For me, having my son with me for the day and making it worth his while by letting him ride once or twice is worth a lot more than points or trophies. All participants do not share the same motivations.

I agree that this is the VMSC rule. I have never known us to have a rule against passengers, just competitors as passengers before they compete. At least for me, that is an important difference. Matt can't wait for the day that the rule prevents him from riding with me.

By the way, you should tell Matt he is more than welcome to strap in next to me or Donna in the vette for a run or two anytime. Thanks for all the great pics!

Thanks. I will tell him. We won't be at the autocross this Sunday, but should be back for the 19th.
Remind me where you found the anitseize in a lipstick-like tube. That crap is hard to get off of your hands when you use your finger for an applicator.

You can do this by:

I don't think they'll be announcing this until the Driver's meeting Grant. It'll be heat 1-3, since 4 is for non-members and Novices.
Just to clarify, is it allowed within our rules for a competitor to ride with another competitor after the passenger has completed their runs? My thinking was that if you ran 1st/2nd heat you could ride along during your off-work heat.
Thanks,
Brian

All non-members and novices will run in the 4th heat. There will be no exceptions so please don't ask. We are expecting about 100 cars and will try to start on time, first car off at 11:00.
VMSC rules do not allow competitors to be passengers during any competition runs. Non-competitor passengers are allowed but must sign a release and must have a wristband.

is
the rule we will be operating under.
I am not trying to stir the pot on this on purpose but, if this is the case then Mr. Ogburn and dozens of other people have been in violation of this rule. The competition reqs posted on the website do not specify one way or the other. So going by a rule similar to the SCCA, 'If it is not specifically written in the rules as being allowed then it is not allowed' lots of people are in violation. Including myself probably more than once this year.
I thought I had been present at a membership meeting where we voted to allow non-competitors as passengers (that should tell people how long ago this might have happened)
I am not picking on David Ogburn I just seem to remember him stating he was in favor of the change because it would allow him to take his son on his runs and not be penalized. I could just be making all of this up since my memory isn't what it should be.
I know a lot of others have weighed in on this and that I have not been a member of VMSC for too long but I got back into AutoX as a way to reconnect with my teenage son. We are able to spend the entire day together talking about something we both love and enjoy and as a reward for sharing his time with me - he gets to ride along. Even if these rides prohibit me for actually earning points - I will continue to have him ride along because I feel that it is critical that we share at least this one activity - it's tough being 14 years old and I would rather loose points than loose out on a fun ride with him. As someone else mentioned the fact that he is not driving and is only adding additional weight to my car ought to be penalty enough...

I've been on the comp committee for many, many years. I chaired it the prior two. My understanding is that non-competing drivers can ride along, and the driver suffers no penalty. All riders and drivers, (under 18), must sign a minor release form as well as their parent or legal guardian. The parent or LG's signature must be witnessed by a club member. The reason we prohibit competitors from riding with one another is to prevent the unfair advantage of previewing, or reviewing the course. I fought my butt off about this, and I'm certain we still allow it.

The rule from our Speed Regs from March 2006 states:
5.2 Only the driver and non-competing individuals shall be in the car while it is on the course for competitive runs unless a navigator is required by the O.D.(s).
This rule allows non-competing passengers, but once again the release must be signed.

Since we have so many visitors joining us this weekend from B.R.R. I figured it would be a good thing to post up the latest versions of our Speed and Competition Regulations. These were just revised in July of this year. These will also replace what are currently posted up on our website.
Thanks and see you on Sunday!

Patrick Lloyd, number 39, will not be able to make the event on 11-12, and apologizes for the late cancellation.

I apologize for the extremely late cancellation but if you would please remove #64, Alexander Snyder (1982 Mazda RX-7 STSII), I won't be making it to the event - something has come up.

I know it's late notice but I was sick yesterday and I think being in the rain today would just make it worse.
I won't be able to make it, #67.
Good luck everyone,
Brian
