Hi all.  I've been looking for some TDS Rally's to try running close to where I live (North Carolina) and I found your site.  Do I need to be a member of your club to participate in the races you hold?  If not, what's the usual entry fee?

Thanks,

I participated in several rallyes before joining the club.  It's been a couple of years, though, so I don't know what the fees are.

Absolutely not! (we will shamelessly take anybody's money)  Grin

Check here http://www.vmsc.org/calendar/86.html to see the schedule (as information becomes available the entries get filled in).  There are 4 more events scheduled this year, and all but the last are planned as tour events.  You can pre-register if you like, but you can also just show up at registration and sign up.

The fee is $30 per car, $25 for members of either VMSC or the ODR chapter of SCCA. We are currently running a joint program so the events count for points in both clubs! Since we are in the process of reviving the rallye program, we run mostly SCCA "tour" type rallyes, which means that course following is straightforward enough for even first-timers to be able to enjoy the events.

One point I must make: a rallye is not a race.  It is an excersize in following a predetermined course at a given speed.  There are checkpoints along the way, and you score penalty points for every 0.01 of a minute you are "off" the predicted time, either early or late.  The prescribed speeds are required by our competitionn regulations to be at of preferably below the posted speed.

or http://www.tsdroadrally.com/novice_or_nervous.cfm

The general instructions for a rally are usually posted on this forum one or two weeks before the event.  The instructions lay out the general rules by which the instructions are to be interpreted, and also give the starting time and location of the event.  So watch this space, and come on out for the event on the last Saturday of August and join the fun.

Thanks for the info.  Hopefully, I can make one of the future races.   Smiley
