1  Results / Autocross / Re: What should a VMSC newbie expect when coming to an autocross? on: April 10, 2010, 08:59:15 AM
Blue06civic,

Thanks for getting back to me the next day.  I know every club/group probably runs their autocrosses a little bit different.  I do have one more question.  How much does it cost to register?

Hope to see everyone at RIR tomorrow.

2  Results / Autocross / What should a VMSC newbie expect when coming to an autocross? on: April 09, 2010, 07:46:35 PM
I've never been to VMSC autocross before and I was wondering, as I'm sure other newbies would be, what should I expect.  I did all the the events with the DC region of the SCCA last year so I'm not exactly a rookie to autocrossing, but it would probably be good if everyone responds to my questions as if I was a rookie and provides other info that would be important to people who have never been to an autocross before.

First question, what time should I show up?  The schedule says registration starts at 9.

Should I come early for any reason? (changing tires, look at course, etc.)

What will the schedule for the day be? (registration, course walk, lunch, start of runs, etc.)

Is there anything I will have to do? (work course, work grid)

How many runs will I get?

What if it rains?

Is there anything I should bring?  (food & drinks, umbrella, chairs, etc.)

What kinda of safety/legal restrictions are there?

What if I crash?

Can I take pictures/video?

What do I need to do for car camera systems?

Will I need a helmet?

I'll admit, I didn't look around to see if there was another thread in another section that already addresses this.  But, if I had never been to an autocross before I would probably look in the autocross thread first.  Hopefully we will get some good answers and will be able to sticky the thread.  I'm not trying to run over anyones toes,... I'm just trying to help the people who have never been to an autocross before.

3  General / Classifieds / 77 Datsun 280Z for sale. $500. on: January 04, 2010, 04:53:36 PM
Like the subject says.  It is currently not in a running condition and there is some rust.  As it always is with rust it is probably more extensive than it appears.  That being said the interior is in almost perfect condition with no cracks in the seats or dash.  I traded a `87 VW Jetta GL for the 280Z back in 2000 or 2001 and haven't had the time or money to do anything with the Z since then.  The Z has been covered for most of that time.  I have started to pull the engine to start working on the whole car, but to be honest I think it is beyond my financial and time limits at this point (i.e. I don't have enough time or money).  It doesn't help that the car is parked at a friends house in Mineral and I live and work in C'ville.  I was hoping to turn it into a car for PDX/time trial events, but like I think I might be better off sticking to autocrossing for another year and purchasing another car down the road.  If anyone is interested I can e-mail you a copy of the FSM.  Here is link to the pictures I posted of it on my myspace.  http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=13440712&albumId=2854318

I'll check back this weekend to see if anyone has replied with interest.

Thanks,
Matt

The SCCA Blue Ridge Region website is showing one for October, in Richmond.  The day isn't set yet.  I saw that while making my 2010 autocross schedule for the BRR and WDCR of the SCCA, hopefully I'll be able to make it to some VMS and BRR events this year.  I did all the WDCR events last year.
