Title: Dyno Day
Post by: wahoo5 on January 21, 2014, 08:48:00 PM
Our annual Dyno Day at Performance Autosport is set for March 8. We will begin at 10 and go until we are done.

Prices are dependent on turnout. It is 1-5 @$65, 6-10 @$60, 11-15 @$55 and so on.

Please sign up here with your real name and car info so I can get the list to Kevin. It is first come, first serve on Saturday unless you make prior arrangements with Kevin at Performance Autosport or me. If we don't get past 10 by about 2 weeks out, I will open it up to Cars & Coffee to get the price down.

You can get info on the Dyno and directions at the Performance Autosport website - http://www.performanceautosport.com (http://www.performanceautosport.com)

Post any questions here.

Beth: That dyno is only for 2WD cars just so you know. I don't think the Carrera 4 will work. You can double check with them however.

You are quite correct.  I am an idiot (who should wait until fully awake before posting on forums).

An enthusiastic idiot, however.   ;D
Maybe I should bring the Passport......

I will dyno something...maybe the LeMons Miata - see if it's running any better this year than last.

I'm in. Either my old Chevy truck, or the Z-28. Anyone want to get up a pool on who guesses closest to the actual HP of a given vehicle?

I like the pool idea.

I can't commit to this yet, but if my Cressida wagon is back on the road by then I'd like to see how close I can come to the magical 150rwhp mark haha. Ideally it would have a new exhaust system on it too by then...

Nah, I'll just come and cheer.   I already did the 997 once, haven't changed anything.

I have a couple of friends that might like to dyno their cars. Should I mention it to them, or wait and see how the club responds to the event?

Go ahead and invite them. I don't think it will keep members from dynoing their cars. Just let me know here so I can keep the list up to date.

Can you lock the center diff and pull the front driveshafts?

Thinking about doing that on my Land Cruiser and see if I can put down 100!

David, we are still planning to dyno the Fiat, but at the moment the engine is still being reassembled.  We would like to have a little time on it before it gets to the dyno.  So for us right now it's a "maybe".

Is that per run or do you get a couple of runs?  I'm contemplating building an exhaust for my car and would like a before/after.  Takes about 5 minutes to swap if the bumper is off.

Post by: wahoo5 on February 10, 2014, 06:15:24 PM
3 pulls, Pete. With air/fuel ratio if you ask. I would think 5 minutes to swap would not be a problem. You can call Kevin at Performance Autosport and ask if you want to be sure.

David,

Bad news

With the car looking like this, valentines day weekend, club banquet, moving to a house and the fact I'm picking up another project car.... I won't be able to make dyno day :(

I think there is a Mustang with over 500 hp as well. There should be several cars making sweet sounds.

My friend, Jonathon Kin, (registered with the 95 mustang gt) is having car trouble and cannot keep his car running. He told me today that he will not be able to make it out tomorrow.

So what were everybody's numbers?  I'm pleased that the Miata put down 117hp and 117ft-lbs.  Not too bad for a stock 1.8 with just a custom intake and eBay exhaust.

Title: Re: Dyno Day
Post by: pipefitter on March 09, 2014, 05:43:39 AM
My old truck was somewhat disappointing. I was expecting 220 hp, and 275+ on torque. It made 184 horses, and 245 ftlb. The dyno operator showed me that the AF ratio was so lean he didn't want to make a third pull. In his opinion, getting the carb right at WOT, would give it another 20 horses. BUT, the engine in the truck is from a '79 Chevy Blazer. From the factory, it only made 165 hp at the flywheel, so my numbers don't suck all that bad. I'll try it again next year.
