Thanks to everyone who did so much work to make this event happen! Great fun on a challenging but also fun course, even in a BIG car!

Thanks for the quick results and a fun course! You may want to verify, if possible, whether my 4th run was really clean. I certainly hope the results are correct (clean) but the announcer said "cone in the Chicago box and my wife's video shows a worker running to at least check a cone before the video pans towards the last corner . . . I'll be glad to accept the time  :-)

Here is my fastest raw time (run 4). Results say "clean" but announcer indicated cone in Chicago Box. Maybe it was a wiggle? Time was 53.869.

In any case great event and fun course even with a big car.

Thanks Dave for taking and sharing great pictures.

Video of my fastest run:

FYI per Race Technololgy DL1 wheel speed data minimum speed was about 20 mph in the tight corner near grid and 25 just before the finish. Top speed was about 67.

Have fun driving Dave's ESP Camaro at Nats, especially on Sam Strano's course since his are usually a lot of fun for both big and small cars.

Here is a link to my fastest raw run.

I had a great time . . . but actually not good enough for top PAX. The results have my C Mod car running in SS and Bernard Cooley running in CS. I like the PAX factors and I'm sure Bernard does also . . .  But  Wink

I didn't realize you were in one of the Formula cars.  Sorry for the confusion!

No problem. I guessed that you didn't realize what car it was (yellow formula ford). Smiley

FYI I think I found the cause of the power loss on the 4th and 5th runs. Piece of silicone rubber in what is called an air correction jet above the secondary emulsion tube in the mandated FF1600 two barrel weber carb. It apparently kept the secondary carb barrel from either opening or having fuel.

Also did some other stuff to basically "try everything" since it is rather hard to test a formula car on the street. Sad

Bernard is correct. Keep in mind that for a road race FF 1600 (no aero) where they almost always have hot race tires and very few bumps 2 g is common using sophisticated data acquisition. Way back in 1985 Road and Track recorded 1.28 g with a Swift DB-1 FF1600. Tires have come a looong way since 1985. My tires were brand new Hoosier 25B racing slicks.

FYI the car with driver weighs a little over 1100 lbs and the floor, including driver's rear end, is less than 2 inches above the pavement. HP is about 114. I easily hit the rev limiter for a couple of seconds before the 180 at the far end (about 68 mph).

Absolutely great course even though my car acted up on the 4th and 5th runs. (time to do some overdue maintenance on the carb, etc.

FYI According to my MaxQData I saw 1.77 G's on the loop on my 3rd run. I think it was the second "pass" near the grid side of the loop. Yes, fresh Hoosier 25B slicks work well on a hot day.

Question: Do any of you use MaxQData? If so, do you ever have runs that show about 10 seconds shorter than actual at VMSC? Many of mine do but I've only run it at VMP.

No video this time. Mounting my camera on a tall mount to bodywork apparently caused too much camera movement (think "crack the whip").

Thanks again for a great event and course!

FYI the cars/drivers which beat Bernard all have years of A Mod Nationals experience including National Championships. We are talking SERIOUS and frequently big bucks competitors who have been at the A Mod game for years, or even decades. For Gene's car to do so well is significant. For Bernard and Gene to drive so well under what may have been wetdry conditions is something they should both feel really good about.

Bernard Cooley trophied (4th) in A Mod at Nationals!!! Grin

In at total of 6 runs each over two days it looks like Bernard had one first run dnf (spin?) and no cones and Gene had one bad first run with cone. 10 clean fast runs out of 12 for the car!!!

I can hardly wait for videos and stories!!! Grin

Here is a GoPro Wide video of my fastest run. Camera was tilted. Poor start plus serious oversteer late in run.

ENJOYED the event. Thanks VMSC for all the work you do to put on these events!

Video from my CM FF 1600. Time was 55.042. First autox (or any driving event) in 2 years. 3rd run. Camera is GoPro Wide. Audio setting was wrong which hopefully is why the pushrod 4 with a 7K redline sounds more like a high reving motorcycle.
