conesniping school questions
«
on:
April 07, 2008, 11:50:31 AM »
I am looking for information from the autocrossers here on what to bring to the school; should I prep my car at home(take out floor mats and what not), will there be an area to park a support vehicle in?
I am looking forward to this week ending and getting in some seat time.
thanks for all advice, this is my first autocross.

I uploaded a few files to the public files area that were a big help to me when I first started
Enjoy

There is parking for support vehicles at RIR. It is your choice whether to prep your car at home or at RIR. Most people do it at the course, but others prefer to do it at home.
Let us know if you have any other specific questions.

I don't know if it will be necessary at the school, but when attending an autocross you have to put numbers on the car. A thin roll of blue painters tape usually works very well. If you have any lying around you might as well throw it in the car.

The weather dosn't look to condusive to my car having any grip; should be a lot of fun.
How do I acess the public files area?

Guess I'm dumb 'cause I can't find them either.
Home takes me to the top of the forum page and I don't see an Upload/Download files link anywhere.
BTW, could we add a Home button that would take us back to the main website rather than just the forum. There's no link to it anywhere on the forum page that I can find.

In my opinion, that should make it a much better learning experience. Less grip would make it easier for new drivers to find the "edge".

Cory,
I don't understand what you are seeing. The Home button at the top of the forum page goes to the home page (main VMSC page). What you are requesting is already there.
As to uploads/downloads, move the cursor over the Home button on either the home or forum page. The drop down menu should show the Upload & Download Files choice. Select it. The direct link is <http://www.vmsc.org/file-manager.html>.
If you are not seeing what I am describing, try flushing your browser cache. If that doesn't help, post here or send me an email with as many specifics as possible and we will get Jim to check into it.
Hope this helps.

Ah, I see now. This appears to be another website programmed specifically to work with Internet Exploder and nothing else.
Neither of those things work under Firefox or Opera and I normally use Firefox. When I point at the HOME button on the forum page, nothing happens. When I click on it, it goes only to the forum home, not the VMSC homepage. I just checked it under IE and it works as you stated. I'll live without those goodies though because that's not enough of a reason for me to run the security risks and use IE.
Ultimately, it's my (and anyone else who uses a browser other than IE) issue.

what? There's a dropdown when you hover over "Home" by "Help"? Hmm, I'm on IE 7 and I don't see a dropdown.
Cory, web browser components that don't work aren't your problem because you use something other than IE. In this day of the browser wars, web developers need to ensure components like these work in all browsers. They must not realize the market share; or maybe I don't realize it.
I'm not poking fun at this site! I'll be the first to admit, this is further advanced than I could have ever made this site. I just don't like hearing you say its your problem.

I think you guys are barking up the wrong tree. My access is usually by Firefox on a PC and Safari on a Mac. On both I see what I described.
Personally, I try to avoid any flavor of IE. I have not tried IE7 and I probably won't.
I will refer this to Jim Haltom to see if he can figure out what is going on. I am already well past my headlights.

I'm on Firefox 2.0.0.13 both at work and at home. I have Flashblock, SecurePassword Generator and Video Downloader add-ons loaded. I don't get a dropdown from the home menu on any of them. The cache is cleared whenever Firefox is closed and I've tried zapping all of my cookies and logging back in - no change. I haven't fooled with the Opera machine because it's not set up right now.
Things work fine in IE7 at work (haven't tried IE6 at home) but I do my best not to use it.
Boy, talk about getting off-topic...

The Home that has the drop down menu is on the home page of the main website (next to Contact Us), not the home link on the forum (w/ Help next to it).
The Home page drown down works in every browser version i've tested (safari, IE 6/7, Firefox 1.5+).

I've figured out the work around, and uploaded it to the Public Files area. ;-)
Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow! I've not been to RIR - what's the scoop on spectator areas? Anything like VMP with a good view?

OIC, that works in my firefox (v2.0.0.13) and IE7 (which I have to use at work).

Hey Will,
There's not an elevated area for spectators like the bleachers at VMP, but spectators are more near the middle side of the course area than at one end like VMP.
On the menu thing, I'm using Firefox, and see the drop-down whenever I rollover the "Home" tab at the top, whether I'm on the forum page or the home page. I'm using 2.0.0.13
Later,
Dennis
