yep going shopping today for the axle.. going to check at pepboys its where i bought it for only 50.00 last time. and yeah it was the same axle. that was broke 3 years ago.

its a 1987 jetta Mk II   GL.  with an 8valve motor. 1.8  with vin number 1vwga0165hv017466

If that helps with the looking for parts. Oh and btw I allready have lowering springs for the car.
Also have a Garage .. messy but workable

Hey Tony, thanks for the info.  Maybe we should carry a spare set of axles with us if the one that broke was replaced a few years ago.  The only real thing that worries me about the Jetta is the cooling issue.  I was reading and it looks like we can mount a 2 row aluminum radiator from a diesel Jetta ($99 from Advance Auto) which should help immensely.  That and a new thermostat should be able to keep the thing cool.  If we all agree on the car, I think we should get together next weekend and make sure it has good compression before going any further.  Assuming it does we can replace the axle and start going through everything else.  I have a list of stuff to do that should keep us busy for a while Wink

fine with me im off on wensdays and sundays.. u can reach me at 559-0986 on those days

I'll see how things look. Got a bunch of stuff going on.

Good news though. I am buying Brents wheels with Falkens and Wagner has a set of wheels with Azenis 215's as well that fit. That is two sets of performance tires right there, mounted and ready to go. Both sets are 200 treadwear!

Scott,

I've got an old set of falken RT215, 205 50 15 tires with about 4/32 tread that you can have for your project if you think you can come up with some 15" wheels.  They're at my house, along with the wheels you bought from Brent.

Its not that I dont have them just dont know exactly where they are. hmm or yes i may not have them (6mm or certain size sockets) come to think about it. wont know untill i finish resetting everything.

Alright, I will at least come over and start poking and prodding and get that axle in so that the car is driveable again.  Tony, can you PM me your address?  I will bring tools...I am assuming you have a power outlet that I can plug my air compressor into?

Update: I compression checked the car and the numbers were amazingly good.  They were between 180 and 200psi on all cylinders.  Unfortunately, the axle that was ordered was incorrect (it was ordered correctly, the wrong part came in the box though), so the car isn't together yet.  I am going to try and find some time this week after work to put the correct one in and get the car driving again.

I can bring the car to my house after working on it, on one condition.  Danielle says in exchange for looking like hillbilly white trash with 5 cars (a couple of them being multi-colored) in front of our house we need to chip in and pay for her entry fee as a non-driver.  If you guys are cool with that, I can bring the car to my house and we can work on it here in my garage, until we find somewhere better to put it (if that ever happens).  That way, on sleepless nights I can keep myself busy tearing the interior out and doing random stuff to make the car more reliable.

Scott, are you going to be the one who buys the car and puts your name on the paperwork?  We should probably get that worked out pretty soon.

Thanks for doing this. I am fine with chipping in for Danielle's fee. Putting it at my house would extract a far bigger price!

Sure I'll be the owner. What is the final purchase price and should I put tags on it since we will want to drive it around while we get it all setup. I assume we will all be chipping in to cover everything? I'm cool with us paying $50 for storage fees. Wink

Tags are good till the end of Jan 09 and im keeping insurance on it.. inspection has run out though. as for the title if it needs to be in another name to show that it was purchased for 500 and under. (currently shows 700) then we can do a title change. Again im Donating the car for the event and general VMSC use if it survives.  After the event.. I'm Planning on buying some Cheap racing seats to put in it .. Since Ahmos would most likly want his back

Ah, good, we've got plenty of time then to figure out what to do with ownership.  Tony, I'll give you a call tonight to see if the axle came in.  I can probably work on it today.

Keath....you able to assist with graphics?

I am sure I can help out with Graphics... Wouldn't mind a shot at one of them drivers spots either.

As far as Glenn's car, it has a cage and no interior but I haven't gotten it yet.  He has been pretty busy and hasn't had a chance to return my calls.

As I said earlier, we may want to enter 2 cars. All the other costs would be the same. Want to build the Civic, since it is part of the way there. Including you I thik we'd be at 8 drivers.

Me, Justin, David, Adrian, Daniel, Scott W., Ben Lawes, and yourself. We can do double duty between the cars if necessary. Either way I'm sure we can get you in on the festivities.

Jeff seemed interested as well.

Tony and I got the axle in the Jetta last night.  I am going to move it to my house sometime over the next week.  I will be home next Monday and Tuesday all day.  Any of you guys wanna come over one day and we can start tearing it apart, taking roll cage measurements and stuff like that?
