651  General / Open Forum / racing slick storage on: December 06, 2009, 05:50:17 PM
Just a quick question
I have a garage in which I can store my Hoosier slicks. The Garage does not have heat. Should I store my tires in the house. Also I have read that slicks should be bagged. It that true?

Guy's, Gal's, Racers, Spectators, Ride Alongers, and last but not least the event staff!

Thanks for a great and fun season! Being that this was my first season I can honestly say thanks to all! I learned so much about my car and how to drive it because I was around people that love this sport and were happy to share their knowledge! I hope as I get more experience I can do the same for the new Auto-X'er.  If you go back over my season and look at my placings each week compared to my last race you can see how I got better every event!
I remember the first race. My foot was shakin so bad on the clutch I thought I was going to stall the car at the start  Cheesy (Good thing I had 400 HP and lucky I only had to shift once!) Oh and I got the rookie trophy on that race! What fun that was. Then I remember the second race, John H kinda took me under his wing and did a walk thru with me. He gave me information and feedback to questions that made me faster! Wow cool stuff. Then I got to ride along with him in his vette (you can prolly still see my finger prints on his door handle, I thought I was going to rip that thing out!) I can go on and on but really all I wanted to say is a simple thanks!
I had a great time this season and I look forward to running and being a part of VMSC next season.

Thanks,

Robert Harrison

655  General / Open Forum / What do you do in the autocross off season? on: October 17, 2009, 09:27:13 PM
Before I did any auto-x I sim raced alot. A whole lot!!! Anyhow it's starting to get dark early and starting to get cold. So today I dusted off m good ole simulator, fired up iRacing and did some laps at silverstone in a prototype car! I forgot how much fun sim racing is. Anyhow here is a shot of my simulator! ECCI Wheel with all the bells and whistles (http://ecci6000.com/6000_wheel_01.htm)! a cockpit made out of PVC pipe with a Honda seat! I also have some butt Kickers (http://www.thebuttkicker.com/) to simulate bumps and going over rumble strips! A big ass monitor and I have a shifter I can add to it. I use paddle shifter most of the time. This along with iRacing is as real as it gets without being real. All I'm missing are the g forces and I can crash a million dollar car without any worries!
Any other sim racers out there?

Hey dont forget me, here is a vid of my best run!
If ever you guys get asked for a ride along and you don't feel like it send them my way! I like scaring them for a bit! I laugh and talk during my runs! It's fun for me to watch them back.  Grin . placing is not to much a concern for me! I just like to go fast and have fun. (who don't know that!) and if I can give a ride along to get them hooked then so be it (I did my little part in promoting the sport). (the more weight the better! LOL)

To all,
I had a great time! The course really drove different than it walked! (to me anyways) So I learned a lot today and had a blast trying to keep up. I'm uploading pictures now and its going to take a while. I will post a link tomorrow.

Dave,
Welcome aboard.
I just started auto crossing this year and it has been awesome. I started with street tires on my car, talked to alot of folks and drove as fast as I felt comfortable always keeping in mind what the experienced drives were telling me. I also used the times shaggin cones as a live classroom. I watch the other beginners and I watch the more senior drivers and began to learn the difference in the way they drive. Funny that the really fast guys look like there going slow and not working to hard and the slower ones are working the wheel hard and look fast but there times are slower. Anyhow just like the rest said. Come on out and try it. Work on having fun and the rest will come. To me I can read all day about this stuff but until I got on the course it just didn't sink in. Best way in my opinion to get fast is to have seat time.

Good Luck!

Hope to see you at the track soon

if someone could I'll get with the Ex to make sure she can take care of my boy !

Video from my CM FF 1600. Time was 55.042. First autox (or any driving event) in 2 years. 3rd run. Camera is GoPro Wide. Audio setting was wrong which hopefully is why the pushrod 4 with a 7K redline sounds more like a high reving motorcycle.

Dick,
That was cool. I have a GoPro and I have to set the volume level to low to get sound that dosent have that exact same static.

Here are a couple of shots. I have to agree with Scott in that that course was awesome! Not to fast, Not to slow, Not so busy that it was like work but it had enough to challenge everyone. I have to say my heart was going pretty good by the end of the run (I think I forgot to breath a couple of times)! Really fun stuff.

Hello everyone!
Here is my video. I used a pretty inexpensive camera (GoPro) The sound is not so good so you have to turn up the volume.
Anyhow I had a blast and I'm looking foward to getting fast on the new slicks.
On my first video you can here my helmet hitting roof of my car! and me saying damn! LOL. This video was my fastest run (thought it was a 59.7xx) Well I hope I can get faster and at least be in the same second as Roger and or the fastest car that's Licensed to drive on the street.

See ya next month!

672  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Hoosier a6 tires on the way! on: August 14, 2009, 06:52:50 AM
I would strongly caution against putting one slick on the road.  If you have to panic stop, and it's a front tire, that tire will have FAR more trip than the other, and may yank the wheel out of your hand.  Conversely, if you get on it, and it's on the rear, who knows which way you're gonna go.

Put two on, if not all 4, and both at the same end of the car.

Thanks for the advice!
673  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Hoosier a6 tires on the way! on: August 13, 2009, 05:32:22 PM
I'm going to stuff 3 of them in my car. I figure I can rotate the rear tires by driving one to the event and driving the other side home from the event. It will at least save one heat cycle and the fronts will only be on the car at the track.

Gunny

I'm pumped up for this upcomming auto-x!!!!

I live about 2 miles maybe 3 from you. It would be a short drive to RIR and about a 45 minute drive to VMP.
any recommendations for a tire installer. Mintz wants 2 hundred bucks to pull my Bridgestones off and put the hoosiers on (on the plus side there really close to my house)
