Hi - I've ran my 2008 Miata with the club a few times but I'd like to bring my 1988 Evante MK I (www.obrox.com/evante)  up and run it this weekend. It's pretty much classless. I ran it at Pungo several years ago but don't remember what class we put it in. I don't care at all if it is competitive in class - just want it to get through Tech.

Its really unusual, only about 108 were built and there are only two in the USA so its not on any list. Its a lot like an old Lotus Elan, but meant to be an upgrade, not a clone, and not a kit car.  I've modified the engine, changed it from carbs and points distributor to EFI and EDIS (megasquirt), and changed the cams. And the springs and shocks are modified. Displacement is about 1760, has about 150 HP, (Dynos at 125 RWHP) is really small, fiberglass body, and weighs around 1500 lbs. I've got a set of about 3 yr old, unused, autoX slicks to run on it.

No additional safety equipment, no roll bar, just the stock seatbelt etc. What class can I put it in to get through tech and have some fun?

Think I've found the answer to my question. I guess the safety equipment in the SCCA rule book doesn't apply here? Since the car would seem to be thrown into some modified class since it isn't listed I was concerned that it could technically be required to have the safety equipment for modifieds. But I guess that isn't the case here. Hope I don't show up and get told I can't run.

Sorry I haven't a clue about classifications myself.  But it looks like a great car!  Hope to see it Sunday.

If you are running slicks (racing tires) you will need a roll bar.  You are right in that it does not "legally" fit into any class-- except B/M or A/M-- but I don't see any problem running it in D/M or E/M if you had a roll bar.  (It may pass as an Elan "clone".)  If you have some street tires or "R comps" I think that our rules will allow you to run.  We would really need to look at the car before we can decide.  If you can bring it up on street tires we'll check everything out and let you know.
Note: Our rules normally follow SCCA Solo rules (with minor differences) so usually if SCCA requires something for safety then we will also require it.   If you prepare the car to D or E Mod safety rules we shouldn't have any problem with it, but because it's sort of an unknown we will still have to check it out.
Hope this helps, email me and we can discuss details,
