Hi to Chiketkd and everyone else who might be wondering about this same thing...

I am currently working with our two normal venues to secure dates for the up coming season. Unfortunately their individual site schedules are not quite finished so I am waiting for that to finish first.

I can say we will most likely have a similar number of events as last year if not more. AND I am working on two possible new sites to offer everyone even more course options. Both are of decent size also. 

As David mentioned, I am trying to have everything ironed out by our annual banquet on Feb. 12.

This weekends autocross scheduled for JULY 11 at RIR is canceled. 

Sorry people, but RIR had only just notified me this past friday before the holiday weekend. And nothing could be checked into / confirmed untill yesterday.

Something unforseen on RIR's end came up and there is nothing that can be done. I have been working with our contacts at RIR to come up with some sort of rescheduled date. Hopefully we will have a new date and plan by next weeks scheduled club meeting.

I will keep everyone updated as news comes in.

Once again, sorry for this late notice. Both RIR and I apologize for any inconvienance.

When are we going to see the final results? It has been two weeks now.

Come guys and girls, here is your chance to help to have your input on course design and get experience in running the BIG SHOW 

I just need 1-4 people (the more the better) to help me out on sat (MORNING) to help design the course and for sunday to help run and maintain things. It's going to be hot and sticky so the more people to help out the less it is to pile on each person.

As always, my main goals are to make sure everyone has fun, plenty of runs and for everything to go smoothly. So the more people to help out, the better it is for EVERYONE. 

Please email me and/or call me and/or show up at RIR tomorrow morning. I plan on being there by 9:00 and done as soon as possible to beat the heat.

Hello Ralf,

Yes, you are definitely going down the right road.

I have been involved with the club since I moved here several years ago. So I can speak from experience that VMSC welcomes all newcomers, being experienced or not.

I have autocrossed with several different clubs in many different states. And to me, they all have one main theme in common... they are all made up of people from many different ages, backgrounds, experience levels, and etc., but all seem to be able to welcome anyone and be able to talk shop and offer feedback if asked for.

I have always preached it is a great way for beginner drivers to learn car control and breaking in a safe environment. After all, I think it is much safer to learn by dodging a cone than a car that suddenly swerves out in front of you.

As far as a driver school. There are many instructional schools to choose from. I do not think you could go wrong in any choice. And the more the merrier. We actually have had many of our members go to Evolution Performance Driving School. In fact some of their instructors have raced with us before.

And our club puts on our own version of a drivers school once or twice a year. Our drivers school this season is currently scheduled for April 25th with an adjoining autocross the following day on April 26th.

You also mentioned you son at 16. Our club's past president was/is in the same situation. He actually had him out at our events well before he was able to drive. So he just helped us out at events. When he turned drivers age he then started to autocross with us.

In a nutshell, I think autocross is a great sport that is an economic and safe way for "Joe Racer" to get his five minutes of fame and glory in and compete in bragging rights with his/her buddies. All the while doing no damage to their vehicle other than a little tire scrapping and possible bumping a cone or two.

And I believe everyone you would encounter at one of our events would be more than happy to share ideas, answers, comments and etc with you.

OD and co-OD Responsibilities and Duties: are defined as but not limited to the following…

Usually needed to be first one in and last one out, i.e. be able to be there when gate opens (or before) to start setting up. And to be there until last person is out, to make sure everything is picked up, cleaned up, and everyone is off the lot.

Course Design (see Course Design at bottom)

Making sure Registration Information is downloaded from MyAutoEvents.com/setting up event in club computer

Arrangements for the club’s trailer. This could include anything from towing it to or from Virginia
Motor Sports Park up to Richmond Raceway, to as little as being able to move it around on the current
lot it resides at.

Make sure all timing units are fully charged.

Make sure all supplies are full, such as batteries, chalk, blue race tape, miscellaneous supplies, and etc.

Assign Worker Steward/Keep record of all participants and volunteer’s duties

Responsible for making sure race results are tabulated and posted within 48 hours of event (under
normal circumstances)

Course Design:
The lots we use can contain light poles, drainage grates, and misc. objects to design around. 
And as such, for safety concerns, the final course design needs to be reviewed by an experienced course designer. VMSC follows SCCA course safety guidelines as defined in the VMSC Speed Event Regulations and the SCCA National Solo Rule Book (section: Solo II Rules\Solo II Events). These guidelines outline the proper safety distances, and more, to ensure a safe and insured event.

Being an OD or co-OD at an event is a great way to learn more about the club and how events run. We welcome all interested people. If you have not done one before we do ask for you to be a co-OD with someone who has been an OD before. If you would like to be a co-OD but do not know of someone to be an OD with you, feel free to email me. I am sure I can find someone to OD with you.

There can be a lot more to being an OD and/or co-OD than some might think. For this reason I am also putting in this section an additional post describing the Responsibilities and Duties of a OD and co-OD. My list shows some of the key items that MUST be taken care of for an event. The OD/co-OD do not necessarily have to do everything themselves. But they do need to make sure somebody is getting these tasks done. There are quite a few things to do, but we have a lot of great people at VMSC who like to help out too.

So, feel free to volunteer.

Thank you for showing interest in our site. Newbie or not, never fear of posting on our site. We ( and the autocross community in general ) are mostly a friendly bunch. Since there is no "real money" to be made, it is all about the camaraderie that keeps people coming back.

As far as pointers, the best advice I can give you is... experience. Come on out this weekend to our event at Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwidie and give it a try. There you will see the broad spectrum of cars that compete, how and what they do to their cars, differences in driving styles, etc. etc.

If I had to give you any clear cut tips, all I can think of is...
    arrive early
    talk to an OD (person(s) setting up and in charge of the event) for any last minute questions to help
      you decide to register
    register
    clean your car out so that it is ready for tech
    walk the course as many times as you need to understand and know it. Don't be afraid to ask someone to walk with you to show you pointers. Everyone does it, newbie or not.

Results are mostly done. I need the registration information for cars 76 and 83. Also read my reply post on the "Results?" thread started by rgades.

As someone has already stated, it does take time to sort through a whole lot of "glitches, bad handwriting, etc."

But all is now MOSTLY well. That is to say I found to cars times WRITTEN down but not in the computer. I have times for cars 76 and 83, but no car info on them. Thus I can not put them into the computer. When I receive thier data this will obviously effect the results.

The results are posted in MYAUTOEVENTS minus the mentioned cars.
