Title: Ride Height
Post by: Autox on September 27, 2005, 08:41:02 AM
I had a discussion with several people this past weekend regarding ride height adjustment in stock class.

This is what I have found in the SCCA Manual:
13.8 SUSPENSION

Paragraph 2:

Quote
Both the front and rear suspension may be adjusted through their designed range of adjustment by use of factory adjustment arrangements or by taking advantage of inherent manufacturing tolerances. This encompasses both alignment and ride height parameters, if such adjustments are provided by the stock components and specified by the factory as normal methods of adjustment. However, no suspension part may be modified for the
purpose of adjustment unless such modification is specifically
authorized by the factory shop manual for non-competition purposes.

Sweet!:D

Junior would know more about this than I do... but I read on SCCAForums that you don't really want to use ALL of the factory lowering capability. Probably does some nasty things to suspension geometry. Sam Strano could probably help you out on that one since he seems to know a thing or two about setting up fast Z06s.

Junior was the one to show me you could adjust it.

Yes but he also has some visible RR fender damage.

That was the result of an errant tire rolling through the pits - nothing to do with ride height.

That is not what he told Bill Lloyd and me. He said the guy who was driving it set the ride height too low.

Yep, Mike told me the damage was done while in the trailer, on the way to the Nationals. But that car is in A/SP, so he can lower it almost any way he likes.

Junior had told me it was from the bump stops being cut too short.  I traded some e-mail messages with Erik Strelniks who runs an SS Z06 and he indicates that with stock rim sizes there is not a concern of hitting the fender.  The only issue he mentioned was that the front valance hits much more often and that he takes it off when driving on the street.

Well I did the deed today.  We got about 1/2 inch of height drop using the stock adjustment.  Not an incredible amount but still anything will help.  I will drop it off for an alignment to put some negative camber in it.

We also put it on scales weigh and corner weight it.

Stock it was pretty close to what people were suggesting but we got it dialed in.  Pretty sweet to have that much adjustment in a stock car.
