can make it
23  Events / Autocross / Re: Oct 19th TSCC Autocross a Points autocross for VMSC? on: September 27, 2014, 05:58:41 AM
My vote would be no. Back to back weekends and being a ways away is a 1-2 punch.

Yea Stu I'm with ya on the no vote.
I'm probably going to make the event. With that being said I feel it would be unfair to have it count as a points event for our championship for numerous reasons.
Anyhow the challenge event is really fun! Those Tidewater folks really bring out the big guns for this event and as in most events at acu4 its really fun.

Gunny

It is a great event, I went last year. It doesn't get any better than that location

How'd the meeting go?  Any verdict on the event?
25  Pictures and Media / Pictures and Media from Events / Re: Media from 9-21 autocross at RIR on: September 25, 2014, 05:35:42 AM
Great pics, had a lot of fun even if I didn't go that fast.  I love the variety of cars that come out!

I had spent most of Saturday in the garage getting the car ready as it was due for an oil change, which of course I spilled all over the exhaust when filling it making for a nice smoky ride there.  It's always fun seeing smoke billowing out of the back of your car in the rearview mirror, especially when they're known for catching on fire.  Then I had to troubleshoot an electrical issue that was causing half of the motor to stop firing intermittently.  Fix for that was to just unplug some stuff, who needs a cat converter temperature ecu anyway?  Those crazy Italians decided that one engine management system wasn't enough, so they put in two.  I'm guessing that because they're so reliable they figured why not double the stuff to go wrong.  Makes troubleshooting easier at least, just swap stuff side to side until the problem switches sides on the engine.

No problems on Sunday other than the guy behind the wheel, though.  The car had more in it but I couldn't keep the back end in check when I pushed it hard and a missed shift on my last run didn't help.  Hopefully I can make it out next month!

That new exhaust sounds amazing by the way, nice work!  If you ever want someone to drive it around the track so you can hear it let me know...hey it was worth a shot
