26  General / Autos and Autosport / Re: Buying a car with a lost title on: April 16, 2008, 01:28:06 PM
It sounds like the current owner better do it.

Straight from the horses mouth:

http://www.dmvnow.com/webdoc/citizen/vehicles/replacement.asp

Replacement titles are issued for vehicles if a title is lost, stolen or mutilated. Substitute titles are issued when information on the previously issued title needs to be changed. To obtain a replacement title:

    * Order online
    * Call 1-888-337-4782 or
    * Bring your current registration card and your driver's license or ID card to your local customer service center.
    * Complete an "Application for Supplemental Lien and Transfer Liens or Replacement and Substitute Titles" (VSA-66). All owners must sign to give authorization unless the application is being submitted by the primary lienholder.

      NOTE: If the owner of the vehicle is deceased, the surviving legal heir, executor or administrator of the estate can complete and sign the VSA-66 on behalf of the deceased. You must also submit the certified or notarized death certificate and one of the following documents: a notarized copy of the will; completed "Statement of Authority to Assign Title" (VSA-24) as proof of legal heir; a court-issued document or will appointing the executor or administrator; or any other court-issued document appointing an executor or administrator.

    * Pay the replacement title fee.

If your vehicle is free of liens, you will receive a replacement title for your vehicle. If your vehicle originally had a lien on it, you will need to show that the lien has been satisfied. If the lien has not been satisfied, the replacement title will be sent to the lienholder of record.

Note: Once a replacement title is issued all prior titles are invalid.

I'm on Firefox 2.0.0.13 both at work and at home. I have Flashblock, SecurePassword Generator and Video Downloader add-ons loaded. I don't get a dropdown from the home menu on any of them. The cache is cleared whenever Firefox is closed and I've tried zapping all of my cookies and logging back in - no change. I haven't fooled with the Opera machine because it's not set up right now.

Things work fine in IE7 at work (haven't tried IE6 at home) but I do my best not to use it.

Boy, talk about getting off-topic... Grin Grin Grin

I think you guys are barking up the wrong tree. My access is usually by Firefox on a PC and Safari on a Mac. On both I see what I described.

Personally, I try to avoid any flavor of IE. I have not tried IE7 and I probably won't.

I will refer this to Jim Haltom to see if he can figure out what is going on. I am already well past my headlights.

Ah, I see now. This appears to be another website programmed specifically to work with Internet Exploder and nothing else.

Neither of those things work under Firefox or Opera and I normally use Firefox. When I point at the HOME button on the forum page, nothing happens. When I click on it, it goes only to the forum home, not the VMSC homepage. I just checked it under IE and it works as you stated. I'll live without those goodies though because that's not enough of a reason for me to run the security risks and use IE.

Ultimately, it's my (and anyone else who uses a browser other than IE) issue.

Cory

Cory,

I don't understand what you are seeing. The Home button at the top of the forum page goes to the home page (main VMSC page). What you are requesting is already there.

As to uploads/downloads, move the cursor over the Home button on either the home or forum page. The drop down menu should show the Upload & Download Files choice. Select it. The direct link is <http://www.vmsc.org/file-manager.html>.

If you are not seeing what I am describing, try flushing your browser cache. If that doesn't help, post here or send me an email with as many specifics as possible and we will get Jim to check into it.

Hope this helps.

David

Try <Home> <Upload / Download files> and Public File Area
Guess I'm dumb 'cause I can't find them either.

Home takes me to the top of the forum page and I don't see an Upload/Download files link anywhere.

BTW, could we add a Home button that would take us back to the main website rather than just the forum. There's no link to it anywhere on the forum page that I can find.

What if I did (as I believe was posted in Checkpoints) and mailed my banquet check to the VMSC post office box?

Yeah, no problem there. And I was the one running the computer and keying in the car based on what number was on it, so blame me, not Audie.

Have there been any further updates on this? I haven't heard anything since the initial outrage.
34  General / Technical Help / Fender roller? on: October 09, 2007, 09:14:07 AM
Anybody in the Richmond area got a fender roller I can borrow/rent? I'm looking at some new tires and they're gonna be CLOSE so I'd rather roll the fenders in advance.

It's a pretty new car so I don't want to do the baseball bat roll... :cry:

I don't have a dog in this show so I don't really care but...

Lonnie H was in CS in his Miata and Scott H was in CSP in "Lonnie's Miata". Did they change out the suspension between runs or something? Shouldn't they be in the same class?

Well, it should be pretty much the same course on the 12th so you can come back and run it again.

Glad you liked it.

Plus, some of the tolls in the area were originally intended only to recoup the investment of building the toll-road.  Those roads have long-since paid for themselves, but the tolls still exist.  So, if the goal here is to earn $x for the state budget, and the tolls provide $x+$n, where does $n go?  (That question obviously applies to the remedial fees, too.)

Hey now, don't go getting all mathy on me! :p

Many of the toll roads still in this area are privately owned. Hence, the $n is profit for the road owners.

Besides, toll booths would provide jobs for more VA citizens, who in turn could pay taxes.

Win-win for everyone!:bouncep::bounce:Cheesy

I like the idea of toll roads in the areas that need more roads. The residents and travellers of those areas should be paying for the roads, not everyone else.

At least using the toll route, I get to choose if I want the convenience of using a faster route that costs me a toll, or using a different road that's no extra charge.
41  General / Open Forum / Got an aftermarket steering wheel? Look out! on: June 27, 2007, 06:38:53 AM
So it seems then, that if one were reasonably good with electronics, a dummy light could be rigged to trigger the "airbag ready" light on the dash for 6 seconds while allowing for disarming the actual airbag system. The airbag itself would have to stay in place but it would be disabled.

I have concerns as to the reliability of the airbag in my 93 Miata, not to mention the force with which it deploys since it's not a "depowered" airbag. Cindy sits close to the steering wheel since she's 5'4" and is in the danger zone - especially for the older, more powerful systems.

Can one still get an airbag removal authorization? I know they used to be available.

Firefox 2.x seems to work properly with the links. 1.5.x doesn't.

FYI, I saved the file to my desktop and then double-clicked it and it opened in Firefox 1.5 as a webpage, not html code.

Define original.

I have one from the mid-to-late 70's that's a metal badge with an extension on the bottom that allows it to be bolted to the front license plate.

Is that what you're after or are you looking for something earlier?
