March 24 sees the launch of the 2007 rally season with a school and rally at James River Cellars in Hanover County.  The school is directed at novices but will include clear instructions on winning a DIYC control and how to Great Race.

It's true you can't consume alcoholic beverages before or during an event but you can surely purchase something to share with your rallymaster after.

What a shame that more of the dozen folks who preregistered didn't show up for this one.  We had an informative classroom session, but the real treat was having TSD and Great Race legs smooshed into the same rally!

And I learned something (yes, us old dogs are still capable of doing that): running a Great Race leg is exactly the same as running seat-of-the-pants but without the luxury of mileage callbacks.  Makes me wonder how a full Great Race format rally would work; it would have to be at the simplest of simple tour level or you would never see anyone at the last control.

Thanks to Betsy and Chuck for a fun day.  I'll have to run back up to the winery for a taste (with a dessicated driver, of course).  And to those of you thinking of running this year's iteration of our TipToe Thru The Tulips (aka T5.3), some of the roads we ran Sunday will be seen again...
