Title: STS/STX rules question
Post by: Oriole33 on September 29, 2015, 07:58:59 AM
Just read over SCCA "Permitted modifications" for STS/STX class. It states that changing "Alternate air filter elements" is allowed. I interpret that to mean going from an OEM filter element to a Fram air filter.

Later, it states that it is NOT permitted to change or remove "air cleaners." I am guessing that could refer to removing the stock air intake and replacing it with a cold-air system?

Maybe I'm wrong in my interpretation. I saw a car running in STS with a cold-air system and am now confused.

Any insight on this would be appreciated

After researching more, I think the rule was changed and now it IS allowable to run a cold-air intake. I may have been reading an older (undated) posting of class rules.

It sounds like you were reading the "Stock/Street rules. In any case always go to the SCCA site and read the rules there. They are up to date.
