Anyone want to help put gears in my car?

So, I've got a set of 4.10s to put in the rear end of my Caprice. I've swapped carriers before in RWD cars, but never done a full gearset. I get nervous about setting the correct pinion depth and was hoping someone on the forum with experience could give me some help. I'm planning on pulling the whole rear end out of the car so that I can work on it on my workbench. Anyone feel like getting together some weekend day in September and having a gear swapping party?

You're more than welcome to come over. The gears I bought came with an installation DVD, so at the very least we can pretend like we know what we're doing
It won't be this coming holiday weekend, probably the weekend of the 12th or the 26th.

I've torn apart a bmw diff and put it back together before. Didn't measure anything, since there werent any instructions or specs with it which is probably why it hummed after I put it back together and on the car. But it worked for a few years, traded in a couple months ago, still humming. I wouldn't mind helping out if I'm available.

Sure, I'm gonna try and get some pre-work done on the car this weekend and then I'll post up when I plan on doing the gears.

Did you get an installation kit? Does that rear have a crush sleeve on the pinion gear? I think the pinion has a huge nut on it.....if you don't have a socket that will fit, let me know. If there are any other tools you may need, give me a heads up before Friday evening, and I'll try to help you out. Are you installing a posi at the same time, or does it already have one? BTW, 4.10's, what are you going to do with this thing?

Yeah, I got an install kit with all new bearings too. I'm going to put the gears on the stock open carrier for now and try and get the rest of the car running before worrying about a limited slip. The car currently has 2.56s and a 0.7 OD. 70mph is ~1650rpm. With the T56 6 speed (0.5 6th gear) and the 4.10s, 70mph will still only be ~1850rpm. The shorter gearing should help with towing the Civic around. Most of the people with T56 Caprice's are running 4.10s, some run 3.73s and some run 4.56s.

Looks like I'll be doing this on the 26th. The pinion shaft lock bolt is broken, so I need to wait for a new one to come in.
