A caught a rock on I-64 on the way to work on Friday. Will need a new windshield in the MINI. Any recommendations for local shops? The dealer price is over a $1,000 so that isn't happening.

Pretty much any of them. Had mine replaced last year at Eagel Glass shop. believe it was around 300.00

I had mine done at Ace Glass in Midlothian and would characterize it as a mixed experience. It was under $200 IIRC.
Pros
Very easy to deal with
Car was done on-time
No visible excess glue anywhere
Cons
My car has a bunch of molding on the cowl and they broke most of the plastic clips (can't say I wouldn't have done the same) and cracked off some of the tabs that hold it together.
I think it all depends on who the installer is that works on the car.

Tony, that is really weird that you got a different quote than I did. My quote at Safelite was $196 plus molding for $18.
Scott, thanks for the offer. Just for you, I will let you have the broken windshield for only $50. Let me know when you want to get it.

I put in on it without rain sensor. Which mine doesnt have.. that could be the difference.. either way its still alot less that 1000.00 +

Mine doesn't have rain sensor either so that is not the difference. I got it replaced for $200 at Auto Glass Plus, which was the same price as my estimate from Safelite. I used them once for my 350Z and was pleased.

That might work if you could find a good enough TIG welder.  Stick and MIG wouldn't do it as they're too messy. |
