I'll take 8!!!

Haha, got the email from Jeff and purchased quite a few, for me and friends.  Hope to do some racing with VMSC there!
27  Results / Autocross / Re: 05/06/2012 Results on: May 07, 2012, 03:30:55 PM
Super fast on the results!  (unlike my times haha)

Had a blast talking with some new people and checking out other people's cars.  I always like walking the paddock, it's like an auto-x and carshow in one!  Smiley
28  General / Classifieds / Re: WTB - Cheap Daily Driver (Dependable, but Ugly) <$1500 on: May 04, 2012, 08:38:45 AM
Scott,

Is this just a holdover until you get something else?  Will you be at the autox Sunday?  I may be buying an ACR Neon next week.  I've got enough other cars, that you'd be welcome to use it for the price of free, just give it back when you're done (even if that's a year from now).  We can talk more then, also wanted to ask you about the United behind Chelsea website.

Cheers,

Cliff

Feel free to share and use one for an avatar. All I ever ask for is credit if you post one somewhere. I upload half-resolution copies just because the files are so large, around 20 megs apiece. If you need a full resolution copy for something, just ask.

David

David,

That's awesome, thank you!  I will certainly give credit Smiley.  The medium size already up is perfect, just wanted to email a couple shots to some coworkers to try and get them to come out sometime.

Thanks!

Cliff

David

Thanks David! (and Ryan since I was in the third heat!)

Do you guys mind if I copy and share the photos of the MR2 with my friends?  I was also hoping I could upload one as my new forum avatar.  I wasn't sure what the usage policy was.  Can I buy you a beer for your trouble? Smiley
31  Results / Autocross / Re: 4/7/2012 RESULTS on: April 11, 2012, 04:38:28 PM
Eh, could have done better, but I least I was picking up a decent amount of time each run.  Still working on the car's setup.  Nevermind that I'm horribly overmatched in SM...just means I need to drive better Smiley.

Also, Mike with the 370Z, if you're on here, PM me.  I have the trackday info we were talking about!

EDIT:  Also also, to the guy with the red 91Z that I talked with a bit at lunchtime (sorry, I'm horrible with names), I meant what I said...shoot me a PM and I'll be happy to help you get involved at a future autox, getting signed up, classing the car, registering, etc., etc.  You could likely own F-stock if you're interested!

Ahhhh.....his comment about his times on Sunday was in jest. I guess I'm a little slow today. hopefully won't be Saturday Wink

Yep, sorry, I should have used the sarcasm font. Smiley

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!

I'm impressed with my performance on Sunday! Smiley

Very cool!

What's the plan for the car?  I forget what the term is for the windshield removed and just a roll-bar look, but this is what you need to do:

Odd.  May be worth checking it once or twice more over the next day or two.  I missed out on the original 3/4 or whatever date it says it closed on, but it was re-opened yesterday (that's when I bought in).  So they've apparently extended it at least once.
36  Events / Other Events / CMP track weekend on Groupon on: March 06, 2012, 03:05:59 PM
Saw on another car forum I'm on, and wanted to share the love.  Looks like a pretty good deal on the $/seat time ratio.

I see 4 great auto-x cars in your signature  Grin

You are 100% correct sir  Grin.  My rationale on the current cars:

Subaru - Daily Driver, 100% stock....I don't race the DD for work reliability purposes
Camaro - Down with a rod knock, driveable, but awaiting a full overhaul with LS1/T56 goodness
MR2 - RACECAR!  I do actually use this for track days, however not being built for an auto-x class, it goes directly to SM despite the modest modifications.
Z06 - Tracking this actually directly led to the MR2 purchase, when I realized I can completely write off an AW11 for the cost of one set of tires.  Anything salvageable after the wreck just puts me in the black  Wink.

In all reality I'll bring the MR2 out, run SM, and work on the loose nut behind the wheel.  I just like dreaming big!  Doesn't really come across forums well since I don't know everyone that well yet.

Weekend report!

Never heard back from the guy with the Miata.  Oh well, thankfully there's one or two more on CL.

Went to Annapolis on Sunday and saw/drove the TVR.  It's in OK shape, the current owner is a heck of a nice guy and definitely takes care of it, but like any 40 year old car it has its quirks.  This one needs some fiberglass work (stress cracks, chips, and normal stuff, but one of the hood latches has also broken out and needs to be re-glassed), several of the gauges are non-functional, I'd like to replace the exhaust, the doors are sagging, the throttle sticks a bit, the indicators don't work, etc., etc.  I'm currently pricing out the cost and difficulty of most of the fixes and am going to come to a decision.  In the meantime, several friends and coworkers know I'm on the hunt for cars for an autox car.  One sent me this:

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/cto/2879893196.html

WOW!  I have always wanted an FD, and more specifically a black/black R1 package.  May call on that one this weekend.  Granted I don't think its classed very well, but still!  Wink

39  General / Open Forum / Re: New to Richmond on: March 03, 2012, 02:01:38 PM
Going to look at the TVR tomorrow.
40  General / Open Forum / Re: New to Richmond on: March 03, 2012, 12:51:57 PM
Wow. You found a TVR. I am surprised.

David

You thought I was joking about that TVR marque trophy  Cheesy

41  General / Open Forum / Re: New to Richmond on: March 03, 2012, 09:55:50 AM
Interesting, definitely does have some nice bits on it.  Any idea where it's located?

I've been scouring craigslist the last few days, and found this:

http://norfolk.craigslist.org/cto/2858721988.html

Only about an hour away, and while it's stock, at least that means I don't have to worry about unknown previous mods throwing me out of the class I'd like to run in.

Then again, I just found this:

Congrats, Cliff. Dave and Aii remembered you from Honda and the Compound racetrack.

David

Ah, good  Smiley.  Hope those were fun times for them.  How did you guys do auto-xing the Camaro???

And The Compound (complete with dirtbike track in the backyard) for those of you that might have missed it:

43  General / Open Forum / Re: New to Richmond on: February 28, 2012, 06:14:13 PM
Ladies and Gentlemen,

As of 5:30PM this evening, my house (The Compound) in Ohio is SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let 4 years of repressed automotive shenanigans commence!  Grin

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the practice auto-x soon!  In the meantime, if anyone comes across any clean TVR 2500M's, 1.8L NA Miatas, or 89-91 325i/is's...let me know!

Just wanted to share the good news with everyone, I am hopelessly excited and relieved to be free of the stress and responsibility.  WOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

45  Events / Other Events / Re: Annual VMSC Dyno Day on: February 20, 2012, 05:53:24 PM
Will be in MN this weekend, so I'm out unfortunately.

Someone should bring a video camera so people can record their great success or woeful under-performance!
46  Events / Autocross / MyAutoEvents Registration on: February 20, 2012, 04:39:32 PM
Sorry for the fresh round of newbie questions.

I was trying to sign up for the practice autox at the end of March:

http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmEventDetail.Show?psevent_id=12917

and didn't seem to be able to register.  Is the event full?  Do I need to join VMSC on MyAutoEvents to register?  I didn't see a way to do that either, although I did find this:

http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmEntryList.Show?psevent_id=12709

Lastly, I seem to remember a request to preregister, and possibly prepay for events, and that paying the day of will be an extra $5.  Am I imagining that?  Didn't see anything on the site, so maybe that was at the January meeting.

Like I said, sorry for all the questions, but thanks in advance for your help!  Smiley
47  General / Open Forum / Re: Hello on: February 11, 2012, 05:57:04 PM
Welcome to a fellow newbie!  Smiley

I didn't realize there were any twisty roads in Richmond.
48  Events / Other Events / Re: Annual Banquet on: February 11, 2012, 05:55:25 PM
+1, Congrats to everyone who won trophies and/or prizes!  It was nice to meet everyone, hopefully after a couple of events I can remember names better.  I am still scheming to add a new marque trophy for next year...current contenders are the previously mentioned TVR, possibly Lancia, and the dark horse........Ferrari  Wink

I played Forza in my dress clothes when I got home...I felt simultaneously classy and lazy.  It was nice.
49  Events / Other Events / Re: Annual VMSC Dyno Day on: February 11, 2012, 05:50:59 PM
I will be out of town that weekend, so no-go for me.  Cry

Hopefully everyone posts their numbers for bragging rights!
50  General / Open Forum / Re: Garages, you say? on: February 04, 2012, 09:01:59 AM
I live in Church Hill, work over near VCU...so both are pretty central downtown area.

I'll add Mechanicsville to the list, thanks for keeping a lookout!

A friend at work suggested just buying a couple acres 20-30 minutes out and building a garage or finding a place with a barn already on it.  Sounded crazy, until I realized say 3-4 years of garage rental @ $500/month winds up being $18000-24000, which would just about cover a place like that!  So I may look into that as well.
