Have had a lot of interest since starting my motorsports welding business so I thought I would post here.  I know it is sometimes hard to find motorsports welders.  I am certified in TIG 4130 roll cage tubing, and have seen lots of questionable welds at VIR and other locations.  I am located in Glen Allen if interested.

Hourly rate for TIG welding and Fabrication is $75/hr, But many times I will just quote the job because there is often "non-skilled" work involved that you should not be paying premium rate for.  As a rough guide a NASA compliant 6 pt cage, mild steel, 1.75" DOM 0.120 TIG welded (except the plates) is $1800 installed (total cost including materials).  MIG welded cage can be done for about 1500.  The usual disclaimer is that I would need to discuss any job in detail before I give a quote, but I always hate it when guys will not even give you a ball-park.  I have also provided some discounts to run my company info/decal on the car.  I just finished a car for the NASA '09 CMC champion and he was thrilled with the tig welds.  He is building the car for his son.  I can provide his info as reference if you like.

I hate to have rambled on, but I also want to stress that I am looking to build relationships with folks in the sport more than to just make a certain profit off a job.  It is important for me that you feel that you got exceptional quality and service for the price.  Hope this helps

Oh, sorry about the questionable weld comment.  The real sad part is that good looking welds do not necessarily mean good welds.  Most MIG welding on 120 wall is short arc welding, and that can have poor penetration with good looking welds.  I have seen beautiful welds at Lincoln's motorsports welding school that just pull apart.  If your welder can tell you the difference between short arc, globular, and spray arc they are probably very good, otherwise I would have it TIG'd if it were my life.  I guess I better get ready for some pretty harsh responses.
