anyhow would like to get pic of your car and mine before you sell it.

Maybe Ricardo will buy it! I saw him with a shirt saying he loves Corvettes!

Englebert
sorry I missed your runs.
in the log I'm showing your 4th run as a 47.492 +1 and your 5th as 47.224.

I'll get those corrections to joe here in a few minutes.

Gunny.
3  Results / Autocross / Re: September 17th Results on: September 17, 2017, 05:22:50 PM
Yea
I had to manually input the runs from the timing sheets (I'm really glad we have those sheets)
anyhow I made a mistake setting up the event and it was setup to record the first three runs.
I manually inputted the runs tonight before having a beer! and I sent them to Joe and he in turn got them posted really fast.

so for the ones affected runs 4 and 5 are listed as 6 and 7

Got to think about it. 4 hours one way is a long way to go for 8 minutes of fun driving! guessing 4 runs each day.

8  General / Open Forum / Re: video and data recording? on: July 24, 2017, 04:39:28 PM
I use an older gopro for the shoulder videos and have a contour that I use for dash and helmet.
I recently starting using harry's lap timer on my phone along with a qstwrz 818xt and a obdLink MX.
harry's will do data collection along with video. here is what is looks like.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euG9ZvYK1q4

you can also export the data and video to programs that will merge the two data sources (video and gps/obd data) I forgot my gps this past weekend but I'm going to try DashWare to merge the video and data for my next race. I would like to get rpm, mph, brake, throttle, g's on a single dash board on the video along with the course. something kinda like this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=om6KVoeeA7s

Anyhow have fun trying things, it can get pretty expensive if you let it or it can be pretty cheap like mine. I'm thinking about getting solo storm as I have everything but solo storm.

I may be interested in your old go pro if your going to sell it.

13  General / Open Forum / Re: Racing Seat or Coil Overs on: June 15, 2017, 06:48:07 AM
Yea, I've been doing alot of reading on this subject.
changing the seat out for DE's and track days is different (should have a rollbar) than autocross use were a harness bar would suffice.
Seems as if Beth knows her stuff! (thanks for the input)
Most recommend if you get a seat get a 5 or 6 point Harness with a rollbar.
So a seat, harness and rollbar will be a project for next year (maybe).

14  General / Open Forum / Re: Racing Seat or Coil Overs on: June 14, 2017, 06:24:01 AM
Do you feel like you need a seat?  All else equal, I'd do coilovers first.  That said, it looks like a set of Pfadt coilovers are like $3k whereas a good seat, harness bar and harness should be well under $1k.

If you end up getting a seat, make sure it's still comfortable getting in and out of the car.  Racing seats with high sides can make it a real pain in the butt.  Not convenient for when you want to hop in and drive around.

Yea so I was thinking coilovers also. looking into Pfadt, LG motorsports, or johnny O Connel's
I did the hpde at summit point and my instructor had the same car as mine but setup for racing. It was fast! anyhow I was doing ok speed wise but I was getting tired by the end of a 25 minute session cause I was hanging on the wheel pretty tight. He recommended that I get seats and harness first or get them the same time I get the coilovers! he says the coilovers will make a huge improvement in how the car handles and I will for sure need a seat and harness. Anyhow I'm still contemplating on what to do.

so I called zips to ask about the Pfadt/Johnny O's. evidently Pfadt was bought by a company and from what they say Pfadt line is being temporarily put on hold so I'm guessing thats why the price is kinda high.

I think I'm going with these for the coilovers
https://www.lgmotorsports.com/tracking-racing-parts/corvette-racing-suspension/gt2-adjustable-coilovers.html

and these for the seats
https://www.corvettemods.com/C3-C4-C5-C6-C7-Corvette-1968-2014-SuedeLeather-Corbeau-A4-Racing-Seats-Pair-Reclining_p_11484.html

I think I'm going with the coilovers. I have one more hpde I'm scheduled to do in September so I'll just lift some weights and get my old ass in shape.

maybe could use some help putting on the coilovers.

15  General / Open Forum / Racing Seat or Coil Overs on: June 13, 2017, 12:49:07 PM
For most you know me and my car.
I've been doing some more track time this year and I'm starting to get the hang of live above 100mph.
anyhow just a quick question.
Starting the slippery slope of replacing/upgrading some things.

So after talking with some folks at Summit Point I've come up with two things I would like to upgrade relatively soon.

Racing seats and harness
or
Coil Overs

Which one should I do first?

for you instructors out there I would like to get your take and anybody else for that matter.

thanks,
looking forward to some good insight.

Are there a provisions in club or SCCA rules for separating a tie?  There has to be something more than alphabetical order, really.  Perhaps consider the second fastest time as the deciding factor.  It's totally unbiased and should work every time (like this happens every weekend).  Honestly, who'd a thought...to the thousandth!!!  Me 'n Jeff were both giving it all we had.  Do we call it a day and both get 2nd place bragging rights?

this is from the 2017 SCCA rule book

7.5 ties
Ties for trophy or point scoring positions shall be broken by comparing the
next  fastest  runs  from  each  course.  The  times  will  be  combined  and  then
compared to break a tie. If the tie persists, it shall be broken by a runoff, provided
both contestants agree. If agreement is not reached, the tie shall stand.
The additional run shall be used only to break the tie, and shall not be used to
place either contestant in a position other than those tied for.

finally got the can installed. Pretty happy with it.

20  General Category / Ask the Competition Committee / Re: Oil catch can on: April 25, 2017, 09:09:33 AM
Looks pretty good. How hard is yours to empty?
I recently installed one on the Vette and it looks great but to empty it without spilling anything will be a challenge.

Gunny

Did you get the Elite engineering one ? The one I have just unscrews from the bottom like a thermos, never spilled a drop. You don't want to let it get to full I supposed then there would be an issue.

Yes I did get the elite. So for my car you can install it two different ways. One is were most of the catch can is underneath the valvecover plastic shroud (this is the way I have mine) so when its like this you can unscrew the bottom but its so close to the frame that you have to tip the bottom over to get it clear to come out. The other way to install it requires a extension bolt. using the bolt pushes the catch can forward so it does not have to sit under the valve cover shroud. Elite is sending me that extension bolt, should be here tomorrow.

I have teched many cars with catch cans, some were pretty sketchy.  If you should add one please secure it with something more substantial than zip ties.

Will a ole Marine web belt do?
They are pretty damn strong! I'd bet it can hold 250lbs

Yea I watched a video explaining pretty much exactly what you said. So i guess I'm in the market for a good catch can.
Thanks for the explanation.

here is the video I watched.

So I've been doing alot of reading about these catch cans and I'm not so sure if I should put on the Vette. I'm just saying that I've taken the front part of the intake off and I don't really see a build up of oil, My plugs look good, etc. etc.
Question I keep asking myself is if these catch cans are that helpful why aren't they OEM?
just wondering, catch can would look cool but do they really work?
