At the last autocross, someone was heard to claim that Toyota "does not currently have a sports car".
I had no ready answer, but have been mulling over this ever since.

Surely the company that brought us the Supra, the MR2, and, um, many other wonderful models that I can't offhand think of...
surely  they would never have abandoned motorsport and left us with nothing but boring old sedans and SUVs!

I considered attempting a bit of Photoshop wizardry, but as it turned out no help from me was necessary.
Toyota does, indeed, offer a current model sports car - for those with the discernment to recognize it.

Ladies & gentlemen, I give you....

today's dream machine for a new generation...

                           the Toyota Yaris!!

How about this :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexus_LFA

Or this :

http://www.caranddriver.com/features/2012-toyota-ft86-subaru-0846

Both are race worthy from the showroom.

Strictly speaking I guess they don't, since the LFA is a Lexus and the BRZ is a Scion...

Are you suggesting the Yaris isn't??
Clearly all it needs is a bit of paint and some stickers!   Grin

They are still Toyota's in my opinion. Just like an Escalade is nothing but a suburban with more stuff to break and spend your money on.

I agree Smiley.

Regarding the Yaris...It probably has 10x more engineering hours in it than my Ferrari and is a much better car.  But, it'll never be as much fun.

The LFA on the other hand...

That was me that said there were no Toyota sports cars.
This was discovered when I was car shopping (and ended up with my Genesis).
I walked through the whole Toyota lot and could't believe there wasn't anything sporty.
LFA doesn't count - not affordable.
My quest took place fall of 2010.

I think you should write to Toyota and tell them how disappointed you were, also let them know that you bought a Hyundai instead of a Toyota   :  )

I guess if Lotus can  stuff a Toyota engine in an Elise, Toyota can paste a Union Jack on a Yaris. Maybe Lotus should have a Rising Sun flag on their rear-views.....

That Yaris looks like what SCCA is shooting for with the new "B-Spec" road race class.

Looks like a great car, but it hasn't been classed yet. Sam Strano bought one and is already developing go-fast parts.
