Just wanted to thank Justin L., Cory B. and Jeff C. for stepping up to OD. It was a great day and the course was a really fun to drive. GREAT JOB GUYS!

I saw Bill Whitehead out in the morning and he helped tech; many thanks. I saw Gene Cooley out in the afternoon and we had several visitors who want to run with us in June. I have their contact info and I'll forward info to them.

Thanks to Donna and Keath for helping break down and taking the trailer home for storage again.

Out next event is Father's Day, June 17th ar RRC.

I am OD-ing along with a few other ladies to be determined.  It's the least we can do on your special day.  
If your like Keath and Jeff and don't have little 2 legged humans, it doesn't mean it's not your day to. Dogs, cats, ferrets, rats, etc., are children too.

Actually Donna and I think of Keath and Jeff, (respectfully) as our children. You know what they say; "I wanted to have a child, not marry one". Oh well, I like just having Jeff and our dog around!

Since there are 5 Thursdays in May I thought I might remind everyone that this Thursday is the club meeting.
What made me think about it was that I was talking with Gordon and said I'd "see him at the club meeting this week", and he said "is that this week?".

That has happened to me and I almost missed one last year. Five weeks in a month screw me up somtimes too.

REGISTRATION will open on July 1st
                       and close on July 20th

You can register by going to myautoevents.com or click on the registration button on our website.

COST:           $75.00
NOVICE is:    anyone with less then 15 autocrosses and 2
                      seasons or less.

Class will open with 25-30 slots on a first come first serve basis. The people who are registered for this school will be given notice before it opens to the public.

NOVICES ONLY!!!!!!!!!!! you must have autocrossed less than 2 seasons or have 0-10 autocrosses under your belt. This school will cover the following:

1 - AutoX Etiquette
2 - Walking the course to better your driving or better your  
      driving by walking the course properly.
3 - One hour of 1-on-1 with your instructor in the morning
     and one hour in the after noon.
4 - One hour on a dedicated 8 cone slalom course.
5 - Course work one hour
6 - 3 timed runs at the end of the day.  

Gates open at 7:00am :ouch:

Registration/Check-in is      7:30 - 8:00
Tech:                                   7:30 - 8:00
Drivers Meeting:                  8:00
Course Walk:                      8:15
1st group on course by:      9:00
etc., etc.,  I'll give you more details when you register.
School is over at 5:00pm.

Cost: $70.00 for the school
          $85.00 for the school and Sunday's event; ($10.00  
                      savings on the Sunday autocross for members
                      and non-members alike.) You will be
                      guarenteed a space and will not have to go in
                      and register.

REGISTRATION is done through ME (AUDIE) and this is how it goes.

1) E-mail me and tell me you want to take the school
2) List your experience and list your day and evening phone
     number
3) Your car: year, Make, Model and Color.
4) Preference of drink, diet soda, reg soda. (water will be
     provided as well).
5) If you want to run on Sunday tell me and give me 3
    possible numbers for your registration. Better to go in the
    4th heat because your instructors can ride with you if you  
    would like
5) Once I approve your registration, I will e-mail you or call  
     and then you will need to send me a check. Details about
     that later.

I am looking forward to the school as it is one of the highlights of the year for me. It always amazes me how much improvement we see and everyone leave Saturday afternoon tired, smiling and ready for Sunday!

Well it looks as if we have a full house for the first race of 2007.

Here are a few changes and new proceedures for Sunday.


1)    Gate 2 off of Laburnum Ave will be open from 8:00am until 10:00am and then it will be locked.
   
       REGISTRATION OPENS AT 8:30AM - NO SOONER

       REGISTRATION CLOSES AT 10:00 AM - NO LATER

2)     You will come and go from RRC by the main gate for the rest of the day. This will be true for all races this year.

3)    Waivers: you will sign at gate two, receive your wrist band and that is the you will have to sign.

4)    PLease make sure all family and friends sign in at timing trailer or reg desk after that.

5)    Please bring a check to pay for your membership and perm numbers if you have not already!!!!!!!!! You can pay that to me at registration and then you will be charged the member rate of $25.00, not $30.00

6)    There ARE NO TIMING CARDS for this event because we are trying out a new system. HOWEVER................................you will be responsible for making sure your car is teched!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cool:

7)   TECH INSPECTION: with no time cards, you will tech your car just like last year. The tech inspectore will be in the pits wearing the same bright yellow tag that says "TECH INSPECTOR". Brillant isn't it. :ouch:

 You will be responsible for declaring your class and having that and your number displayed on your car for Inspection. Buy a roll of blue painters tape and keep it in the car for the year. Then you always have it to make numbers and letters.

9)    If you pass, the inspector will put a sticker on the drivers side in the upper most corner of the windshield. If your class changed after inspection, you must come to me at reg. and let me know. If not someone in your class could protest and we don't want that!!!

10)    If you come to grid without an inspection sticker on your car, you will be asked to pull out of grid and we will try and find an inspector who is free to look at your car.

11)    Pit will be in the same areas as last year.

12)    Restrooms and concessions will be open in the main exhibition hall behind us for this race. Then the restrooms closest to us will be open from April on.

13)    Please check back on the forum no later than Saturday night for any last minute items.

Well, it looks as if we have a full house for the first race of 2007; I know I can't wait to get back in the little red "Weed Wacker". :bounce:

I !!!!!

1)     will be open from 8:00 am until 10:30am. At that time it will be closed and locked due to course design. This will be the same for the rest of the year. You will come and go throught the main gate for the rest of the day.

2)     you will sign in a gate 2 and . You will only sign once this year. :p
3)     at - NO SOONER

4)     AT - NO LATER

5)      Please bring a check for your membership and your perm number if you have not paid. That way you will get the members price of $25.00 and not the Non-Members price of $30.00.

You can pay this to me the same time you check in at registration. PLEASE HAVE IT READY!!!!! and it can be on the same check as your event fee. $25.00 Members, $5.00 per 1 Family member = $30.00 for the year. Perm numbers are $25.00 and have already been assigned.

5)     so you will be responsible for getting your car teched in the pits like last year. You must ready your car for the race and then put your hood up. and if you pass, he will put a small sticker on the upper most part of your wind shield on the drivers side.

If you do not have this when you come to grid, you will be unable to run until we can find and inspector to look at your car; provided they are not all on the course or working.

7)   The Course will have already been checked out by members of the safety committee for safety (duh!) :ouch: as well as for any major problems as in turns that are too sharp, etc.

    Pits will be in the same areas as before.

9)      Human pit facilities (restrooms) will be in the main exhibition hall behind us until the next race.

10)     Concessions are also open on Sunday in the same building and you can get to them with your wrist band on.

This is VMSC a club with many wonderful volunteers and I am looking for a few of you to step up and help. I really don't mind helping with the races, but I cannot spend 4 hours every Sat. and all day Sunday for every race this year.

The April 15th race is being OD'ed by Jeff Chenery and Justin Lohlein and I will CO-OD. But looking into the future I will need help.

2. Arrange to have the trailer delivered to the site and taken back after the event is complete
3. Enlist co-od’s and other help as needed
4. Set-up workers stations
5. Organize and hold a drivers meeting and safety lecture
6. Preside over the event during the day to ensure safety and comp rules are followed with help from safety comm.
7. Clean up the site ensuring all items are neatly put back in the trailer and trash is collected
8. Review and submit the results to the webmaster of the event within 72 hours of it’s completion
9. Write and submit one article to the checkpoints editor about the event. I can possible be talked into doing that.
10. Plus any items that may need to be taken care of during the day

HAPPY NEW YEAR from the Board of Officers. We hope everyone had a great holiday season and look forward to a great year in 2007

will be held at located at 4245 Carolina Ave. off of Laburnum next to the Richmond Raceway Complex. 228-0188.

Official Club Meeting will begin at 8:00 pm, same time as always. You will be on your own for dinner and if you come early you be able to fit in a race before the meeting.

We will have lap racing after the meeting at a reduced rate of $17.00 per session (15 laps or 8 min.) and you can get helmets and neckwear there. If you do not want to race you can watch from the side of the track which is INDOORS as most of you know. They have drink and snack machines as well.

Please let me know if you are attending by e-mailing me at autocross57@comcast.net so I can be sure we have enough room and a good idea of the number of drivers and non- drivers.

MARCH neeting will be back at LA Siesta with dinner from 6:30 - 8:00pm and meeting at 8:00pm.

Sorry for all of the questions but can you explain how you can stay on time at the check points. I was looking at the sample directions on the ODR website and had a couple of questions:

Instruction 14: average speed of 30 MPH for 36 seconds then change average speed to 45 MPH or

Instruction 24: average speed of 30 MPH, for 1 min and 12 seconds.

Since you are a navigator how would you ensure?? Can you explain (without math/calculations) what you would have to do to ensure that you are on time for each of these legs? And ultimately on-time for a checkpoint. I do unerstand that you will use two stop watches but they do not take acceleration and deceleration into account.

The reason I ask is that it takes time for a car to get to that average speed on the front end of the 36 seconds and the back end of that time when you transition to the new average speed. In order to be on time at the checkpoint you have to validate the time spent to achieve that average speed.

I understand now. It is not that there is no Math but it is not required. Unless you would like to be competitive.

A navagator better be good: Since in the post above you have stated the rules saying that "calculations must be done without any mechanical or electronic aid. (Mechanical aids include the Curta, the Stevens wheel, a sliderule, and an abacus all of which are prohibited. Electronic aid would include GPS and hand-held calculators - all prohibited.)." you had better be quick with math in your head and at the end of your pencil.
